AnnMumsnet · 06/05/2011 09:26

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Thanks and best of luck

We have a few shoots but think I'll give them a bit longer before moving to pots.

AlmaMartyr · 11/05/2011 11:51

I transplanted my seedlings to individual pots today as they were just big enough to handle and I'm going on holiday so didn't them to get overcrowded while we are away. There are 58 seedlings in total although some of them are obviously much healthier than others (some with two sets of leaves now). They are all on sunny windowsills now, will have to hope they grow well while we're away. DD helped transplant them and was surprisingly gentle which as nice. She seems to think they are strawberry plants though Hmm

TheMonster · 11/05/2011 19:13

No seedlings for me yet.

Lavitabellissima · 11/05/2011 19:30

None for me either BodyOfEeyore, I let MIL plant them and am now wondering if she sabotaged me Hmm

Lilyloo · 11/05/2011 19:34

We have a few seedlings here too , have taken my tray into pre school today so the kids can watch the progress. Too small to move yet.

we have mutant seeds!! growing so quick

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 11/05/2011 23:10

Yes, we have some tiny sprouts showing today after sowing them only 3 days ago - cannot believe they have withstood DS2's watering regime :)

whomovedmychocolate · 11/05/2011 23:36

Flipping snails have been munching mine grrrr Angry

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 12/05/2011 07:53

RAlover · 12/05/2011 07:58

No seedlings yet.........will keep watching and waiting!!

jasper1980 · 12/05/2011 08:55

Discovered that the tortoises heat lamp may help them grow, but the tortoise then ate the leaves Blush....have moved them now

Lavitabellissima · 12/05/2011 09:49

Angry mine still haven't grown Sad I even had a dream they'd sprouted, how very sad!

droitwichmummy · 12/05/2011 11:00

Hooray! 2 weeks after planting I finally have seedlings Grin I had given up on them and ignored them for a couple of days after finding a slug inside my propegator (sp?) Angry. Went to plant some more and there were 3 seedlings! I have hastily removed them before another slug comes along and planted them in a 3" pot which I have put outside for today (bit warmer here - we're in Worcestershire & not seen frost for a few days). They are sitting on top of a raised bed which has a copper strip round it as apparently slugs don't like that. I'll pop them in my smaller greenhouse tonight though - not found any slugs in that one yet.

Now where's my camera.....

gottasmile · 12/05/2011 13:49

Hooray, we have seedlings Grin

I feel bad now that I thought MIL had sabotaged me Blush and she's currently cleaning my kitchen, love her really Smile

Has anyone sent a photo yet? I don't think mine are interesting enough yet.

ouryve · 13/05/2011 16:38

Well, out of the 8 seeds planted 15 days ago, we've come to the conclusion that we're going to have to settle for just the one seedling (Had 100% success with other tomato varieties in the same compost, so a little baffled). It's a weedy little thing, too, having just sprouted its first proper leaves and still being very, very small. DS1 is still quite proud of it, though. Just hope it survives!

There's a frost risk in a lot of areas, this weekend, by the way!

Bicnod · 13/05/2011 18:04

AnnMumsnet - I've emailed some pics, could you possibly confirm they've arrived as I'm worried they were too big? Thanks :)

Seedlings still going well here - we're off on hols for 2 weeks tomorrow so neighbour is going to water them for us - fingers crossed they'll have proper leaves when we get back.

droitwichmummy · 13/05/2011 19:13

Thanks for the frost warning ouryve - I'll pop mine back in the greenhouse for tonight

mollymole · 13/05/2011 19:32

i must have got mutant triffid seeds - put seeds in plastic cups and loads and loads sprouted - have today transplanted 40 of the little buggers into little individual pods and put them back on the kitchen window ledge and thrown a pile of those i couldn't be bothered with into a grow bag in the car port

ChutesTooNarrow · 13/05/2011 19:46

I am taking a benign neglect approach to tomato plant rearing. Seeds were chucked into compost a week or two ago. They were then ignored. I now have a triffid style forest on my window ledge. I am impressed but they will be ignored for another week whilst we go on holiday. Then they will be transported to my mother's greenhouse where she will definitely ignore them as well.

I will e-mail a photo soon if only to highlight my excellent use of takeaway cartons and lids to grow my seeds. I'm on the verge of buying more seeds so I have an excuse to buy more takeaway.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 13/05/2011 19:56

Mine are doing great :)

MrsJohnDeere · 13/05/2011 20:13

Grockle · 13/05/2011 21:59

Still nothing here

TheMonster · 14/05/2011 10:47
