Just a random thought, i think Prince must have been a silent movie fan. That video upthread was in the format of a silent movie, he mentions Valentino in Manic Monday. Wendy or Lisa referred to him as being like Valentino in an interview too, and Miles Davis said he was like Charlie Chaplin. I think you might be able to see it in some of his stagecraft, especially the way he used those beautiful eyes to communicate so much.

darlingnikki · 03/05/2016 09:07

Not to mention Under the Cherry Moon. Might explain why he is so gif-worthy too.

Destinysdaughter · 03/05/2016 09:22

Nikki I agree! 😄

Nikki it's hard to know where to begin with new stuff, I am going to get Art Official Age on iTunes I think but I am so tempted to buy a load of vinyl right now but I don't have a record player so I think that is something I'm going to have to research a bit!

ComputerBlue · 03/05/2016 12:19

Oh and I agree about the silent movies I think you can def see a big influence there

Q magazine is out with 21 pages on Prince! Spending my lunch hour having a flick through. Sigh. Had a little giggle at a reference to him as 'the Purle Perv' - took me right back to my Smash Hits days! 💜 Bouncy, I love the description of your cinema trip. I'm off to see Purple Rain later in the week and now feeling a bit more reassured that I won't be the only middle-aged woman there on her own! Worried I may be a blubbering mess by the end of it though. 😢

EachandEveryone · 03/05/2016 16:34

I knew all my Q collection from the90's would come get read again Sad

BouncyTrouncyFlouncyPouncy · 03/05/2016 16:56

Destinys I love those songs, it's amazing how many tunes he had in him and all so different. I agree about the silent movie influence too, and he had such big beautiful expressive eyes, he says it all with just a look just like the big silent movie stars.
Commuter girl i'll be getting Q now to add to my collection. I thought I might be a blubbering mess by the end of the film too! I did cry at most of the songs, especially The Beautiful Ones, that always gets me. I love the way he sings 'Dont make me waste my time, Don't make me lose my mind'...so beautiful. I did cry at Purple Rain too but the credits were long enough for me to pull myself together and not look a complete wreck when the lights came on.

moosemama · 03/05/2016 17:28

Just watched the Oprah interview he did with Mayte after the sad loss of their baby. Painful to watch once you know what happened. The sadness in his face/eyes is palpable. Sad

Wish I could go to the Electric this Thursday, but there's no way unfortunately. Sad

Destinysdaughter · 03/05/2016 17:30

Bouncy yes there's probably loads more too! I've been reading the prince.org forums quite a bit recently and there's some hardcore fans on there! They were discussing which unreleased tracks they'd like to see released so I just searched some of the titles and there they were!

I'm undecided as to whether or not to go see Purple Rain at the cinema tomorrow. I'll be going on my own and I think it will just make me sad! 😪

Meant to say I searched for the songs on YouTube. Poor Prince must be turning in his grave at all the stuff on there now as he tried so hard to control it all...

Moose Sad I think Prince and Mayte were true soulmates.

poodlefromcatan · 03/05/2016 19:30

I wish i could go with you Destinys.Sad I have bought the Dvd instead. I have been playing the album most days. I still can't believe how sublime each track is on that album and how most of them blend together seamlessly. Also loving Controversy another unbeatable track.

ComputerBlue · 03/05/2016 19:37

Destiny am downloading 17 days on iTunes!

moosemama · 03/05/2016 19:47

Computer I think you're right. So sad their marriage didn't last. Can't help wondering if he'd still be here if it had. Sad

I remember listening to 17 days on repeat when I was a teenager. I'd forgotten all about it until I watched that link.

ComputerBlue · 03/05/2016 20:15

I agree moose, really sad it didn't work out for them, such a heartbreaking situation.

darlingnikki · 03/05/2016 20:44

Bouncy, The Beautiful Ones has to be my all time favourite, the video is just breathtaking! (OMG the pointing bit!)
And so sad about him and Mayte, she has said subsequently that she was spoiled for life after being with him so young. Sad

darlingnikki · 03/05/2016 20:45

I mean no other men could compare!

lazarusb · 03/05/2016 20:46

Destinys He was more of a FWB than an ex. Unlikely I will go and see the band though as him and dh aren't really comfortable in each other's presence (long story!). Shame really, I bet he's missing Prince as much as I am.

I agree re the silent films. Prince was so expressive in such a clever, understated way. He was funny too.

The loss of their baby must have been so painful. A lot of relationships struggle to get through things like that long term. Let's hope they will all be reunited one day.

Destinysdaughter · 03/05/2016 20:50

Just saw this on prince.org.Guess it's more an American thing, but still like it as a way to honour him." It's been 17 hours and 15 days. "

I'd been thinking about wearing something purple that day! It's still so sad Sad

Binders1 · 03/05/2016 21:35

I'm going to see purple rain on Friday in leeds and they`re showing something for an hour before on the history of prince. I hope the audience get involved too.

Watching all the interviews makes me feel like I know him even more and love him even more. For someone who liked to be in control of his life, I am still surprised he made no will or instructions for what he wanted to happen to his estate, his music and the music in the vault.

darlingnikki · 03/05/2016 21:56

I'm sure part of the shock is all the questions - why was he still touring if he was so unwell? why was no-one with him after the incident on the plane? why didn't he leave a will when he was so concerned about ownership of his work?

I hate to think about the last few months he had Sad
