This is the feedback thread for the 60 Mumsnetters who tested mattresses from the Little Big Dreams range with their 5-15 year olds. Each tester was given one of the below mattress to test with their children:

Moon Chaser (Traditional Spring) - The traditional spring mattress gives fantastic support with the advantage of an anti-allergy fabric treatment for a healthy night’s sleep, and helps to keep your child dreaming for longer. This mattress has a medium comfort.

Star Gazer (Foam) - The foam mattress has a removable, washable top panel to ensure your child always has a hygienic sleeping environment. The mattress has a water repellent layer underneath the removable panel to keep the mattress clean and ensures a hygienic sleeping environment for your child at all times. This mattress has a firm comfort.

Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) - The pocket spring mattress provides outstanding support for the developing child. The mattress has a luxurious cover with both anti allergy and heat regulating treatments to make sure your child sleeps well every night. The top panel is removable and washable, with a handy waterproof layer underneath, keeping the mattress clean and fresh for its entire lifetime. This mattress has a medium firm comfort.

Here’s what Dreams has to say: ‘’We are delighted to be working with Mumsnetters on the launch of our new children’s mattresses, Little Big Dreams. The brand encompasses everything that is needed to give children the best nights sleep, after all a good night's sleep is the best sleep of all.’’

Please share a photo of your child’s new mattress, explaining which mattress you chose for them and why? I picked the dream catcher as I thought it would be the best and I liked the fact that it's temperature regulating as my DD is always complaining of being too hot or too cold.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress? It looked nice/well made and was a lot lighter in weight when I swapped them over.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child? Comfort is the main priority for us.

Hi....apologies for not posting feedback last night, one of the DC was ill. I was so keen that I did post some initial feedback on the 'sign up' thread as soon as delivered though! So this is really my second verdict!

Firstly apologies for the rather rubbish photo, it honestly wasn't taken in the dark, but on arrival and I guess does still show the substantial bulk of the Dream Catcher mattress my DD (12) tested.

First impression for me was a very smart, slightly clinical looking mattress. The colour scheme - grey sides, cream top and purple piping around the edges-gave it a high end feel and would appeal to both boys and girls. I love the practicality of the removable and washable top cover, even for teens, great for illness or accidental time of the month leaks, even spilt drinks! What would be even better would be an optional extra/spare cover available to purchase.

The mattress is meant to be medium-firm but feels a little soft to me, just because of the deep padded cover. DD loves it though..."awesome" and "so comfy" and "you are never swapping it back for the old one!" One thing I do miss from her old mattress is the sprung edge, was great for me to sit on the end of her bed and chat. If I do this on the new one, I just sink in and slowly slide off. So I miss that.....but DD regards it as a bonus!! I think it would be a good feature in the top mattress in the range though....maybe make one called The Story Teller!

The most important thing to me when purchasing a mattress for my child is support, right across the mattress and over time. It would be interesting to follow up after a year but for now DD is very happy and confident that she is getting a better quality of sleep!

We received the Stargazer mattress, can't remember choosing it, think we said any of them.

Arrived ok but with a hole in the packaging and a slight rip on the bottom. We like the washable cover which would have been a godsend over the last few years. Accidents are few and far between now but will be nice to keep clean and fresh.

I thought it looked a bit thin but DC says it is very comfy. It was put on his bed for his return from a residential trip though where beds were like rock apparently!

Would usually choose a mattress based on comfort and price.

All good so far, his brother even wanted to sleep on it last night 😀

First up, my apologies for the late response. There simply wasnt enough notice for me to respond in time so I've been as quick as i could manage.

First impression questions:

Please share a photo of your child’s new mattress, explaining which mattress you chose for them and why?
We chose the stargazer as everyone else here has a foam mattress and we really like them. I also liked the removable panel as accidents happen and even a glass of water can play havoc with a mattress!

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
My daughter loved how comfortable it was.
I was really impressed with the cover and the smell (or lack of)! Most mattresses seem to smell at first. This one didn't, possibly because it wasn't rolled?

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?
Comfort. These days it's all about foam imo.

Posting again with photos now we are back 😊

Please share a photo of your child’s new mattress, explaining which mattress you chose for them and why?

We have the Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) and I chose this one as I find memory foam never seem to last and end up with a big divot where you have been lying. Also the idea of a washable cover appealed as it will keep the mattress fresh.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
It felt good quality, it is a nice depth and has a lot of support without being too firm that it is uncomfortable.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

The washable bit appeals and if I had the choice between two and one was washable I would probably pick that over the other. Also the firmness as it is important there is enough support. Finally the heat regulating also appeals as my daughter does get sweaty in bed sometimes so if a mattress is heat regulating it would also appeal.

