My best friend at secondary school was abducted and never seen again. She vanished in a spell that cannot have been more than 3 minutes because that it how long it took to walk between our houses. I remember that the parents were (strongly) suspected but nothing was ever proved.

The young couple who purchased the house next door to us had lived there for less than 2 weeks before a removal van arrived to move them out again.

Dave M had worked in the dept for 3+ years but then took a new job in Liverpool. He gave all of us a new but false address and a fictitious phone number.

Sorry, not your MIL trying to let me know - but someone very close to me.

I am not a medium!

Wicked thread.

I kept having panicky dreams about DS getting hurt and then getting seriously ill. He ended up in hospital for 6 weeks with a broken leg (the call I got at work was heart stopping and it took me over 2 hours to get back from work to the hospital ). Then the following year He was hospitalised with meningitis.

I also kept having panicky feeling that there was going to be a fire on my block of flats that came into my flat. I was so scared and paranoid that I would go to sleep every weekend worried about being woken up to flames. The fire escape was also due for replacing so maybe that was why I was getting like that.
Cue a few months later and the woman on the bottom floor (3 floor block with me at the top) set the place alight by trying to cook with a propane gas canister at midnight! The fire was mainly in the stairwell as someone passing had tried to drag the flaming canister out so our only exit was the fire escape.

The next day the guy from the management company that own the block said that the fire escape should have gone the week before and the Fire Chief said that 10 mins more of the fire burning and the block could have exploded as the canister was spitting flames on the main gas pipe!!

I would have said that it was me being paranoid and bringing on these occurrences, but each of them were out of my control.

Oh, I also lost a piece of angelite that was given to me. I searched everywhere as soon as I dropped it. Nowhere to be found. Then when I visited then DP at work one night I found it on the floor in his office!

There have been other odd things that still stand out to me but they would take too long to explain and I have already done an essay! (inability to condense information )

My sister told me that one night she woke up and saw our grandmother (on my mother's side) looking at her from the foot of the bed. Apparently she (Nanny) nodded, then said 'I'm just going to check the children' and drifted through the door.

Moments later my sister heard the cot mobile play a few bars of its song. She got up to check on the girls but they were sleeping soundly.

My mum says she has seen her mother quite often and also attributes several spur-of-the-moment decisions to her (e.g. going into a shop she never usually goes into and finding exactly what she wants). Mum also told me, when I was pg with ds2 (before we found out the sex) that I should be looking at blue clothes, not pink- even though we were hoping for(and I felt that we were having) a girl. This info came from nan too.

And a small one of my own...

A couple of years ago I was taking a nap. I was in the house on my own. I must have been in that half-asleep state when I quite clearly heard the sound of someone shuffling along the carpet. Bizarrely, I sat up and started reciting some church ritual in Latin (even at the time I was aware enough in half my mind to be shocked) and the sound stopped, whereupon I lay down.

I did Latin at school, it's true- but never any kind of church ritual and I'm not a Catholic or High Church goer, so have no idea where it came from.

Oh I forgotten another weird-ish one

Was on holiday in a cottage up near Oban in Scotland. Looking through the guestbook that people sign to say what a great time they had etc.

Found an entry that had identical handwriting to my Dad's - looked at the details of who had left the comments - and their surname was the same as my own!! Never did find out if it was a family member or not. Took pictures of the entry to show my Dad, even he was amazed to see 'his' handwriting done by someone else. Unfortunately, lost the pictures in the big hard drive crash of '08 so will probably never know now...

At 2pm on Tues Sept 11th 2001. I got back to my desk after lunch and said to collegues 'I hate Tuesdays nothing ever happens wish something sensational would happen'.

pedrothellama · 25/05/2010 15:23

The couple who lived in our house before had the same first names as DP and I.
The woman even shared my middle name - which is not exactly a common name.

The other strange thing that happened to me was I went through a period of 'knowing' when a woman was pregnant, even before she did.

One day I was at work and we buzzed the receptionist to send the next client up. This client had announced her pregnancy a couple of weeks before and as she started to walk up the stairs I felt this wave of sadness and told my boss 'She has lost the baby'. The first thing she told us was she had lost the baby a few days before.

My boss gave me a very strange look.

Another one, I had my DD as a single mum and only got to know her paternal family after she was born. When I was packing up to move I looked through some old photos that I hadn't seen for 17 years or so and saw a photo of her much younger looking nan, I was in the same room as her but had never seen the photo or her before. Spooky.

Got stopped when on my way home from the pub one night with my (then) boyfriend by a man who asked em to give my boyfriend a piggy back. Did so, as it seemed like a good idea at the time. This was in London.

Some time later a friend mentioned that she had been with her boyfriend in Bristol on their way home one night had been stopped by a man who had asked her to give her boyfriend a piggy back. She did. We thought it was a little weird and a coincidence.

Later on again there was a report in the paper about a man who had stopped a couple and asked the girl to give the bloke a piggy back. She refused. The couple were sexually assaulted.

I think of it as not only a strange coincidence but also possibly a very lucky escape.

I dreamt that Diana died in car crash, abroad, near some water and it was suspicious. I woke up and a minute later my boss rang and told me Diana had been in a car crash and was dead.

VengefulKitty · 25/05/2010 16:09

Philmassive - that is freaky!

ArseHolio · 25/05/2010 16:18

My first proper love was in the Army. His Army number was exactly the same as my home phone number when I was a child.

I used to be in the police and knew my warrent number and shouldar number before i was issued it.

Debs75 · 25/05/2010 16:23

When Diana died my DD woke up screaming and refused to settle. We went downstairs and on the telly was the breaking news that there had been a crash and she was critical.

