This is the feedback thread for the 60 Mumsnetters who tested mattresses from the Little Big Dreams range with their 5-15 year olds. Each tester was given one of the below mattress to test with their children:

Moon Chaser (Traditional Spring) - The traditional spring mattress gives fantastic support with the advantage of an anti-allergy fabric treatment for a healthy night’s sleep, and helps to keep your child dreaming for longer. This mattress has a medium comfort.

Star Gazer (Foam) - The foam mattress has a removable, washable top panel to ensure your child always has a hygienic sleeping environment. The mattress has a water repellent layer underneath the removable panel to keep the mattress clean and ensures a hygienic sleeping environment for your child at all times. This mattress has a firm comfort.

Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) - The pocket spring mattress provides outstanding support for the developing child. The mattress has a luxurious cover with both anti allergy and heat regulating treatments to make sure your child sleeps well every night. The top panel is removable and washable, with a handy waterproof layer underneath, keeping the mattress clean and fresh for its entire lifetime. This mattress has a medium firm comfort.

Here’s what Dreams has to say: ‘’We are delighted to be working with Mumsnetters on the launch of our new children’s mattresses, Little Big Dreams. The brand encompasses everything that is needed to give children the best nights sleep, after all a good night's sleep is the best sleep of all.’’

An update a few months later...unfortunately we are getting rid of our Stargazer mattress. Less than a year later it has a huge dip in the middle of it. My son is a tall, thin 10 year old who is not at all heavy. Hope it's ok to update this thread like this.

Final review questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

We were both very satisfied. My DS is so grateful to finally have a decent mattress.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

Yes. I have noticed that he gets to sleep quicker. He actually told me that he looks forward to settling down in bed now, as he is instantly comfortable.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

It seems good quality so far, springs back into shape and is still as supportive as day 1. The cover is showing no signs of wear or bobbling. Seams and stitching are still perfect.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

I like the fact it has a cover and keeps a comfortable temperature. My DS says it's the support it gives- his actual words were that it 'envelops and cushions you, but without sinking in'.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, from what we have experienced so far. It is modern, well-made, supportive, even for my strapping 14 year old and has great design features. The pricing also seems fairly reasonable.

Final Review - sorry this has taken a bit of time, we've been away.

1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?
Very satisfied
2. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how? This is hard to measure as it has been so hot and sticky for most of the time. However, it is much more comfortable than the last one.
3. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?
Just as comfortable as it seemed on first impressions. I felt it was slightly on the soft side but my daughter really likes it.
4. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress? Softness, lack of smell, seems to be maintaining shape (and the purple trim)
5. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?
Yes, i think so - comfortable, good mattress and reasonably good value

  1. Sorry, my photo won't upload for some reason - I had the moonchaser
  2. My daughter loved the purple trim around the outside. It looked v good quality and not so deep it couldn't be used in a cabin bed.
  3. Quality

Final review questions:
  1. Very satisfied
  2. Definitely improved her sleep. She had a cheaper thinner mattress before
  3. Fantastic quality
  4. Her favourite feature is still the purple edge (she can see it through her white sheet). Mine is the allergy topper on it looks and feels good.
  5. I would recommend, it is a perfect thickness to use in all kinds of beds from bunks to traditional beds. It isn't too firm so easy to change fitted sheets. It also looks nice - silly when it is covered but nice to know nonetheless

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Great! Both my DS and I thought it was really comfortable. I often squeeze in with him to read bedtime stories and it happily took both our weights without sagging or us rolling in together.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

Hard to tell if it has improved his sleep as due to the heat his sleep has been a bit disturbed. He does say how comfy his bed now is though!

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Really good.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Comfy but not too soft.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Definitely. It's comfy, looks expensive and I think is a good price point.

My final impressions:
I am very happy with the mattress, it's definitely better than the ones we had previously. I will now need to buy another one for my other child as they are fighting over it! It's very practical, quite light so easy to move around, very comfortable.

My child is usually a good sleeper but she has commented that she sleeps better on her new mattress. The quality is very good and the removable cover is a great feature for young children. I would definitely recommend to other families.

