Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Hi Jeremy,
Theresa May made it clear in a question and answer session a few weeks ago that she would not do anything to support the cause of veganism when someone asked whether she would provide vegan options for children's school meals. How would you support veganism as Prime Minister?

Perfectplonker · 30/05/2017 12:05

Jeremy is here?!

I fell in love with you last night Jeremy.

Swoon Grin

imablackstarnotapopstar · 30/05/2017 12:06

You are our hero!

JustineMumsnet · 30/05/2017 12:06

Jeremy's in the building and about to crack on any moment.

Ihatepawpatrol · 30/05/2017 12:06

Dear Jeremy, my three year old daughter is a summer born and I really want to start her in Reception at csa. At the minute it can be a postcode lottery as some la's are more open to deferals than others. It can be a battle in some areas to get consent for children to begin at 5 years old rather than at 4 years old. Will labour look at making it easier for parents to chose a csa start for summer born children? Many thanks.

VanillaSugar · 30/05/2017 12:06

Marking my place.

AStickInTime · 30/05/2017 12:07

Do you think the NHS is honestly salvageable and sustainable? So many people say it's on it's knees and we just can't afford to continue it, which to be honest is a scary prospect.

shakeyospeare · 30/05/2017 12:07

I have been looking forward to this all morning.

I've no question but would like to say this to Jeremy:

You've inspired not only myself to be politically minded after being so fed up with the same old, but also my two young daughters who have been questioning fairness and equality and who have both accompanied me to watch you speak. My eldest daughter wants to become class representative next year and considering she has never shown any interest, this is amazing.

You are going to make a great Prime Minister. Thank you for giving so many of us hope in pretty dark and grim times.

lilimorgana · 30/05/2017 12:08

How are you going to help out the younger, working members of the population who live in areas of the South where wages are low and yet rent and property prices are disproportionately high. This demographic is all but forgotten because the whole of the South is consistently portrayed as being affluent when in actual fact this is very much not so.

RTKangaMummy · 30/05/2017 12:08

Sooooo excited to see you in MN HQ

Thank you

What do you think are the consequences to VAT on school fees?

mummyhappiness · 30/05/2017 12:08

I have just this week alone met two associates who boast proudly of non tax turnover of in excess of 150,000 thousand each - one breeds and sells French bull dogs and one sells records and CD's online on ebay.

I know of many more similar stories and many of the people I meet that do this get state benefits as well as a massive tax free income.

Can labour not..... rather than tax small legitimate companies more - see that the black market economy - especially online has never been so vast and is a major major loss of tax revenue and is contributing to the closure of legitimate high street bricks and mortar businesses. A lower tax rate for all but enforced properly across the board would surely be progressive. History has shown that higher tax simply encourages the cheating culture.

GretchenFranklin · 30/05/2017 12:08

Jezza!

Samham · 30/05/2017 12:09

Hi Jeremy

Do you believe that cultural experiences should be better funded? They are the difference between existing and living and like other areas they have been hit hard by austerity measures. Do you plan to change this?

Carolinethebrave · 30/05/2017 12:09

Hi, will you make any changes to Stamp Duty and what do you make of the research showing that that the increases in SDLT brought in by the Conservatives led to revenue losses for the exchequer?

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/14/stamp-duty-reforms-are-damaging-property-market-and-cutting-tax/

johntottenham · 30/05/2017 12:09

Morning Jaremy, AS a vegetarian, I would assume you are keen on animal welfare. Yet I now have my doubts as on the radio today, it said the Lib Dems are introducing a ban on a caged hens and yet I could not find any evidence that you are aiming to do this. Would you introduce a ban on caged hens if you were PM and what further steps would you take to phase out battery farming?

imablackstarnotapopstar · 30/05/2017 12:09

Let the man get a word in 😂😂😂

ArseSpud · 30/05/2017 12:09

Jeremy is late to his own party GrinGrin

Condral · 30/05/2017 12:10

In your second leadership campaign John McDonnell said if you were reelected that Labour would get a minister for neurodiversity, that's never happened, is this something your planning on doing if Labour win or has this been dropped ?

Morningsea · 30/05/2017 12:10

I'm full of hope for this election, Jeremy. I know you can do this.

I'd like to ask, what piece of life advice would you give to a 24-year-old?

johntottenham · 30/05/2017 12:10

Sorry 'Jeremy', lol got over excited. Hope you'll forgive me, lol

SolomanDaisy · 30/05/2017 12:10

GrumpyGreta, Labour's corporation tax increase will not affect small businesses. In fact, Labour will cut taxes for small businesses and abolish the planned quarterly reporting.
