On Friday 26th November between 1.30 and 2.30 pm Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are joining us for a live chat.

Torvill and Dean became world famous at the 1984 Winter Olympics when they became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time, scoring maximum points for dance to Ravel's Bolero. (If you've never seen it or haven't seen it since the 80's it worth a look - we've been marvelling at it this morning on YouTube at Mumsnet HQ)

They were enticed out of retirement to take part in ITV's Dancing On Ice which begins again in early 2011. The Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2010 DVD is out on November 29th and Tickets for the Dancing On Ice Live Tour 2011 are now on sale from Dancing on Ice Live Tour 2011
Join us on Friday to chat Jayne and Christopher and if you're unable to make it, send your questions to them in advance of the chat to this thread.

@JoTillo

What is it like working with your best friend for over 30 years?

It's been great and the fact that we are still working together is a real bonus.

ChristopherDean · 26/11/2010 13:51

@LilyBolero

Oh, lovely, welcome to MN Chris and Jayne! Before I ask my question, I just want to let you know how much my ds1 (9) enjoys watching Dancing on Ice - we travelled 200 miles to one of the live shows in 2009, and he really enjoys it (and it's taught him how to do decimals through the scoring!). One of my earliest memories is watching you win the World Championships with the Barnum routine, and I still cry when I watch it!!!

My question is this; have you made a conscious decision to do more 'disco' type routines on the show rather than the more 'gliding' type dances (I haven't put that very well, but I hope you know what I mean) - I do enjoy the disco type ones, but I think the ones that I enjoy the most are the ones where you really glide across the ice and the speed across the ice is where the difference between the celebs and the pros is most obvious, and most impressive!

We haven't made any conscious decision to do more upbeat tempos than slower (gliding) routines. Sometimes it's dictated by if we're skating to a singer that's on the show, or a group opening number is usually more exciting when they're upbeat as an opening as opposed to slow and downbeat.

But it's registered in my head that you'd like more gliding numbers!

:D

hannah19 · 26/11/2010 13:51

YOu have done soooo many amazing routines on DOI what song would you most like to do a routine too?? xx

JayneTorvill · 26/11/2010 13:52

@hannah19

Who would you guys most like to work with who you havent yet?? xx

Fred Astaire would be my choice too if he were alive

ZaraC · 26/11/2010 13:52

When will you guys be tweeting again? :D

Katie93 · 26/11/2010 13:52

Do you ever get frustrated with your popularity especially during the tour with some many fans trying to meet you?

Partyof52010 · 26/11/2010 13:53

My DH tells a really longwinded story about when he was watching panto and Lionel Blair came on and announced 'Torvil and Dean have won gold' and everyone cheered. I'm assuming Lionel Blair was in the panto and didn't just randomly arrive on stage. Anyway. Just thought I'd share that. (FYI I wasn't born Grin)

[quote MmeLindt]

Hi Jayne and Christopher.

My husband is German and was totally unaware of the '84 Olympic win - or rather not as indoctrinated as the Brits are. He was quite bemused when I started singing along with Bolero

bridlah · 26/11/2010 13:53

I'm in agreement with LilyBolero - more slow numbers would be fab especially to something like 'Make You Feel My Love' by Adele :)

ZaraC · 26/11/2010 13:53

If you's could pick anyone else to skate with apart from eachother who would it be and why? x

RozzyJnC · 26/11/2010 13:53

Your such amazing legends :) who is your biggest inspiration? :) xx

JayneTorvill · 26/11/2010 13:54

@hannah19

YOu have done soooo many amazing routines on DOI what song would you most like to do a routine too?? xx

We are always listening for new songs when they come out. We've enjoyed skating to some great songs over the years.

We've used a lot of Michael Buble songs for routines in recent years as we enjoy them.

ChristopherDean · 26/11/2010 13:54

@PussinJimmyChoos

This is mumsnet...it must be asked to Jane......how did you manage all that energetic skating when flo was in town?!!!

I would be freaking about tampon ishoos on the ice!

I've never found it a problem....

hannah19 · 26/11/2010 13:55

You and Michael Buble songs just kinda go together would love to see him perform live on there with you guys x

JoTillo · 26/11/2010 13:55

I also agree with LilyBolero - love the slow numbers :) I guess that's what I had in mind when I asked about working with your best friend, you have a real connection. Is it always easy and natural, or do you still have to work at it after so long?

Katie93 · 26/11/2010 13:55

Seen as your have used so many Michael Buble songs this year we're guessing you really like his music and we're very pleased you do because we all love him too!!

Will you be using them again this year at all? I know its not always up to you but it would be good if you did

kc9music · 26/11/2010 13:55

It would be so cool if you were able to skate with him (Buble) singing.

ZaraC · 26/11/2010 13:56

princessicebunny · 26/11/2010 13:56

Jayne I see you've said you love watching Only way is Essex, are you team Lauren or Team Lucy?

ChristopherDean · 26/11/2010 13:56

@billysmummy12345

chris,
would you ever consider wearing you costume from fire and ice again?
you and your red thong would make GREAT sunday night tv! xxx

It would be banned from Sunday night TV - and some 25 years on it wouldn't be quite as pretty!

emm78 · 26/11/2010 13:56

Hi Jayne and Chris. You clearly have an awesome friendship. What do you think are the secrets to its longevity?

JayneTorvill · 26/11/2010 13:56

@ZaraC

If you's could pick anyone else to skate with apart from eachother who would it be and why? x

I couldn't imagine skating with anyone else!

JoTillo · 26/11/2010 13:56

Music wise, what do you think about Josh Groban... his new track Hidden Away seems like a great choice for the new season? ;)

DidEinsteinsMum · 26/11/2010 13:57

Welcome to you both.

Do you get a say in the filming of DOI and do you ever get frustrated by the way it is shot? it gets very frustrating that you cant see the footwork very much as this technical ability is such an integral part of why a level espressive skater is kept in over a more pleasing presentation.

TIA
