Lyrics you love - a guessing game

MrsGuyGarvey · 11/02/2015 21:03

Anyone fancy a game? Post some lyrics you love/resonate say why you love them and other posters guess what song they're from.

Mine is "it was cold and it rained and I felt like an actor"

Whenever it's cold and rainy (I live in the North, this is often) and I'm walking down the street I often feel like I'm in a film and it makes me think of this lyric.

Sorry...forgot to put Turin Brakes. Fishing for a dream.

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 04:02

Yes!!! Smile Buffalo Tom 'Sodajerk'!

"Ice, your only rivers run cold.
These city lights, they shine as silver and gold.
Dug from the night, your eyes as black as coal".

Packergator · 09/11/2015 04:23

Oooh! Unforgettable Fire - U2

"There's no heart you can't melt with a certain little smile,
No challenge should be faced without a little charm and a lot of style."

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 05:17

Yes indeed!!!!!! Grin The Bluetones 'Bluetonic'!!!! Love the choice!!!!

"And if you think I'm gonna to come to you
Then go back to bed and take my friends there too
In a sense we're exactly the same
Cause we're both so different in every way
In a sense we're exactly the same
We're both so different in every way, in every way".

Packergator · 09/11/2015 09:09

Shit, I recognise that...is it Marion? It's definitely from the indie era!

Packergator · 09/11/2015 09:15

(I miss the proper indie era...Sad)

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 10:47

It is indeed Marion so kudos for knowing that and I will give you that one ... it is 'Sleep'. I miss proper indie too Sad it is what I grew up and still my favourite era of music ever!

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 10:52

This is easier but I love this song ...

"She said there's ants in the carpet
Dirty little monsters
Eating all the morsels
Picking up the rubbish
Give her effervescence
She needs a little sparkle
Good morning TV
You're looking so healthy".

Packergator · 09/11/2015 16:00

Blur! "End of a Century"!

Let's continue the indie love-in...

"And there's no perfume I can buy to make me smell like myself,
So I put on perfume to make me smell like someone else..."

(I have taken a bit of a liberty with the lyrics there as they do mention the song title when quoted in full!)

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 17:19

Yes, right!!! I'm loving the indie love-in!!! Smile Longpigs 'She Said'!!!! Oh my goodness, somebody else who knows Longpigs!!! I love them so much!!! I saw them live supporting Cast and they blew Cast off the stage, they were so good! 'The Sun is Often Out' is one of my all time favourite albums! Grin

"My kith and kin, oh I have sinned
I didn't hear the siren or see him givin' in
My kith and kin, oh I have sinned again
And he said ..."

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 17:20

Mindysgotswag · 09/11/2015 20:50

Gene. London, can you wait?

Mindysgotswag · 09/11/2015 20:55

Following the Indie theme...

And I know that it won't get to me at all
Until I go there
And then it hits me clear and sharp
The streets are empty, there's no one 'round

20thcenturyschizoidwoman · 09/11/2015 20:55

I never thought it would happen with me and a girl from Clapham

The best opening line ever...

orlakielyimnot · 09/11/2015 20:58

Well I was standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona, such a fine sight to see, it's a girl my Lord in a flat bed Ford slowing down to take a look at me...

20thcenturyschizoidwoman · 09/11/2015 20:58

Snow is a good thing filled with the love of all that lie so deep

Makes me cry every time I hear that line - makes me think of my grandparents

IguanaTail · 09/11/2015 20:58

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat

sidneypie · 09/11/2015 21:37

'Illness is not an indulgence which you should pay for
Nor is it a crime for which you should be punished
For this conviction I would endanger my health

"Shut it (oi!), just consume, crave riches and lust for fame"
No you won't see us participating in that game
Keep your twisted take on success
'Cos all I really want is what's beating in your chest'

Hobbes8 · 09/11/2015 22:05

Squeeze - up the junction

Hobbes8 · 09/11/2015 22:10

I'm surprised at how hot honey coloured and hungry she looks
And I have to turn away to keep from busting
Oh it feels that good

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 23:28

thefutureofpolitics · 09/11/2015 23:32

"Standing at the bus stop with my shopping
In my hands when I'm overhearing elder
Ladies as the rumours start to fly you can
Hear them in the school yard scrap yard
Chip shop phone box in the pool hall at
The shoe stall every corner turned around"

Packergator · 10/11/2015 04:26

Stereophonics! 'A Thousand Trees'! Spent my uni years in Cardiff in the 90s. Used to see the 'phonics in pubs around town all the time! Saw Cerys Matthews get kicked out of a club once.

Here's one for you then...

"First time, I did it for the hell of it
Stuck it on the back of my tongue
And then swallowed it.
Second time, things were getting easier,
Blow me down, this wind is getting breezier." Grin

thefutureofpolitics · 10/11/2015 10:13

Yay!!! Grin That is so cool, I love them! I've seen them live a few times too, they are always brilliant! I really like the new album too. Haha, Cerys is awesome!!! I live in North Wales Grin completely different to South Wales but we have had a few interesting bands.

Yesssss, straight away because they are one of my all time favourite bands ... Super Furry Animals 'Something 4 the Weekend'!!! Grin

"The world on your shoulders
The love of your mother
The fear of the future
The best years behind you
The world is getting older
The times they fall behind you
The need it still grows stronger
The best years never found you". Grin
