AnnMumsnet · 23/11/2010 18:34

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are reviewing a Sharp Plasmacluster air purifier in their home. All reviewers have at least one child with asthma or dust allergies - this could be mild, moderate or severe. Reviewers will be adding feedback and thoughts over the next three months, in a diary style.

However if you are not a reviewer but are interested in this product please feel free to add comments or ask questions of Sharp or of the reviewers.

Please note: This feedback will only be used by Sharp to inform their development of the product, it will not be treated as a clinical trial.

Sharp have some specific areas they would like you to comment on - you won't be able to add comments/ views on all of these straight away as some are looking at the longer term issues so please do revisit the thread and update your responses over the period of the review.

Please state the age of your child(ren) with asthma / dust allergies as well as the severity of their condition.

Initially, please add your first impressions of the product when it arrived: for example: overall first impressions of the product, was it what you expected? Where have you placed it? How was it to get it set up/ started etc. If you have any queries about the product please either post them here and Sharp will aim to respond or email MNHQ.

Then once you have had the product in your home for awhile, please add your thoughts, comments or experiences regarding the following areas - and the possible effects the air purifier has had for yourself and your child(ren).

Affect on asthma / dust allergy generally
Any reduction in illnesses in the home or affects on winter colds you would normally expect to see
Any reduction in smells around the home
Any reduction or effect on dust in the home - and the effect of this on your child with asthma
Any reduction or effect on mould in and around the home (in troublesome areas such as Bathroom and Kitchen where ventilation might be an issue) - and the effect of this on your child with asthma
Any other comments?

All reviewers who add feedback here will receive a £50 high street gift voucher as a token of thanks for taking part.

Many thanks

MNHQ

Us too louii. Very happy Grin

Thank you Sharp and Mumsnet.

Ds, aged 9, will be delighted. We were discussing it with him the other evening and he was very clear that it had helped him a lot and he noticed the difference when we stole borrowed it to test in our room.

I realised today that ds has not needed his steroid nasal spray since we have had the machine.

It will be very interesting to see how he is when we go away next week to a house with lots of pets and no plasmacluster.

brambleschooks · 17/02/2011 17:07

We can't afford to keep it, but will miss it.

It has been a godsend recently as we have had plastering done and it has sucked all the extra dust out of the air.

I will miss moving it from room to room when dusting as it has cleared the air down for me - usually i am wanting to scratch my face off but that has reduced with this machine.

it's going back into ds room tonight as we've had it cleaning the air downstairs.

blueberryboybaitonSafari · 18/02/2011 10:27

Thanks to sharp and grandparents we are keeping ours, the extra £50 off really was the deciding factor.

GemmaSharp - is there any chance of getting a second set of instructions? Mine were eaten by an 8month old with an appetite for destruction!

SameAsYou · 21/02/2011 15:00

Apologies for the late review - we have been using (Ive just been on Mumsnet as much as normal)honestly!

DS is 5 years and 3 months.

I replied to the survey as having a happy wheezer for a child - which means that he can have an inhaler as and when he gets chesty we can go to the docs for a blue inhaler. DS has bronchiolitis as a 6 week old baby and has always needed a little assistance during the winter months - be it AB's or AB's and an inhaler.

It has been plugged in and I have to say have not had an inhaler this winter. I am not sure if a mixture of things as in we have moved house so all new carpets (other rental house was dusty old carpets) but i do feel that the purifier is mainly the reason.

He has just generally not been as ruttly and as I can normally feel the ruttly airwaves through his back if my hand is rested upon him.

Thanks so much for this and will be a shame to pass back but from reading the other reviews I see that DS is the opposite end of these cases so as much as its been great I know I am very fortunate that its something that we wont need to rely on - hope that makes sense.

Great to hear you got it for £200!

DaftApeth · 22/02/2011 07:28

We are away for half term this week, staying at my sister's house.

Ds has needed piriton and his nasal steroid spray everyday and his eye shiners are noticeably prominent even since arriving on Friday.

Wish we had our machine with us!

blueberryboybaitonSafari · 22/02/2011 09:26

Daft - I took ours to visit my parents last week, mum was most offended that I thought she didn't dust enough!

DaftApeth · 23/02/2011 02:45
Grin

Wish I had brought it with us!

StarExpat · 24/02/2011 21:25

AnnMumsnet · 24/02/2011 22:44

We will be home after 4.30pm. I have to take DS with me for my quick blood test that day as well so we may not be home until 5. DH should be home by 4.30, though.

We both work during the day and have just had both of our half terms (teachers - dh had his this week, I had mine last week).

We can stay up for a late pick up.

I have also not received the voucher.

brambleschooks · 25/02/2011 08:13

Is that a Monday for all of us? Monday next?

Ds2 has been very ill with serious asthma and complications with his diabetes for the last month so haven't had time to do much - like digging the box out!

AnnMumsnet · 25/02/2011 08:35

Hi, yes it will be Monday 28th.
I'll let you know when I know more....

We could leave it just outside of our door in the morning? I doubt anyone would steal it as it's heavy but maybe that's not such a good idea just in case...
