Lyrics you love - a guessing game

Anyone fancy a game? Post some lyrics you love/resonate say why you love them and other posters guess what song they're from.

Mine is "it was cold and it rained and I felt like an actor"

Whenever it's cold and rainy (I live in the North, this is often) and I'm walking down the street I often feel like I'm in a film and it makes me think of this lyric.

Here's mine...

And all the times I came to you
But never ever lied
Show me that phone in your pocket, girl
Show me that phone in your pocket

thefutureofpolitics · 13/11/2015 08:24

Yes!!! And yours is Maroon 5 'In Your Pocket' Smile

"How dare you assume I want to parlez-vous with you?
You Gretchen Franklin nosey matron thing".

Mindysgotswag · 13/11/2015 20:05

The Fall - Telephone Thing?

Mindysgotswag · 13/11/2015 20:09

Suck on your lies 'til your eyes turn red
What did you say
Willing to drown in a tidal wave
Take me away

What's this one then, Future? Grin

SurferJet · 13/11/2015 20:11

'The only heaven I'll be sent to, is when I'm alone with you'

ppandj · 13/11/2015 20:16

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 13/11/2015 21:04

Showing my age. The first record I bought!

Wish I never had known you better
Wish I knew you before I met her gee
How good it would be for me
Should have told you that I can't linger
There's a wedding ring on my finger...,

Mindysgotswag · 14/11/2015 00:16

Bye bye baby. Bay City Rollers

thefutureofpolitics · 14/11/2015 18:13

Yes Mindysgotswag! And yours is Breaking Benjamin 'Sugarcoat'.

"A sense of duty was my one intention
And an ugly beauty was my own invention
Pride, a proud refusal,
And I refuse to need your approval".

Tagetes · 14/11/2015 18:34

Oh no you'll never get me up in one of these again.
Cos what goes up must come down.

Tagetes · 14/11/2015 18:50

Forgot the reason. Because all of this band's lyrics are brilliant and they remind me of sitting in a mate's sister's freezing cold bedroom listening to them on her record player

thefutureofpolitics · 14/11/2015 19:25

10cc 'Clockwork Creep'!! Tune!! You might like this: My Mum used to go out with Ric Rothwell, drummer of The Mindbenders, Eric Stewart's first band!! Her first boyfriend was Eden Kane ... you might have to look him up! Wink

"Well, I led an evil life, so they say
But I'll out run the Devil on judgement day, I said ..."

Mindysgotswag · 14/11/2015 20:35

Gene Vincent. Race with the Devil.

ppandj · 14/11/2015 21:13

"I say the right things but act the wrong way,
I like it right here but I cannot stay,
I watch the TV, forget what I'm told
Well I am too young and they are too old"

Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 12:19

One of my fave bands. The Strokes - Hard to Explain. Grin

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 16:58

Yes, Mindysgotswag!!! Love Gene Vincent, that is my favourite song by him! Grin And love The Strokes choice ppandj, tune! Grin

"Skinny white sailor, the chances were slender
The beauties were brief
Shall I mourn you decline with some Thunderbird wine
and a black handkerchief?
I miss your sad Virginia whisper
I miss the voice that called my heart".

Lyrics you love - a guessing game
Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 17:02

Haha! Sweet Gene Vincent. Ian Dury & the Blockheads.

Very clever!Smile

Mindysgotswag · 15/11/2015 17:06

Here you go...

Didn't know that I was dreaming
Sunny days come out of midnight
In the darkness of the evening Running softly from the light

What's the connection?Hmm

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 18:42

Haha, thank you! And yes, right!! Grin And yours is Roger Daltrey 'Walking in My Sleep'!! Grin Haha, Ian Dury was in the video for the song! He also sang backing vocals on the album the song was from, 'Parting Should Be Painless'! Smile Hhhmm, another connection ... where to go from here ...

"Stay put I wanna go
Hard work, bad show
More liquor, it don't help
He's gonna die, it breaks my heart".

PavlovtheCat · 15/11/2015 18:51

"And I've been waking in the morning just like every other day
And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain
And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away.
But you're not lying there any longer and I know that that's my fault
So I've been pounding on the floor and I've been crawling up the walls
And I've been dipping in my darkness for some serotonin boosters,
Cider and some kind of smelling salts"

PavlovtheCat · 15/11/2015 18:52

Sorry, meant to say, this is a poignant song for my about a period in my life.

As are many others, I could do this all night!

PavlovtheCat · 15/11/2015 18:54

"Some mornings I pray for evening,
For the day to be done.
Some summer days I hide away
And wait for rain to come.
It turns out hell will not be found
Within the fires below,
But in making do and muddling through
When you've nowhere else to go"

Makes me cry when I listen to this at particular times of the day or week.

thefutureofpolitics · 15/11/2015 19:06

PavlovtheCat Frank Turner 'Recovery' and 'The Way I Tend to Be'. Love the choices!! Smile

How about?

"There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock news
And no pictures of hairy armed women liberationists
And Jackie Onassis blowing her nose
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom Jones
Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink or the Rare Earth ..."

ImperialBlether · 15/11/2015 19:15

Oh it's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl
And from the way you look I understand you are not impressed
But I heard you let that little friend of mine
Take off your party dress