My Mum dreamt about her and her sister on a plane when suddenly the front section broke off. A couple of weeks later the plane crashed at Lockerbie.

She also had a dream about sinking on a cruise ship the night the Zebrugge ferry sank.

When 9/11 happened she didn't seem surprised but is adamant she didn't see it coming.
A
Abouteve What a thing to say, you must of been mortified.

southeastastra · 25/05/2010 16:25

recently googled my son's name on google images and found a picture of a child who looked exactly the same as my son, with the same name but from 40 years ago. that was freaky

secunda · 25/05/2010 16:30

DH's birthday is the same as the sort code on my debit card.

Remotew · 25/05/2010 16:32

Debs 75, yes it was a horrible feeling, I wouldn't have wished for that.

LouMacca · 25/05/2010 16:33

Last year I went shopping to the town where my parents lived 40 years ago (its about half an hour drive away). Got chatting to a couple in Starbucks and it turned out their daughter lived in my parents old house!!

LittleWhiteWolf · 25/05/2010 16:35

Read half of these last night about 1am and some of these stories have haunted me all day.

Not mine, but my mum: she had a double lung transplant last year and before that she suffered from two collapsed lungs around her birthday (not long before Xmas). She nearly died when she crashed and literally just stopped breathing. Later she told me and my dad that she saw her (deceased for 3 years) father during this and he shouted at her, something like: "stop messing around and bloody well breathe!" She was very close with her dad and as he was in the police force all his life you tended to listen when he spoke!
It gave me comfort that even if we couldnt reach her at those times, there was someone special looking after her.

I dont consider this to be that strange, but I dreamt of my DD for years before I even met DH and got pg. I would regularly dream of a little girl who looked exactly like my DD. We didnt find out until she was born that she was a girl, but I was so sure of thefact while I was pg that I convinced everyone that she was a girl--and she was of course!

When I was about 9 weeks pregnant with DS I had a bloodtest to determine the baby's sex (I'm a haemophilia carrier). A week later I rang the hospital for the results, and was told the consultant would ring me. I was sitting on my bed waiting for him to call and I suddenly had a vision of the word "boy" written on a piece of paper. Consultant rang 10 minutes later to say the result showed 98% positive I was carrying a boy, which I absent-mindedly wrote on the letter I'd got the number from.

My grandfather died in 2004. Last year I had a dream that he visited me. In the dream I was initially afraid because I knew that he was dead, but he calmed me down and we had a chat about everything that had happened since he died. I dreamt about him again a few months later, but this time I seemed to "know" that he was just back for an update

SUPportblacksENGLand · 25/05/2010 17:03

I am so loving this thread.

I'm an artist and was feeling a bit down with creative block. Getting commissions but nothing very exciting (pet portraits - you get the idea). Was feeling really low and telling DH about the amazing stuff i'd done at Uni - stuff mostly with oil pastels etc. and 'where was that girl now'

A knock on the door a few minutes later was the postman with a parcel. My friend from Uni who is Japanese saw some vibrant oil pastels you just don't get here, in Tokyo and thought of me.

It was a pretty 'wow' moment (and i haven't done a pet portrait since).

The night before my parents moved out of my childhood home I dreamt that my grandfather (who we'd lived with before he died) sat on the end of my bed and told me that there was going to be a horrible car accident and that I wasn't to worry because although things would be very bad and my family would be hurt, they would be ok in the end. He repeated it a few times. Woke up and although a bit freaked didn't think anything of it. 2 weeks later and I got a phone call saying that my parents and brother had been in a terrible car accident and were in intensive care. Although very badly injured they have all recovered.

On a slightly lighter note- I went to pick DS up from nursery to find all the children in a circle round one of the nursery nurses, singing a little song that "X is having a baby boy, X is having a baby boy" I said congratulations and she replied that she was definately not pg but they had been doing it to her for days. A week later and rather white faced she told me that she had done a test purely as the children were still singing their song at her. She was pg and 8 months later had a little boy.

The house I lived in as a young teenager now houses the family of my best friend's at the time daughter's best friend.

Lulumaam · 25/05/2010 18:51

Met a medium the other week , we were just chatting, not even exchanged names and she said ' what was wrong with those floorboards, why did you rip them all up , and what's wrong with all that carpet..?' cue me looking like this.. as we'd all the carpets out of the house when we bought it , ripped up a load of floorboards too..

she also told me loads of other things, that she could have not possibly known, including about the haunting in our house ! and my DD can 'see' and talk to spirits , which i kind of knew after the ghost incident and that DD will see 'colurs'// not sure what that means.

it was spooky, but comforting. and so random, which made it stranger, but i am a believer

SUPportblacksENGLand · 25/05/2010 21:26

Ok i think i've worked it out...

So, in every town there is a Brownie of a certain age and look, she has also been given an unusual name to identify her to her species.

She i also quite strict in her Brownie teachings and is CLEARLY NOT THE SAME ONE BUT A CLONE.....

She is always the same age hence you experiencing her once while younger and then once more when you were older.

So she is an Extra Terrestrial being, sent from 'Head Brownie' to oversee all Brownieness on earth...

That's got to be it right?
Right?

I went to visit my sister in a remote town in Oman. I was introduced to her neighbour from Glasgow. I went home and the next week started work in an IT drop-in centre, 240 computers. I was asked if I would work late as there was no-one else. I wandered about as I was a bit bored and started speaking to a woman. She told me she had to get her IT skills up as her husband had left her and was now working in Oman. She told me the name of the company he worked for and I said that I recognised it as the lorries passed my sisters apartment every day. I asked his name and I said I thought it sounded familiar. I realised it was my sisters next door neighbour. I gave her photos the following week so she could show her two daughters where their dad was living.
