Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

How will you support small businesses who will be hit by increased nmw, increasing corporation tax and more bank holiday (no income yet still paying wages)?

Finola1step · 30/05/2017 11:49

Don't know if this had been asked already but...what is your favourite biscuit?

equokka · 30/05/2017 11:51

What makes you happiest in life? Do you consider yourself a happy person?

officerhinrika · 30/05/2017 11:54

Not a question, just to say that I listened to Woman's Hour today, as everyday and wanted to say well done for remaining calm and polite. I rarely write in but today I've tweeted and emailed to complain about the rude aggressive and hectoring interviewer. She's not who I would have expected to conduct it and let the programme and listeners down. It's hard to learn anything from an interview where it's all about them! So just as with Paxman last night please keep on giving us a glimpse of a more civilised way of discussing the issues.

LemonyFresh · 30/05/2017 11:54

Hi Jeremy,

As a U.K. Citizen with a non-EU husband, I would like to know what your stance is on the right of a family life in regards to non-EU spouses and family members? Will you make it more or less difficult for genuine, hard working families to be together in this country?

MaidOfStars · 30/05/2017 11:55

Last night, Paxman asserted that you had compromised some deeply-held moral principles for the good of the consensus and with a view to a longer game (example: Trident).

Which moral principles would you never compromise on, even in the face of widespread opposition?

HattiesBackpack · 30/05/2017 11:58

Excellent post by Thefairycaravan , i would also like to see those questions answered.

nakedscientist · 30/05/2017 11:59

Dear Jeremy,
Thank you for saying you will reverse the student fees policy. This alone has my vote.
Please promise that we will not have to suffer under another appalling Tory government.

Tenshidarkangel · 30/05/2017 11:59

Hi Jeremy,

I'm a 28 year old who earns £18K a year. As it stands I'm struggling to (without years of saving) to save for a deposit. The shared ownership scheme although good means mortgages on properties are still out of my league as a single individual.
How do you intend to help people like me, single (so don't have two incomes) and nearing 30 without a hope of buying anytime soon?
Many Thanks

perhapsiwill · 30/05/2017 11:59

Hi Jeremy. I became a member of the Labour Party so that I could vote for you as leader. I have every respect and admiration for you. Will you be offended if I vote for the Green Party as it seems to be the best way to keep the tories out in my constituency?

michellebradley84 · 30/05/2017 12:00

Hi Jeremy,

As a resident in NI I don't have the option to vote for Labour despite there being a Labour Party branch here. As such i'm left to vote for local politicians who either won't take their seat in Westminster or don't represent my values. Are there any plans to allow Labour candidates stand in NI?

FinallyHere · 30/05/2017 12:00

Sorry to interrupt....Does anyone know where i might find the link to the live ? Its now, isn't it?

GretchenFranklin · 30/05/2017 12:01

Its here Finally

Inkanta · 30/05/2017 12:01

Have just read the 120 page manifesto and I am pleasantly surprised. Please put it up on your twitter page. People need to read it.

MycatsaPirate · 30/05/2017 12:02

finally right here. On this thread

CaptainWarbeck · 30/05/2017 12:02

If you're elected PM, how will you deal with Trump and the US? Will you still try and preserve the 'special relationship' or will you, like Merkel, acknowledge that the situation has changed with Trump in power?

PS I will be voting for Labour. It's refreshing to have a new type of politician like yourself.

SolomanDaisy · 30/05/2017 12:02

Lemony, Labour will abolish the minimum income requirement for sponsoring foreign spouses.

SabsFabulous · 30/05/2017 12:02

DH works in the same building as MN towers and JC hadn't arrived yet!

johntottenham · 30/05/2017 12:03

AS a vegetarian, I would assume you are keen on animal welfare. Yet I now have my doubts as on the radio today, it said the Lib Dems are introducing a ban on a caged hens and yet I could not find any evidence that you are aiming to do this. Would you introduce a ban on caged hens if you were PM and what further steps would you take to phase out battery farming?

GinnyW · 30/05/2017 12:04

Hi, if you add VAT to private school fees, what will happen when all of the parents that can no longer afford to pay them send their children to state school? There are lots of parents who work hard to pay the fees for all sorts of reasons. They are not all mega wealthy. The numbers in state schools will increase dramatically and the system will struggle even more.

loubs56 · 30/05/2017 12:04

Good Morning Jeremy.
I have recently lost my job in a school due to the cuts. I would love to perdue a career in child minding however the Tories "free 30 hrs funding" is proving to be a sticking point.

I think that your universal childcare policy is a fab idea! However at present the government funding is below the childminding hourly rate. Can you tell me how you plan to address this?

Kind regards and good luck in the election.

HoneyDragon · 30/05/2017 12:04

Cool Sabs I didn't know we have an inside man. Ask your dh how many empty Gin bottles he's sees in the recycling bins Wink

FinallyHere · 30/05/2017 12:04

Ah, thank you mycats

Its often the simplest things that flummox me

Inkanta · 30/05/2017 12:05

Yes I would like to visualise how your relationship with Trump would pan out?

KateMumsnet · 30/05/2017 12:05

Sorry for the slight delay folks - Jeremy's just making his way up to the office and then we'll be getting started asap.
