Late to it but

If I was your girlfriend

It's really difficult choosing. I love little red corvette and let's go crazy. And kiss, the lyrics are brilliant.

If 1 artist, other than prince had written Kiss and little red corvette, for example they would be a brilliant songwriter.

But if you then add lets go crazy, when doves cry, it makes them complete brilliant. And I could go on

BouncyTrouncyFlouncyPouncy · 06/05/2016 23:14

My top 3 at the moment

Cream
The Beautiful Ones
Delirious

But it's constantly changing, there's so many!

Nikki I'm trying to have a bit of glamour in my life. I usually paint my toenails but never my fingernails but this week I've had toes and fingers done purple and I'm gonna try to keep it up. Also definitely gonna get the tattoo. And yes listening to more music which obviously I've been doing constantly for the past few weeks, and I feel like I could keep listening to Prince for ever. Eventually I'll get all his albums.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 06/05/2016 23:21

Top 3:

Controversy
Pop Life
Beautiful Ones

Destinysdaughter · 06/05/2016 23:33

I never lost the glamour...but could do with emulating a bit of his work ethic!Grin

Gosh so many posts and videos to catch up on and I've not been gone that long! Can't wait to read through it all but just had to tell you that I went to see purple rain. I didn't quite know what to expect as it wasn't at a cinema. It was at an art centre and hosted by a superfan. He spent an hour just talking about prince, his music, the history and telling stories and then played purple rain. There were about 80/90 people in the audience, all very civilised. Quite intimate. Shame everyone didn't get up dancing at the end but when it finished everyone was cheering. The film was captivating and exciting as always. Prince was stunning and amazing. I cried from purple rain at the end onwards just thinking I can't believe you are not here anymore. Others were crying (men and women).

Good thing is because the evening was so successful, the same guy (superfan) is going to do a few more prince nights to include prince`s concerts and films Smile.

Binders what a great evening!

Thinking about how to be more 'Prince' like in my life, he was definitely someone who wasn't afraid to take risks and was completely true to himself, I'd like to be more like that.

I think 'what would Prince do?' Shall be my new mantra! Smile

Just been folding sheets thinking about how to add more glamour to my life! That about sums it up really Smile

MaybeImJustTooDemanding · 07/05/2016 00:09

binders that sounds fab! I made DH watch Purple Rain on DVD last weekend, but it would be great to go to a proper event (I've got my eye on a couple of outdoor cinema events coming up though).

I've been trying to think of 3 songs but it's really hard...When Doves Cry is always my number one, but after that it changes day by day. Maybe Cream and The Beautiful Ones today.

As for going forward...more music, definitely. Also more self-belief, Prince seemed to have so much belief in who he was and what he was doing. And of course more purple Smile

darlingnikki · 07/05/2016 00:10

More creativity, more glamour, more purple!

commutergirl37 · 07/05/2016 00:11

Destiny I love the WWPD? idea! Although a few too many scenarios in my life where the answer would probably be, 'throw some shade and walk off with a sassy strut!' Grin
I'm sure we could all benefit from some Prince-inspired fabulousness in our lives.

Destinysdaughter · 07/05/2016 00:33

Wow this is a house Prince used to own in Toronto. Very nice!

Hmmm according to prince.org, his music is already being licensed! A song is going to be used in Grey's Anatomy. So not what he would have wanted.[Angry

Just read this and I do agree with much of it and wondered what other pp thought?
( from prince.org )

