On Friday 26th November between 1.30 and 2.30 pm Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are joining us for a live chat.

Torvill and Dean became world famous at the 1984 Winter Olympics when they became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time, scoring maximum points for dance to Ravel's Bolero. (If you've never seen it or haven't seen it since the 80's it worth a look - we've been marvelling at it this morning on YouTube at Mumsnet HQ)

They were enticed out of retirement to take part in ITV's Dancing On Ice which begins again in early 2011. The Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2010 DVD is out on November 29th and Tickets for the Dancing On Ice Live Tour 2011 are now on sale from Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2011
Join us on Friday to chat Jayne and Christopher and if you're unable to make it, send your questions to them in advance of the chat to this thread.

sorry, another question if I may.

What are our chances in the ice-dance competitions in the London Olympics, and who are the young hopefuls that we should be wtaching out for a cheering on?

And are they getting all the support from the government that they need, in your opinions? If not, what else is needed that would get GB to the very top?

silverfrog · 26/11/2010 11:58

Blush another one from me too

what do you think of the revised scoring system now used in competitions?

JoTillo · 26/11/2010 12:16

Hi Jayne and Chris!
How do you manage to balance such a busy work schedule and the demands of celebrity with being family people? I've always been impressed that you've managed to keep your families out of the media. And yet at the same time, your dedication to skating, and to your charity work is inspirational.
Thanks for continuing to share your talent, I love to watch you skate!
Jo

Hi Jayne and Chris,

What keeps you motivated and inspired to keep performing and pushing the boundaries of skating e.g. developing Dancing On Ice, after all these years?

Can't wait to see you both back on the ice for the new series of DOI :)

Brina.

JoTillo · 26/11/2010 12:28

whispers WreckoftheHesperus, Ice Dancing will be in the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014... not the Summer Olympics in London 2012!
:)

Partyof52010 · 26/11/2010 12:38

Oh how exciting!!
My question is this (sorry if its already been asked) Which celebs would you most like to take part in DOI and why?
Ooh it feels like chritmas Grin

silverfrog · 26/11/2010 13:07

And me again...

Much as I love DOI, I do find the obvious focus on celebrity side of it annoying, with a "baddie" judge, and the whole set up to get the public voting for the underdog etc. Have you ever thought about doing a similar series, but with ordinary people rather than celebrities? (am happy to offer myservices Grin). This has worked well with other formats such as The Choir, etc, and in-famous people have just as much of a story to tell about their experience etc, and would make it all the more interesting for me.

silverfrog · 26/11/2010 13:10

Sorry about typos - am posting from my phone while waiting for dd1 to come out of school Grin

princessicebunny · 26/11/2010 13:19

I hope not...

ChristopherDean · 26/11/2010 13:33

@Pennies

Oh cooooool.

Whenever I take the children skating the only skates for hire are hockey skates with no toe picks which I just find really horrible to skate on after having used figure skates when I learned to skate as a child. Why is this and is it worth getting my own pair if skates for sporadic / festive family skating?

I don't know why they just have hockey skates, I think they're catering for the kids most of the time. I think you could buy a cheap pair of skates and have them for those sporadic occasions, I think it's worth doing that.

GreyGhost · 26/11/2010 13:34

Question to both of you:-

Neither of you usually Judge, so how do you feel that Chris' appearance of Battle of the Blades went?

hannah19 · 26/11/2010 13:35

You guys are the best ice dancers EVER did you ever find it hard to live up to that stereotype?? (you are of course the best ice dancers there ever is and ever will be) xx

Brina.

Dancing on Ice is like a second life for us, we grew tired 1998, and then eight years later we were asked the possibility of developing a skating TV show. And at the beginning we thought it was a crazy idea, but we liked dealing with crazy! And after the first series, it was really exciting and we were ready for the next series and just kept going on from there.
