Lyrics you love - a guessing game

Anyone fancy a game? Post some lyrics you love/resonate say why you love them and other posters guess what song they're from.

Mine is "it was cold and it rained and I felt like an actor"

Whenever it's cold and rainy (I live in the North, this is often) and I'm walking down the street I often feel like I'm in a film and it makes me think of this lyric.

Elvis Costello 'Alison'! Smile

ImperialBlether · 15/11/2015 19:21

Grin Love those lyrics.

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 19:41

Grin Me too, Elvis Costello is amazing!

"Sometimes
It tries to kid me that it's just a teddy bear
Or even somehow managed
To vanish in the air
And that is when I must beware ..."

I had to pick a part of the song without the title in!

ppandj · 15/11/2015 19:49

I can hardly keep up with you lot but am enjoying this thread. You're directing me back to songs I haven't listened to for yonks Smile.

ImperialBlether · 15/11/2015 20:14

I remember seeing Elvis Costello at the Royal Court in Liverpool and he sang:

Somehow I found myself down at the dockside
Thinking of the old days of Liverpool and Rotherhithe
The transparent people who live on the other side
Living a life that is almost like suicide

I was living on the other side of Liverpool (New Brighton) at the time and felt exactly like that!

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 20:20

ppandj I'm so glad you like the thread, I'm loving this too!! Definitely my favourite on here by far! Grin

ImperialBlether Elvis Costello 'New Amsterdam'!! Grin I love the story too!!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 20:25

Love this thread. Especially the Manics contributions.Grin

Am thinking. ...

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 20:26

How about:

Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 20:30

Or:

I'll wear a new dress, wash my clothes
I'll wear the earrings that you chose
If the man you've grown to be
Is more Morrison than Morrisey
I'll tell you straight as we undress
That things got better when you left

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 20:35

Don't overexcite me, Manics are one of my all-time favourite bands, haha!! Grin I've now seen them live 19 times, love them so much!!!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 20:41

Mine too. Can you tell from the name.Grin

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 20:42

The first one is Regina Spektor 'Samson' and the second is Dubstar 'The Day I See You Again'!!! Love the choices!!! My goodness, people with decent music taste ... where have you been all my life?! Grin

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 20:47

Haha, yes, I love it!!! Smile

"Listen to Luke sermon six
"And if one of the occupation troops forces you to carry his
Pack one kilometer carry it two"".

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 20:53

Manics - crucifix kiss!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 21:02

We should both go to bed
Til we make each other sore!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 21:06

Nice obscure one:
I want to marry a personality
Someone who looks just like Koo Stark

From my angsty teen years.

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 21:54

Yes to Crucifix Kiss! Smile

The first one is the wonderful and underrated Sleeper 'Delicious' and the second is the even more criminally underrated and fantastic Whipping Boy 'Personality'!!!! Love it!!!

"I think you ought to know
I think we've lost control dear
Whatever turned you on
You put it up your nose dear".

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 15/11/2015 21:59

Damn. Thought I had you with the last one!

Echobelly.

Um. Is it Insomniac?

Will think of some more tomorrow. Smile

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 22:22

Haha, no, never on the obscure indie music I'm afraid!! I loved that band, Heartworm is an amazing album!!! Grin Ok, I will think of more too ... need more obscure indie songs. Hmm I will leave you with this one for tonight ...

"In the future all this will be yours
So do what you want
You'll be dead and gone before you find out how it works
Hey kids, Rock and Roll is here
So scream all you want
It's a naked pagan glory
Celebrate the new".

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 22:26

Whoops and yes, it was Echobelly 'Insomniac' by the way! Smile

Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 23:00

Loving these song choices tonight. Grin

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 23:32

Thanks Mindy! I think I left you one earlier but it seems to have got lost with the other great tunes, haha! Grin God, I LOVE this thread!!!

Lyrics you love - a guessing game
Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 23:43

Was it...Dr. Feel good. Milk & Alcohol?

Probs most popular thread on here at the moment. I love these tunes!

Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 23:46

Thought I'd throw this one into the mix!
The seven seas, have we learned
Or are we sailing on a ship of fools
I always thought I'd have a full tank to go
(But not tonight, you're running low)

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 23:56

Yes, it was!! Smile The link was that Roger Daltrey made the album 'Going Back Home' with Wilko Johnson of Dr Feelgood! Grin

This is a really popular thread! I'm so glad, it is the best one on here!

That is Brandon Flowers 'Can't Deny My Love' Smile

"Pure, this must be, it has to be
Pure, let's make this pure
(Do you mean it?)
Yes I do
(Then let's sing it)

Certainly, but first bare your hearts
And cleanse your souls ..."