Very, my son has been sleeping really well and enjoys spending more time in bed on a morning since recieveing this mattress.

Yes he is sleeping more comfortably.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Pleased. I like it.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Soft and supportive and little boy likes the style of the mattress and thinks it like sleeping on a cloud.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, we are very happy with this matress and it is comfortable and breathable and does the job perfectly.

First impression questions:

  1. Please share a photo of your child’s new mattress, explaining which mattress you chose for them and why?

This was the Moon Chaser Traditional Spring. We didn’t make a choice. It is photographed in an Ikea Kura bed and we were able to choose the correct height for the bed.

  1. What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?

Very comfortable. It replaced the Ikea foam mattress recommended with the Kura and my son immediately noticed the difference (as did Dad one night when they had to swap because Mummy-cuddles were needed all night)

  1. What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

Durability, comfort, good spine support.

Final review questions:
  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Very, my son has been sleeping better and choosing to spend more time in bed (early to bed to read, reading in bed in the am) since we switched to this.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

I think so -his bed has been cooler than the other children’s during this hot spell. I’m assuming this is because of the sprung structure vs foam.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Pleased. I like the breathable feel to the cover.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Feels soft, supportive and responsive. DS likes the purple colour.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, we are very happy with it and find it more comfortable and breathable than the foam mattresses that seem to come with children’s beds.

Final review questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

It’s a great mattress, good support, soft and functional outer cover. My daughter loved the feel of it and the colour, slept really well.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

My daughter slept really well, she said it felt soft like a cloud and felt cozy.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

No worries at all about how long the mattress is going to last, appears to be well made with a good layer of form support. Lovely outer layer which gives the impression of a much more expensive mattress.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

For me the support it offers, the hypo allergenic function ( daughter has allergies) and the outer layer that can be washed imif there are any mishaps- inspect an hour scrubbing my other daughters mattress the other night that does not have this feature. For my daughter the soft feel, cool colour and how comfy she felt.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Absolutely, good features with the foam section that can be removed, allergy conscious, good solid support yet comfy. Outer layer is soft, nice colour, looks more expensive than it is!

Final review questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Very. Daughter loved it from the outset. I have tried to be more neutral but have tested it myself as well over the last two nights while she is at Scout Camp. The top feels soft and warm yet it is amazingly supportive and even.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

This is difficult as the test period has coincided with the heatwave which has made everyone a bit restless. DD is 12 so I asked her instead and she says yes, definitely!

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

Very good, better than previous household brand sprung mattress on son's bed or John Lewis sprung children's mattress that originally came with her bed.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

Mine -washable top - gives peace of mind (so I can sleep!)
Hers -soft feel (even thought still firm and supportive). Cannot feel springs!

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child?

Yes, definitely.

Thank you!

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Really satisfied with it. I had wanted the Dream Catcher because my son is 11, and thought the Star Gazer wouldn't suit him, but he loves it.
  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

Yes, I think it has. He often complains he's too hot, but hasn't done that at all, even during the recent very hot weather.
  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

I think it's a really well made product. He's pretty light, but there's no dents on it at all where he's been laying on it, even thought he's not moved off it for the last 2 weeks, even during the day (thanks to Fortnite!)
  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

He says it's really comfortable and not too hot like his last one.
  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. The quality is excellent and well worth the retail price.

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Myself and my son were very satisfied with new mattress. The quality of the mattress is high and it is very comfortable.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

I would say that my son doesn't wake up as much as before but I can't really say if it was just the mattress itself. He does like playing on the bed more now though.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

The quality is great, you can see that it has been well made to high standards and I don't think it become more uncomfortable over time unlike other mattresses. I think it be long wearing.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

My son had a rare accident in the middle of the night so I have to say the removable/washable cover and the protective layer underneath. Any other mattress would have been ruined but it was so easy to clean and it the mattress did not absorb anything. Fantastic!

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, absolutely. As mentioned above, the removable cover and protective layer would be useful for any child prone to accidents or if a child spills a drink. I wish I had this mattress when my older son was younger.
It also didn't seem to keep the heat with the recent hot weather which made sleeping bearable and comfortable.