"In the wake of Prince's passing, something has dawned on me: Prince and his offbeat behavior with the caretaking of his music really cost him an opportunity to be a very special and extremely beloved entertainer.
.
OK, I have no problem with Prince and his desire for privacy. Rare interviews with media, shut in at his home, few appearances outside of gigs...that's his choice and his lifestyle. More power to him. But it was his behavior regarding his music and its accessibility to the people that really seems like such a bad decision now.
.
The outpouring of emotion after his death was really stunning. His death cut through all segments of our society. From the higher-ups to the guy in the slums; from celeb to average Joe; black, white, Puerto Rican, straight or gay... Prince reached us all. And all seemed to express great sadnes upon his passing. Newscasters all over TV wearing purple the next day, musical tributes from every artist performing, a statement from The President of The United States, a porno site named Pornhub replaced the P in its name with prince! My God, the top of the Empire State Building was lit purple upon his passing! Great sadness and love was expressed worldwide. The kind of reaction a real Prince or Princess (Diana) would get.
.
Now here's where Prince blew it for all those years. Why release music only via download, or joining his club, or only overseas? I don't care that some of those records were jazz instrumentals -- he's an artist and all artists may craft what they please. But to limit the ability of people to obtain that music was flat out wrong. Look at all the Prince fans there truly are. These past two weeks have shown all those PURPLE RAIN fans were still out there loving Prince and his music. But he releases an album that can only be obtained in the newspapers of Europe. WTF? Oh, and if you want his new album "Chocolate Invasion"...go to his website, pay a one hundred dollar yearly fee, and then you can get his music. Is it any wonder that fans did not hear his music? One of his records once sold 14 million copies! The fan base was clearly there, yet he chose not to give them a fair chance at hearing his music.
.
But the real problem was his Stalin-like paranoia over youtube. Go there now and read the comments on all the Prince videos. Nothing but love, love, love and tons of "I haven't seen this in twenty years! Oh, I missed this so much!" Prince kept the joy of his music from fans who loved his music. Heck, I'm a Prince fanatic and I haven't seen that "Batdance" video in decades. That should never have been the case. Never. He also kept that great music from young people who use youtube to discover music. Radio doesn't break artists anymore...and radio sure wasn't playing any Prince music the past 20 years. youtube is radio nowadays. Prince essentially took himself off the air! He hurt the people and he hurt himself. Prince's battle with youtube showed that he was extremely selfish and shortsighted.
.
Prince was great, one of America's greatest artists in any artistic field...but he could have been so much more had he made his music available for the people to hear. Clearly he was beloved. Why didn't he see that? Why didn't he see that were weren't trying to rip him off...we just wanted to hear the music he made which is the music millions and millions and millions loved?"

Love the list of dirty songs Redcorvette, there's loads I haven't heard and I'm really keen to hear them all now!
Another favourite of mine today is I Feel For You, particularly love the intro!

mummymafia · 07/05/2016 07:35

I'm listening to The Most Beautiful Girl in the World with tears pouring down my face whilst cleaning my ds2s skid marks from the loo. How's that for glamour? I'm going to paint my nails purple once the loo is clean! I'm loving WWPD?

poodlefromcatan · 07/05/2016 08:22

Yes Destiny I don't think he made the transition after the trouble with Warner. It took me a long time to understand that I could listen to artists for free on youtube. It always felt wrong - almost illegal. The thing is I have always gone on to buy the albums after hearing them on youtube.

It may also be the reason why we have lost touch with Prince - his music just wasn't as accessible in the modern world.

He I agree about Youtube, it's a great way of finding out about new artists. A few years ago I heard a song on the radio by Friendly Fires called ' Hurting', it was kinda funky so I checked out their videos on YouTube, loved them and went out and bought their CD and saw them live! Unless you were a truly dedicated Prince fan, you weren't able to do this.Made me v sad when pp on Twitter were saying who's Prince? His stubbornness and principles were a double edged sword in the end.

darlingnikki Prince was always dressed! He never allowed his people or him to wear trainers or jeans. Perhaps we could all once a week be more Prince and get dressed properly!

Wear purple

Destinysdaughter · 07/05/2016 14:41

Prince currently has 16 albums in the American charts, amazing!

Only 4 in the UK tho, sadly.Sad

I saw Purple Rain on vinyl in Tesco last night. I'm pretty sure my original copy got lost/thrown in a house move at some point. I have it on CD now but somehow the cover photo doesn't have quite the same impact!
