This is the feedback thread for the 120 Mumsnet users who have a child aged 3 months to 6 years who suffers with dry, rough skin or nappy rash and have been testing La Roche-Posay Circaplast Balm B5. Cicaplast Balm B5 is a multi-purpose repairing balm that soothes, restores and protects babys’ delicate skin.

Selected testers were sent 2 x 40ml tubes of Cicaplast Balm and were asked to use it with their child for dry, rough skin flare-ups or for treating nappy rash for a month.

Really nice, not greasy and rubbed in well but fave good coverage.

Yes. My older son had dry itchy skin which he is no longer complaining about. I used it on my younger sons face that has a patch that flairs up and although it didn't get worse which it often does in cold weather it didn't clear up all together.

It immediately felt less dry and looked healthier within days.

He always has sore stratch marks which have gone. I'm not sure if this is because it has helped healing or stopped the itching.

Yes (but I would probably have to look up the name!) I would recommend it in the case of severe dry skin problems, particularly if other things don't work. I wouldn't just for lower level problems because I think the price makes it something to try if cheaper brands haven't worked.

A thick, nice cream that spreads and sits nicely on the skin

Yes I think it has. She has a patch of dry skin under her knee which has really improved, and whilst using the cream she rarely has a nappy rash.

Within a few uses! Mild nappy rash immediately calms down after one application.

Yes, her knee patch seems to calm down really well. We don’t use creams on her every day and so if it’s flared up again we use it and it calms down within a couple of goes.

Yes I would as a more ‘luxury’(?) nappy cream! Especially if they have dry skin that other creams aren’t helping.

It had a really lovely texture and absorbed well.

Yes, the skin is visibly clearer. My eldest son has dry skin on his arms and back and was actually asking for me to apply it so it must have made a difference.

Yes. Great for his dry skin and wind burn. I didn’t think it was better than his usual nappy cream but it was fine for that purpose too.

Lovely texture: thick, nice smell, not stainy or runny. easy to apply and a little goes a long way.

Yes, though recently I stopped as he’s developed a spotty rather than rashy around his chin. Rash cleared up nicely though despite constant dribble still!

Couple of days of regular use - we were previously using variety of moisturisers, some medicated. Gone back to that just now with the spots developing

Yes, he hasn’t needed cream every day like before so is making an improvement gradually to the overall healing process not just appearance . Has stopped asking for cream which is a good sign to show it’s not sore.

Yes with specific conditions. Found it soothing on myself too (dry skin) - medications are free to children but harsh. This is more expensive but represents good value I believe and did work

3. My son is disabled. Not a lot works when he gets sore but we noticed after 2 applications this was working.
4. This definitely sped up the skins healing process.
5. I would definitely recommend this product as it worked fast, and was easy to apply. Minimal fuss from my child.

I’m a big fan of La Roche Posay skincare and use loads of their products on myself, and always buy their sun cream for the whole family. However this cream did absolutely nothing for my toddler’s dry skin so I was quite surprised and disappointed.

no it actually hasn’t. He’s got dribble/food rash and dry skin on his face and round his mouth and despite twice daily applications there was no improvement whatsoever. I tried it for a week. I then used Vaseline and it cleared up in 2 days

Went on well. It is a bit thick, but needs to be. Isn't greasy.

Good as a moisturiser, didn't apply to very red sore nappy rash as metanium works great and other creams have stung in the past, so not risking it

No, it is expensive as a nappy rash cream and would need to be used as a preventative, rather than applied when already sore. That would cost a lot more.

Depends on peoples budgets I'm probably going to stick to Aveeno and sudocrem to be honest as these are more effective and cheaper

The texture was thick, but went on smoothly. A little went a long way and it smoothed over the skin really well.

I used it on my psoriasis and felt instant relief. I could see an improvement in my child the next day.

I have already bought a tube for my sister to use. It's is a good price as a tube lasts a long time and I found it to be non greasy. It also gave instant soothing relief.

Yes, DS has had a rash for several months which GPs and pharmacists haven't been able to help with. It hasn't completely cured it yet but it has eased it significantly. I also broke out in lots of spots from wearing face masks and it really helped.

It works quickly, smells lovely, feels luxurious and is reasonably priced.

1. texture a bit thick but if I was using as a nappy cream it would be ok
2. hard to say. We are in the middle of an eczema flare and I’m not sure it’s making a huge difference to the dry bits. I don’t use it on the raw eczema itself. It does not sting unlike some emollients. It forms a bit of a moisture barrier which is helpful if child gets wet legs.
3. it is moisturising I think, but has not shown noticeable improvement.

5. I might recommend to a parent of a child in nappies with sensitive skin. The price is offputting though and I think you’d be ok with existing nappy creams. The name and packaging don’t reAlly give much clue about what you should or could use it for, either. The info is a bit vague. I might end up using this on me rather than the child!

The texture is lovely and "soothing" meaning that was less squirming and fighting than I've found with other products. It rubbed in easily and didn't leave a greasy mark.

Used this for a persistent random dry patch on my daughters face, have been using twice a day for about 3 weeks now and there is a definite improvement in the texture/feel although doesn't seem to have changed visually.

6 year old DD reports that the cream made the itching feel better straight away. It definitely feels more moisturised and less scaly.

I wouldn't say there was anything to heal on my daughter, but definite improvement. However I put some of the balm on a nasty burn on my hand (from the oven on Christmas Day - you know the ones!) and it was very impressive - soothed instantly, although the burn had partially healed and was at the scabby itchy stage by the time I used the balm, there is no mark at all after a few weeks - and I usually scar badly.

Definitely, we have tried many products on this strange dry patch of skin and nothing has felt so immediately soothing. This makes it easier to apply as DD is old enough to understand that it will feel better. The result on my burn was impressive and next time I have anything similar I will use again. I think it will become something we turn to for all sorts of issues.

Just the right thickness which was very easily absorbed without leaving any oily residue or smell.

I used this each evening on my son after his bath on his dry patches of skin which certainly made his skin less dry within 48 hours, though not completely cleared up. Very easy to use as a nappy rash cream since it is easily absorbed and therefore easy to clean.

I've been using it on my eczema daily for over a week but I've not seen as much of a difference. It made my skin slightly less dry and inflamed but I've been using it on my hands so maybe not seeing much of a difference because I'm washing them a lot more than normal.

After 48 hours on my son, but much longer on my eczema and even then the improvement was minimal.

Not for eczema prone skin since I didn't see much of an improvement, but it's certainly very child friendly and easy to use so I would recommend for dry skin and as a nappy rash cream.

I think the cream is great, however the tube it came in is small and wouldn’t last very long in our house. I would prefer a chance to buy a large tub, similar to the Cetraban or Diprobase tubs you can get....
