On Friday 26th November between 1.30 and 2.30 pm Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are joining us for a live chat.

Torvill and Dean became world famous at the 1984 Winter Olympics when they became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time, scoring maximum points for dance to Ravel's Bolero. (If you've never seen it or haven't seen it since the 80's it worth a look - we've been marvelling at it this morning on YouTube at Mumsnet HQ)

They were enticed out of retirement to take part in ITV's Dancing On Ice which begins again in early 2011. The Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2010 DVD is out on November 29th and Tickets for the Dancing On Ice Live Tour 2011 are now on sale from Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2011
Join us on Friday to chat Jayne and Christopher and if you're unable to make it, send your questions to them in advance of the chat to this thread.

Oh cooooool.

Whenever I take the children skating the only skates for hire are hockey skates with no toe picks which I just find really horrible to skate on after having used figure skates when I learned to skate as a child. Why is this and is it worth getting my own pair if skates for sporadic / festive family skating?

Oh, lovely, welcome to MN Chris and Jayne! Before I ask my question, I just want to let you know how much my ds1 (9) enjoys watching Dancing on Ice - we travelled 200 miles to one of the live shows in 2009, and he really enjoys it (and it's taught him how to do decimals through the scoring!). One of my earliest memories is watching you win the World Championships with the Barnum routine, and I still cry when I watch it!!!

My question is this; have you made a conscious decision to do more 'disco' type routines on the show rather than the more 'gliding' type dances (I haven't put that very well, but I hope you know what I mean) - I do enjoy the disco type ones, but I think the ones that I enjoy the most are the ones where you really glide across the ice and the speed across the ice is where the difference between the celebs and the pros is most obvious, and most impressive!

LilyBolero · 24/11/2010 13:14

(And I know we're only allowed 1 question, but could I sneak in one more please?) - what do you feel about the cuts to the Sports Partnership funding for schools?

Rockbird · 24/11/2010 13:41

OMG OMG

Rockbird · 24/11/2010 13:50

My question... (as well as echoing what Pennies says about the truly awful moulded plastic hire skates with hockey blades.

I'd like to ask how Jayne got involved with the Demelza charity.

I'd also like to know if your children skate and are they good at it! :)

Eek!

Fimbo · 24/11/2010 13:53

Who out of all the celebrities on Dancing on Ice has been the best skater in your opinion?

jenniferlynn · 24/11/2010 15:46

can't think straight enough to ask a question but just wanted to say how much i love watching you both-i was 5 when bolero was danced and i remember watching it mesmerised as was the most beautiful thing i'd seen. Thank you for that. Enjoy your chat and if i can pull myself together i might come back and post a question :)
