AnnMumsnet · 06/05/2011 09:26

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Thanks and best of luck

Have fair amount of seedings here, when's best to pop them outside? Going to separate them out before hand.

TheMonster · 14/05/2011 18:45

And they've already grown today!

chrisonabike · 14/05/2011 19:02

Chutes benign neglect has worked well here. I forgot entirely about the pot-in-the-loft for a couple of days Blush remembered this pm and I have loads of wee sprouts

No fecking idea what to do now. Flashback to when I bought DS home from hospital Grin

TheMonster · 15/05/2011 10:50

20 shoots this morning Grin

Grin Christonabike. I reckon we just keep them watered.

gottasmile · 15/05/2011 13:22

It's amazing how fast they're growing, we have loads now. I know we have to put them in a bigger pot, does anyone know exactly when?

So funny Chrisonabike!! I feel the same way.

TheMonster · 15/05/2011 14:07

Oh my god! Since I posted this morning there are more shoots and some of the taller ones have proper leaves! I am gobsmacked!

whomovedmychocolate · 15/05/2011 17:39

Ann@mumsnet. I have emailed you two pics. Mine have been hit by frost :(

Well one set have, one set are in the potatoes and doing really, really well.

TheMonster · 15/05/2011 17:40

whomoved Sad Mine are indoors at the moment.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/05/2011 17:41

Sorry that sounded weird. I have a growing sack (think round flexible plastic sack) for potatoes and have put some of my toms in with them for shelter and to keep the slugs off. They are growing in shade but are doing really well. I'm quite surprised really, I thought they would miss the light, but apparently not. Either that or they are mutants. Wink If I don't post for a while they have eaten me while I'm watering them.

PaperView · 15/05/2011 18:55

Nothing here (indoors)

Collision · 15/05/2011 18:56

DH and DS2 planted them last weekend.

No seedlings yet.

RAlover · 15/05/2011 19:07

Yay.............I have seedling shooty things
Will report back later in the week!!

snorkie · 15/05/2011 22:56

I have moved mine into small flowerpots and moved them from the kitchen windowsill into the greenhouse. They have been up about 9 days and have their first set of true leaves.

DoodleAlley · 16/05/2011 07:47

We've got about thirty seedlings about an inch high but no proper leaves yet just the two seedling leaves.
DS(2.5) keeps checking them for tomatoes! I think he thought that actual whole tomatoes would grow from the ground. I think city life may be affecting him more than I realised!!!

MrsJohnDeere · 16/05/2011 17:02

4 seedlings now

ilovesprouts · 16/05/2011 17:44

mine are in ex bf greenhouse at the mo will take pics asap

TheMonster · 16/05/2011 19:39

I can't find the sodding camera.

craftynclothy · 17/05/2011 15:49

I'm currently debating whether to move to pots. I have some that are getting their proper leaves but others that are just starting. Am I meant to cut the tray thingy they're in?

Oh and I had loads of difficulty finding tomato grobags, everywhere had those giant ones and I wanted normal ones to try the cutting in half trick.

mustdash · 17/05/2011 18:50

Hurrah, finally got them planted. Found an old electric propagator and some vermiculite in the shed. If it doesn't explode, it might get them off to a good start.

I want some visible seedlings before some friends come to visit weekend after next. Am I being over pushy? Smile

Grockle · 17/05/2011 19:03

Ooo, some tiny seedlings appeared! Hurrah!

HarrietJones · 17/05/2011 20:24

Mine aren't growing. I'm having a funny year for seeds. Some are huge , some are no existence

chrisonabike · 18/05/2011 07:54

I think mine deserve their first photoshoot. I'll have to extract the dried foodstuff that DS has cemented into the lens on my iphone, but I will post some pics.

BehindLockNumberNine · 18/05/2011 17:45

I now have approx 40 sprouty thin shoots spread over 8 pots. They are desperately in need of being thinned out and transferred to a growbag. But I am worried they are too fragile to go outside just yet (PFT syndrome)
However, the soil in 4 of the pots is covered in mould. Not sure why?

Will transfer them at the weekend when I have some time.

Have also noticed that due to the watering of my PFTs the window sill upon which they reside has become damp and the paint is blistering off. Yikes.

jasper1980 · 20/05/2011 09:15

I took the step of transferring the strongest ones to a growbag yesterday...they are in teh greenhouse in the garden and I hope they don't die now!!!

TheMonster · 21/05/2011 13:04

I have sent MN my first piccy. I might even put it on my profile. Does that make me a saddo?
BehindLock, I have a couple of bits of mould too and I am not sure why. I'm ignoring it for now.
I have 46 seedlings in total, which isn't bad for me! I'm keeping them indoors for now.
