This is the feedback thread for the 120 Mumsnet users who have a child aged 3 months to 6 years who suffers with dry, rough skin or nappy rash and have been testing La Roche-Posay Circaplast Balm B5. Cicaplast Balm B5 is a multi-purpose repairing balm that soothes, restores and protects babys’ delicate skin.

Selected testers were sent 2 x 40ml tubes of Cicaplast Balm and were asked to use it with their child for dry, rough skin flare-ups or for treating nappy rash for a month.

Undoubtedly. Both have mild eczema in the winter which has cleared up and my daughters very sensitive skin has been eased.

The texture of this balm reminded me of bapanthem cream, it was slightly sticky however it did absorb well and was light.

It has improved certain dry areas of my 3 year olds skin like on his elbows and knees, it eased red nappy marks on my younger son.

I used this on my eldest after each bath daily and the redness and dryness did ease within about 3 days and on my youngest it helped overnight to lessen the angry redness.

I would say this helped the healing process on my youngest better than on my eldest, eldest has eczema and have tried numerous creams this wasn’t any worse or any better than others on the worse effected areas but this did help with the itching and dryness on others. This worked wonders on my youngest for nappy rash.

I’d definitely recommend trying this although it’s pricey compared to some other creams I have thought it’s done a good job!

I'm seeing less cuts and raw patches. Since I've started using this cream I've been able to put the hydrocortisone away 😊

Definitely recommend this, in fact I've already recommended this to family and I posted my initial comments on the previous page too.
This stuff is great and whilst it is a bit dear, I will definitely buy when on offer. Offers seem to be frequent. Currently there is 3 for the price of 2. I have also seen 25% off on la roche posay products.
The cream is long lasting unlike prescription moisturisers.

Not too thick or pasty. It’s a very nice consistency that is easy to apply to the skin.

Absolutely! My son had very bad dry skin behind his ears which I’ve battled to get rid of for months, this did it in just one day!! He also sometimes gets nappy rash, and this is a fantastic cream to apply to his delicate skin after changing nappies.

Yes, the dry skin problem area was completely healed within one day! I left a bit of the cream on overnight and voila! All gone the next day.

Absolutely! It is by far the best cream we’ve tried for dry, irritated skin. It is superior to anything we’ve tried in the past and I would recommend this without hesitation. The ingredients are phenomenal and it didn’t cause any adverse reactions.

Texture of the cream was lovely, it was thinner than other creams I have used which made application easy and it felt more luxury than some of the thicker creams I have used in the past.

We haven't used this in a routine as such as I have been using this primarily for nappy rash so have applied only when required. It did work very quickly once applied though.

It’s very thick and a bit greasy. I quite like that as it feels moisturising as well as forming a bit of a barrier. It’s quite hard to run in and leaves a white sheen on the surface of the skin. Not a huge problem for us but others might not like it. We used it on my 5 year olds face as his skin it very sensitive and prone to rashes and eczema.

It definitely seems less reactive and dry.

Within days. I think the barrier effect is useful for my child.

Yes, they definitely calmed down faster without needing as much of the Protopic the Dr prescribed.

5. Would you recommend Cicaplast B5 Multi-Purpose Repairing Balm to a friend and why?

Yes, I think it’s an effective moisturiser and lightweight barrier suitable for the whole body. One needs to be prepared for it not to rub in, and to leave a white cast on the skin, but I do think these are minor issues. The cost is more than some products, but this is a specialist cream from a skin care company and I accept the premium price for this reason. A little goes a long way so the tune lasts, and anything that reduces the need for steroids or other prescription products is worth considering.

I took delivery of some of this yesterday. I ordered it in error having confused it with a different product from the same range. I will use as a facial moisturiser as it's very light and easily absorbed and contains a high SPF. However, overnight I think I've had a reaction to a new shampoo and my neck was very sore and itchy this morning. It's calmed right down with an application of this balm.

I can't answer the questions fully as I wasn't part of the test but thought this might be useful!

1. texture- smooth NON GREASY- doesn’t stain your fingers or clothing! Really easy to apply a little pea size amount goes a long way.

2. this stuff is magic - nappy rash is cleared over night - not sure if we are allowed to mention other products but I previously swore by a Yellow cream - not anymore this is incredible and having had 3 children I’ve tried a hell of a lot of products!

3. over night I saw a difference in nappy rash & my sons sore lips certainly visually looked better around 6 hours after application.

4. yes - the nappy rash didn’t have that horrible returning stage if I missed a patch.

5. I recommend this cream as an essential to all mums - should be kept in your changing bag and first aid kit. It’s non smelly, it doesn’t sting,it’s not greasy or stain-y, it performs miracles and a little goes a long way!

I would recommend as a nappy cream as it seemed a nice barrier. For sore dry skin on hand it wasn't as effective as our usual cream which is also cheaper so I would recommend that instead.

Yes. His patches of dry skin were greatly improved and the improvement with his nappy rash (caused by allergies) was impressive.

Absolutely. It had a clear positive effect on DS’s skin.

DD5 has dry skin all over her tummy, thighs and arms. There simply wasn't enough cream in the tube to slather it on the way we do with Diprobase etc. I'm sure it would be excellent for spot applications, but it would be incredibly expensive to use it in the way we need to.

Small patches seemed better overnight - but needed reapplying to prevent worsening again.

Yes - but not permanently.

For spot applications, yes. I'm sure it would be a good tool in the arsenal for small patches of dry skin. It is less useful for large areas of eczema.

Good for my daughters dry skin... particularly on her cheeks and the back of her neck. I don't think it worked so well on her bum for nappy rash.

Yes.. it is pricey.. but only a little amount is needed to heal dry, irritated skin and I trust the brand having used their adult skincare products before

I thought the texture was good. It was non greasy and not too thick as some creams for this purpose can be.

I used this this as a nappy cream as my little one doesn't have particularly dry skin but I noticed a difference when using this. She does occasionally get some redness and had some when the cream arrived and this cleared it up pretty much straight away so I continued using it as a daily cream.

Pretty much straight away. I put some on in the evening and the redness has gone in the morning.

Yes definitely. The redness was completely gone by the morning after applying it in the evening.

I would recommend it as it worked quickly and was quick and easy to apply. I find some nappy creams are very thick and when dry they leave a thick sticky residue on the skin in leg creases for example however this just soaked in so this was not an issue

Looks very thick and white when it first goes on the skin but it isn't greasy and it absorbs nicely.

The texture and application was good, it wasn't too thick or too runny, went into the skin well.

I used it for a teething rash on daughters face and it hasn't made any difference to it, I used it on some nappy rash and there was an improvement, although not any better than the usual nappy cream I use.

1. How did you find the texture and application of the Cicaplast B5 Multi-Purpose Repairing Balm?

The texture was smooth and although light cream, it soaked in well. Even using multiple times a day for my child and myself I've not even used half a tube, as very little goes a long way.

It has he has contact dermatitis from frequent washing and antibac gel, on his hands. Although due to schools closing he hasn't been washing his hands as frequently. This cream cleared up in a week what took 2 weeks with e45 in the Christmas break. It hasn't broken down again with frequent use after each hand wash.

Improvement in redness was visible in hours after first application. Fully healed by day 7

Yes I would. Looking at the tube initially it seemed like it was such a small amount. I didn't think it would last long. However you need so little of the product its extremely good value for money. However that is a bonus it works extremely well and also using it on my child had a positive effect on the eczema on my hands. It cleared that up too.
