It's not often we get Hollywood glamour gracing Mumsnet Towers but we're rolling the red carpet out on Monday lunchtime, 5 March, when we're joined by Goldie Hawn.

Her legendary Hollywood roles include Private Benjamin, The First Wives Club and Death Becomes Her. Her performance in the 1969 film, Cactus Flower, won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Goldie is visiting the UK to promote her book, 10 Mindful Minutes, and the launch of The Hawn Foundation in the UK.

The foundation has developed the MindUP programme to help children reach their full potential and aims to teach children how their minds work and how their thoughts and feelings affect their behaviour. The programme has been implemented in schools in the United States, Canada, Australia and, more recently, the UK.

Chat to Goldie live from 1-2pm on Monday 5 March, or post your question in advance here.

Thanks

you can't teach happiness,it's not reducible to components that one learns.nor does one acquire it through habituation or practice

cbt doesn't teach happiness it is a cognitive and behavioral model of using adaptive strategies and interventions to reduce anxieties.by thinking about the

situation
thoughts
emotions
physical feelings
actions

and working through how you can alter an outcome

maybe instead of trying to teach happiness to our children we should discuss that there are unhappy periods too, and acknowledge some strategies for that. I don't like notion of teaching happiness, it cannot be taught or imbued

TheAlmightyBob · 03/03/2012 09:46

Gosh. Goldie Hawn Shock

That MindUp thingy looks interesting.

Do you see mainstream British schools using it?

TrinityRhino · 03/03/2012 10:06

I love you goldie.

What's the one best thing I can do to help my girls heal? They are 11,6 and 5 and lost their dad aug 2009.
And, if I can cheekily ask you another, what one thing could I do to help with my depression?

Thanks, you're fab Grin

gazzalw · 03/03/2012 10:07

SIL would like to know whether you have ever considered doing a follow-up movie to Private Benjamin which has to go down in history as a comedy classic and one of your best?

Have you become an honorary Brit now you have a half-British grandson (congratulations by the way!)?

TrinityRhino · 03/03/2012 10:08

Ooh I loved death becomes her and bird on a wire. You and mel.... Fantastic film GrinGrin

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 10:38

Hi Goldie, I saw you on Graham Norton, your figure is great, how often do you work out, and what volume of food do you eat? So please give proper examples, not oh I eat burgers (meaning three times a year you eat two bites), a proper example is a salad of leaves, cucumber and pepper, covered in fat free dressing, the plate is four inches circunfrance!

I am trying to help my teen dd be mindful of the reality of the portion sizes and exercise habits of the famous really are, she thinks when the famous say they eat chocolate all the time it doesnt mean they eat two cubes once a month, she loves Kate by the way!

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 10:39

Circumference
Blush

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 10:47

Goldie, another question.

Do you eat mindful, -or throw yourself on the sofa watching a movie with a bowl of popcorn-- focusing on taste, texture and look of your food slowly chewing each bite? Or do you Kirk and the family chat and laugh as you eat?

Faverolles · 03/03/2012 11:18

Wow! Goldie Hawn! :o
I grew up watching your films - Overboard and Housesitter are personal favourites!

Which role is the one you look back on with fondest memories, and was that because of the people you worked with, or something else?

OlympicGoldPennies · 03/03/2012 11:56

Hello Goldie,

Where do you keep your Oscar? Pride of place in the living room, wrapped up safe and snug in the loft or on a shelf in the toilet?

ILoveAFullFridge · 03/03/2012 12:19

I disagree, scottishmummy. CBT has certainly influenced my happiness - if only by helping me deal with my depression. Of course we shouldn't expect to be happy all the time, but understanding how to cope and how to create the ability to be happy, would surely make it easier for people to weather unhappy times.

Two of my dc are naturally happy people, and the ways they deal with setbacks and challenges are completely different to the way my other dc deals with them - or rather, doesn't!

Why shouldn't my defeatist child be able to learn the skills that my happy children apply instinctively?