Final review questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

My daughter has slept very well on the mattress and I think it looks more expensive that it would have been to buy (we're testing the Moon Chaser, so the cheapest of the three models)

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

I think it has. My daughter has only mentioned once that she couldn't sleep and that was on a super hot night so was mostly likely the weather. She is also spending more time on her bed, reading, playing etc.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

The mattress certainly looks the part and the stitching is still in place, obviously I would expect this after 40 days anyway, but I'm pleased it isn't falling apart. I think the grey and purple colours with the piping, make the mattress look more expensive than it would be and make a change from the more boring white ones.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

As it was just your basic Moon Chaser, it didn't really have any features over and above what you might expect. However it certainly had a lovely, even, feel to it. I'm not sure if it has a foam topper but we couldn't feel the springs when lying on it (even me as a larger framed mum!). That was the biggest difference between the Moon Chaser and DD's previous (branded and similar priced) mattress. You could feel the springs in the old mattress.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend the Little Big Dreams range and also the Moon Chaser. For the price, I was impressed with how comfy it is and the wipe clean cover could be a bonus (we haven't had to test this but the mattress doesn't seem plasticky or hot)

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Very satisfied. It’s difficult to get information like this out of DS(7) at the best of times, but it’s clear he’s sleeping well and his excema is also less severe at the moment (might also due to us creaming more regularly)

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

Not clearly, he has always been a pretty good sleeper although the first night he slept on it he did say ‘now I’ll be able to go straight to sleep, without having to sing or tell myself stories’.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

The quality is good - it’s firmer than his previous mattress and gives him more support.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

My child: that it was brand new and arrived in the post just for him (biggest present ever!). Me: the hypoallergenic properties, which so far seem to the job, and in principle the waterproof layer, which has not been put to the test yet.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Yes, as I haven’t seen the features of hypoallergenic and waterproof layer together before, it is perfect for children like my son who need a clean and hypoallergenic mattress (when there is old urine stains he often coughs a lot, he also has mild asthma.)

Final review questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

Very. It seems a really comfortable mattress - I lie on it every night when I read to him, and it feels comfortable to me.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

I think it has. Having had a child who always wanted to co-sleep, we've finally reached the point where he will fall asleep in his own bed - and often stay there until 5am or so. A miracle compared to how it used to be!
  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

I'm impressed with it. It seems good quality to me. When I change the bedding on my other child's bed, I can't help but notice that his foam mattress does not seem as good.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

I love the removable waterproof cover - such a clever design. I think my son just likes having his own big boy bed - and a comfortable mattress is part of that.
  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?

Definitely. It seems a well-made and well designed mattress. And I love the removable cover. I only wish I'd had this mattress sooner!

2. What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress? I was expecting it to be heavy to lift/move, but compared to our old mattress it was much lighter. It also appeared to be very comfortable and springy.
3. What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child? Comfort and support.

Final review questions:
1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?
My child seems to like the mattress so I'm happy with it.
2. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how? I don't think it's neccessarily improved the quality of sleep, however my child finds the mattress to be comfortable.
3. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality? I've included a pic.
4. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress? I like the anti allergy treatment layer, my child likes the bounciness.

  1. Overall how satisfied were you and your child with the mattress?

We were very satisfied. My son can’t stop talking about how comfortable the mattress is.

  1. Has the mattress improved the quality of your child’s sleep? If so, how?

It has definitely improved my son’s quality of sleep. It would take ages for him to fall asleep as the spring mattress he previously had would hurt his back. Now, he just puts his head on the pillow and sleeps.

  1. After testing the mattress what did you think about the quality?

It is extremely supportive and comfortable. It’s quite firm yet bouncy and it seems to be keeping its shape well. We rotated the mattress twice already. My son is very slim and I’m sure the mattress will last a good few years.

  1. What were your and your child’s favourite features of the mattress?

We love the quality and comfort it gives to every night sleep. Bonus points for the washable cover.

  1. Would you recommend the Little Big Dreams mattress range to friends looking at purchasing a mattress for their child? If so, why?
