GOK WAN: Live Webchat - Friday 11 October, 1.45-2.45pm

We'll still be sweeping up the biscuit crumbs left from the Jennifer Saunders webchat as we prepare for the return of Gok Wan to Mumsnet Towers on Friday 11 October at 1.45pm. Since his last visit in Summer 2010, Gok has produced 2 cookery books and his latest, Gok's Wok is published this week.

Gok shares many of his family's traditional recipes but gives them a modern twist as he teaches us how to cook, simple, fast meals with flavour and a splash of Gok originality. Chapters cover all occasions from lunches to dinner parties and include curries, stir-fries, noodles, salads, soups and desserts.

Join Gok on Friday at 1.45pm or post a question to him in advance to this thead and you'll be entered into a draw to win a SIGNED copy of Gok's Wok.

We have also teamed up with Gok and Sainsbury's to host a live cookalong on Google+. On Wednesday 16 October at 7pm Gok will be making two super-delicious dishes from his new book and he'd love you to join him in cooking them. Find out more here.

He should have gone to NetMums? I really don't think most people are aware of the divide between NetMums and Musmsnet as we are. I bet even NetMums aren't so aware if it! Grin

ShadeofViolet · 11/10/2013 15:09

I bet they are Grin

reelingintheyears · 11/10/2013 15:10

I bet they bloody are Spelt!

Spelt · 11/10/2013 15:10

LRD what topic? He was here to talk about cooking.

mignonette · 11/10/2013 15:10

I never said it was laudable but how was this an adult way of tackling that? I would have ignored the snide childish mean posts on here simply because ignoring is its own 'weapon'.

Tackle the people who commission these shows because you are talking to the Monkey not the organ grinder here.

reelingintheyears · 11/10/2013 15:10

Ooops, x post Violet Grin

Spelt · 11/10/2013 15:10

Maybe they are! Grin

MarmaladeBatkins · 11/10/2013 15:11

Mignoette, you know I love you as a poster, I do. But I disagree here;

"here was some embarrassing childish behaviour on this thread towards a man who appears to be essentially decent."

Google 'How to feel bad naked'.

MarmaladeBatkins · 11/10/2013 15:13

That's because you're an ego-massager, Chaos.

And you sweeten everyone up with naice LDC. Wink

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/10/2013 15:14

spelt - someone already said, the Webchat was linked to in S&B, too.

Personally, my impression is that his cookery stuff is as exploitative and opportunistic as his treatment of women - and my first question was querying that, because from what I see in his book, it's extremely patronizing.

But I don't see why people shouldn't raise issues relating to his much better-known shows with women. Clearly, that is mostly why he is well known.

Marmalade

I'll have a look and a think on it.

I do wonder why we expect a level of nutritional expertise from a man who is selling a cookery book with some recipes he likes. I wouldn't have thought that Gok would be in any way an authority on feeding children unless his book presents him this way- I haven't seen it.

MarmaladeBatkins · 11/10/2013 15:29

Hmmm, I agree with you about that. We could all of us write a book of our favourite recipes and not be held accountable in answering nutrition-related questions.

But I don't really understand what he was here for? Confused If it was just to plug his book, there must be other ways to do it?

reelingintheyears · 11/10/2013 15:30

So, hands up who's going to ask for his book for Crimbo?

I think that midwifeandmum is a shoo-in for winning the book. Wink Grin

Hullygully · 11/10/2013 15:33

I think guests should be told they come on at their own risk and be prepared to deal with whatever is thrown at them. Just like real life, especially as it's actually easier than real life because it isn't even face t face and they can ignore any questions they don't like.

MarmaladeBatkins · 11/10/2013 15:34

Oh look what the cat dragged in it is HullyBully.

reelingintheyears · 11/10/2013 15:34

Then she will be a very lucky midwife.

mignonette · 11/10/2013 15:34

I would imagine that MN is now part of the standard publicity 'beat' and the publicists are concerned with getting publicity regardless of its nature.

I do wonder why so many publicists are so crap though at matching client to audience. They really do seem to be a bunch of amateurs (think JO too).

MarmaladeBatkins · 11/10/2013 15:34

"I think guests should be told they come on at their own risk"

You make it sound like they're entering a gladiator contest...
