AnnMumsnet · 23/11/2010 18:34

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are reviewing a Sharp Plasmacluster air purifier in their home. All reviewers have at least one child with asthma or dust allergies - this could be mild, moderate or severe. Reviewers will be adding feedback and thoughts over the next three months, in a diary style.

However if you are not a reviewer but are interested in this product please feel free to add comments or ask questions of Sharp or of the reviewers.

Please note: This feedback will only be used by Sharp to inform their development of the product, it will not be treated as a clinical trial.

Sharp have some specific areas they would like you to comment on - you won't be able to add comments/ views on all of these straight away as some are looking at the longer term issues so please do revisit the thread and update your responses over the period of the review.

Please state the age of your child(ren) with asthma / dust allergies as well as the severity of their condition.

Initially, please add your first impressions of the product when it arrived: for example: overall first impressions of the product, was it what you expected? Where have you placed it? How was it to get it set up/ started etc. If you have any queries about the product please either post them here and Sharp will aim to respond or email MNHQ.

Then once you have had the product in your home for awhile, please add your thoughts, comments or experiences regarding the following areas - and the possible effects the air purifier has had for yourself and your child(ren).

Affect on asthma / dust allergy generally
Any reduction in illnesses in the home or affects on winter colds you would normally expect to see
Any reduction in smells around the home
Any reduction or effect on dust in the home - and the effect of this on your child with asthma
Any reduction or effect on mould in and around the home (in troublesome areas such as Bathroom and Kitchen where ventilation might be an issue) - and the effect of this on your child with asthma
Any other comments?

All reviewers who add feedback here will receive a £50 high street gift voucher as a token of thanks for taking part.

Many thanks

MNHQ

Well, that would be even better. Dyson have always been very generous with their machines for free Wink

When are we getting our shopping voucher for taking part?
I think we should definately be rewarded for such positive feedback with the gift of keeping our machines. ;-)

DaftApeth · 06/02/2011 17:32

I had forgotten about the shopping voucher.

Could we swap the vouchers for keeping our machines? Wink

I'm most definately up for swapping voucher for machine, seems fair. :-)

I would be willing to give up my voucher for another £50 off the price, then we have chance of keeping it.

I turned it off and dd started with the night cough... back on with the humidifier part for 2 nights and all ok now.
I deffo can't afford to buy it though.
As an aside, I slept in DD's room the other night, (musical bloody beds) and its whirs - I couldn't bear it!

Actually, I am being a bit slow mentally here, dd has a history of allergies that intensify in February - she takes anti histamines daily from mid Jan to mid March to control it.
She hasn't taken them....... we always KNOW when to start them, the sniff, wet nose and night cough every end Jan..........
I might not be in when Sharp's courier comes............... Wink

Am really upset we can't afford tokeep it Sad

Would make so much doifference. Was awful turning it off so we turned it back on again after just 1 night!!

Dd4 has not had a bad night since we have been using it and to top it off ds1 looks like he has athsma too Sad

Have loved having it here and will look out for similar but more affordable ones.

We would love to keep it but £250 a bit ouch at the moment.

Ann/Gemma, would Sharp consider reducing the price any more below £250?

They would not have to pay the cost for the courier if we bought it and I would happily forego the voucher too.

I've been looking at humidifier and air purifier combinations for a much cheaper price and I think they will help as well. Thinking positively! :)
Even if I could afford the sharp one (no way we could!) then I worry we wouldn't be able to afford the pricey replacement filters.

We've done a night or two with a humidifier/ioniser or purifier combo for about £40 from boots (I think? I didnt buy it, so not entirely sure), but it did help. Obviously haven't tested long term, though. Just to give a spark of hope.

I can't find the box. Dh clears out the loft each month. Still looking around

I can't find any that combine both humidifier and air purifier, expat.

Does the one you are trying do both?

Report
StarExpat · 13/02/2011 20:50

I think so... Will have a look. Other option is to run both at same time :)

We have been looking at this one and trying to budget for it. I am being cheeky and waiting until as late as possible as the grandparents have been amazed at the difference in DD I am hoping they will offer a little cash towards it!

We really can't afford it but it has changed our lives so much that I simply can't return it.
We can't go back to how life used to be.

My parents are going to help us out a bit.

Out of interest has anyone said they will be a case study and that their comments etc can be used?

Blueberry - I know someone with asthmatic dd who uses that one! She swears by it. Loves it. much more reasonable, too!
Louii I said yes but not using my RL or mn name

Blueberry, the one you linked to looks good. It says 'no extra costs for disposable filters' does this mean that we would not have to spend loads on new filters. Can they just be cleaned? Starexpat, would your friend know?

That one linked does look good and a lot cheaper, hmmmmmmm.

I'm really going to miss then when it's gone.
It has helped DS2's breathing at night immensily. He has just started with another cold so I'm hoping the courir doesn't arrive for another week or so! Smile

It's a shame we can't afford to keep it, but maybe in the future we'll buy one. I'll definatly be recommending it to all my friends.

Thanks for letting us take part. Smile