BerryLellow · 03/03/2012 12:28

Hello Goldie, my dad is a huge fan of yours so consequently private benjamin, overboard etc are favourites here.

I can't think of anything sensible to ask you at the moment, so will be back :)

NowThenWreck · 03/03/2012 12:44

Hello Goldie, my Hair Icon.

I love that bathroom sex scene in Private Benjamin, where the husband says "Lift your back leg" and Judy says "I don't have a back leg!"
It still makes me laugh every time.

I'll be back with a question when I have looked at the link.

TanteRose · 03/03/2012 13:50

Hi Goldie! I LOVED watching the repeats of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in when they aired in the UK in the 80s (?) Grin You and Lily Tomlin and everyone always looked to be having so much fun!

Was watching clips on Youtube earlier, and realised that Davy Jones and the Monkees appeared a lot Sad

also Peter Sellers, who once tried to explain the game of cricket to you, and you said "that's the way we elect our president" Grin

and NOW I come to my question - do you think Obama will get in for a second term?

"say goodnight, Dick" "Goodnight, Dick!" Grin

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 03/03/2012 15:31

Claim to Fame

I have the SAME BIRTHDAY as Goldie

I love the film Overboard, I always watch it when I need cheering up.

The book looks interesting, not the sort of thing I would normally read but it has fabulous reviews. Will it be available on Kindle?

cornsilkalala · 03/03/2012 18:11

Hello Goldie Smile
Are you meeting Michael Gove? I don't think he'll like Mind Up, but don't let that worry you as he's a bit of a tool. Actually more than a bit.

cocolepew · 03/03/2012 21:38

The real Goldie Hawn!? Good grief that's brilliant.

I'm off to read the links now.

cocolepew · 03/03/2012 21:46

Goldie, is there an optimum age for using the programme?

My Dd is 14 and suffers from anxiety and she struggles to have empathy with others. I feel that she struggles so much with her anxiety she doesn't have room for any other emotions, it that makes sense Confused.

would mindup help her, do you think?

Thank you.

southeastastra · 03/03/2012 21:48

goldie are you aware of the playwork principles and the thought that children would be calmer in class if they had longer and more recess periods?

being calm would naturally come if children were allowed to 'run about a bit' more at school

ItsaMissTerri · 03/03/2012 23:14

Hi Goldie...I watched you on the Graham Norton show and joined in with your giggles at the picture of The Queen with the photoshopped Angelina Jolie leg!
I loved your what you were wearing and my question is....where did you get the gorgeous cream cardigan!
Thanks xx

Solo · 04/03/2012 03:45

Hi Goldie Blush .

I'd love to know your secret in staying so trim please (which has already been asked...sooo).

Have you made a return to India in recent times?

Do you still wear heels?

Private Benjamin actually had me planning to run away and join the army after my split with husband. Think I'm glad I didn't, but you certainly played the part well enough to get me planning to follow 'your' footsteps! Grin

20SomethingmumUK · 04/03/2012 09:48

I want to know how she looks so young! I look older than Goldie and I'm 30!

What was her favourite film to act in?

Does she wish she'd have been considered for more serious roles like her contempories?

Who was the best leading man she got to snog with on screen?

Total squeal for this one- well done MNHQ x

GreatBallsOfFluff · 04/03/2012 09:53

WOW real royalty

Squeals like a six year old girl in a sweet shop

So in awe I can't think of a proper question .......

Faints

GreatBallsOfFluff · 04/03/2012 09:56

Oooh Goldie are you planning on visiting Matt's home town as I live less than 5 miles away and would love for you to come for a coffee Smile

I love you in Death Becomes Her, and Private Benjamin and ..... oh everything you've done.

PosiePumblechook · 04/03/2012 10:00

Why do we think happiness should be part of a curriculum? Surely if you teach children to read, write, maths and be respectful with boundaries happiness will come? French children are very happy without pastoral nonsense.