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

We are really satisfied with the Dream Catcher mattress and are grateful to have had the chance to try out such a high quality product.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

Yes, I think it has improved his sleep. Our DS moved bedrooms and into his new bed with the new mattress, he’s slept like a log despite the hot, hot nights we’ve had and has said how comfortable it is several times.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

I think it seems to be of high quality, it looks and feels good and appears to be very well made.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

My DS liked the fact that top layer felt really soft although the mattress was medium to firm. I liked the zip off sections and the fact that it was temperature regulating and anti allergy. I’ve had a lie in it several times too and find it really comfy, more so than my own mattress!

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend the Dream Catcher mattress, it is a high quality product which is pleasing to the eye and has given my son some great nights sleep! All I need to know is will they make a king size one for me please?!

  2. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how? DS still won't sleep in his own bed, however, the heat hasn't helped. That being said, he has been sleeping for longer in his own room, so fingers crossed he will get there.
  3. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality? The quality was really good. I lie with ds to get him to sleep, and was so comfy, I almost fell asleep at times.
  4. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress? DS likes that it was bouncier than his other mattress. I found it very comfortable.
  5. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why? Yes, I feel the price is very good for a high quality mattress.

Really satisfied, it is nice and supportive yet not too firm. The removable cover is easy to wash.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

She has slept really well and doesn't seem to have got sweaty during these hot nights like she used to on her old mattress.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Really good quality, it hasn't divotted where she has been lying.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Final review answers:

  1. Very satisfied - a comfortable mattress that is neither too firm or bouncy, and hasn't been too hot in this weather (unlike some foam mattresses).
  2. Yes - DD no longer complains of being too hot to sleep.
  3. Good quality, comfortable mattress. I tried it myself one night and found it to be more comfortable than the fancy mattress DH and I normally sleep on.
  4. DD is 6 and liked the purple bits on the mattress. I liked the comfort and heat regulation.
  5. Yes - a good quality mattress in what is presumably a mid-price range (haven't looked it up.) The only quibble I have is about the mattress cover tending to bunch up a bit in places, as mentioned in my previous post.

1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?
I was really happy with the mattress, it was really comfortable, makes no noise when rolling over and ds has always been a shuffler in his sleep. He has been very happy with it and says it’s really comfy.

2. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?
I think it has, ds isn’t sleeping any longer than he ever has but he seems to be more comfortable at night, less hot and sweaty at night and a bit less wriggly. He also looks a lot less tired in the daytime.

3. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?
I think it’s a great mattress, it seems to be holding it’s shape well, no dipping yet but time will tell, the top cover washes well too.

4. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?
The washable top cover is such a brilliant idea for kids whether it’s needed for toileting accidents or sweating it’s a great way of keeping the mattress clean and fresh without being plasticky and sweaty like a waterproof sheet is.

5. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?
Absolutely, dd will soon be moving up to her first big bed and I’ll be getting her the same mattress. It’s a comfortable and supportive mattress and is reasonably priced. I just wish ds hadn’t spent so long on a budget mattress.

. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Quite satisfied. The mattress is firm and good quality but I have two gripes:

  • the strange sticky layer as described in my initial post
  • the fact that the top layer has bunched up over just a few weeks of use, creating crease that make it less comfortable to lie on.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

My son's last mattress was fairly cheap and uncomfortable but we improved it by adding a mattress topper. However, this one is more comfortable even without a mattress topper so in that sense he gets a better night's sleep now.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Firm and good quality with the exceptions noted above in qu 1.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Firm to lie on. Nice trim.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Probably. The range in general appears to be good quality and the mattress we were given is a definite improvement on my son's previous one. I might hesitate to recommend the range based on the drawbacks that I mentioned in qu 1.

I'd also like to add that we are very grateful for this opportunity and my son was super excited to be picked for this! Thanks MN.

My DD has been sleeping better than before even during this heatwave. I suspect the mattress is cooler to sleep on than her previous foam mattress.

Pretty good overall, although there looked to be a few folds of excess fabric under the top cover, slightly wrinkled looking obviously this is nothing effecting it’s function.

We have been very satisfied with the mattress. It looks and feels great and has given a great night's sleep from day one.

I do think my child's sleep has improved. She's been less inclined to get up in the mornings! She's never been the greatest sleeper, even now as a teen, but she says she feels she is sleeping better. This is because the mattress is both supportive and soft.

It's very good quality. It looks smart and feels soft to the touch. It provides excellent support.

Hers favourite feature was just how comfortable it was. I liked the lightness and manoeuvrability and the removable cover.

We would absolutely recommend this mattress. It looks and feels great and for anyone seeking a softer mattress with good support then this fits the bill.

My daughter has given this mattress rave reviews. In fact, I am finding it really difficult to get her up in the morning! She said that it is really comfy and not "lumpy" at all. I am impressed with the thickness of the mattress and the quality of the cover which can be removed for washing.
My favourite feature was the removeable mattress cover and my daughters was the firmness of the mattress which really improved her sleep.
This mattress is such fantastic quality I would not hesitate to recommend it. It is really thick with a luxurious feel to the top layer. There are no protruding lumpy springs and the removeable mattress cover is an absolute godsend for those with children!
