To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

Reader...... I told her to leave. (I HATE THAT)

When someone starts their post with 'kindly............' and then goes on to say something that is anything but kind. Most of these posts should start with 'I know I sound like a cunt but.....'

A woman using Mama bear and Papa bear to describe herself and her DH.

Life hacks. Sets my teeth on edge.

'Wow. Just wow.' (Only see that on here!)

'So, this happened.....' Or 'we did a thing!' (to announce an event or something happening!)

'Use your words' makes me want to SCREEEEEEEAM! It's so patronising!

'Let's slay!'

'Put your big girls pants on.' No I wont. Fuck off! 😆

'I have no skin in the game!' EWWW! WTAF ... WHY?!

'Smashed it!'

Boils my piss makes me laugh! 😆 I don't mind that one.

And I am guilty of saying 'can I get........?' Blush

I know people can't help it, but I want to loose some weight does my head in. (It's LOSE!) And also 'could of' and 'your silly!'

Wintersgirl · 01/07/2024 21:46

Anyone notice that Santander bank have dropped "Hollibobs" from the Ant and Dec advert? They must have had complaints from us lot because it was dropped quite sharpish! I must admit I was screaming at the TV when it aired, anyone using that word needs to go to prison...like forever.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 01/07/2024 21:47

To be fair at the end of any standard sentences where it has absolutely no fucking context!!

totalnamechanger · 01/07/2024 21:47

Anyone using ‘ick’. None of us here are 5

TivoliGardens · 01/07/2024 21:47

Kerb (UK) not curb (North America)
Set foot not step foot
If you fall outdoors you land on the ground not the floor

WhichEllie · 01/07/2024 21:48

I had never seen or heard the phrase “picky bits” before joining Mumsnet and frankly I think I could have gone the rest of my life without it.

Seeleyboo · 01/07/2024 21:48

Unaliving.....you mean dead

Busybeemumm · 01/07/2024 21:48

Are you for real?? 😡

Summerx · 01/07/2024 21:48

Deep dive.

Makes my skin crawl!

ToWhitToWhoo · 01/07/2024 21:48

'Pre-loved'

'Made with love'

'Thinking outside the box'

'It boils my piss'

'Milestone/ big/ significant birthday' (not so much the phrase as the whole concept)

'Feeling blessed'

HipHipWhoRay · 01/07/2024 21:49

‘Making memories’ is just the worst. Apart from anything else you have fuck all control of what you remember and what you forget in longer term.

Charlize43 · 01/07/2024 21:49

'Nippleeepoos'

Hate that! My ex-boss used to use it: 'Then he grabbed my...'

Fizbosshoes · 01/07/2024 21:49

This isn't a saying but @OptimismvsRealism , when you're in charge, can eating a kit kat without breaking it, also be a criminal offence?

lovemycbf · 01/07/2024 21:49

When someone gets in touch and says they are "touching base" as they haven't heard from you for a while....I hate it

EnjoythemoneyJane · 01/07/2024 21:49

Oh, and while I’m at it: ‘everything’ - “OMG that dress is everything”. JFC it’s annoying.

Namechange98242 · 01/07/2024 21:49

"Dog-whistle"
"Get in the bin"

Eurgh... mainly said by irritating people who think they are morally-superior.

LibbyL92 · 01/07/2024 21:49

Holibobs makes me cringe.

BreatheAndFocus · 01/07/2024 21:49

“A gentle reminder” - hate it! DC’s teacher uses it a lot and it sounds so daft: “A gentle reminder that it’s PE tomorrow”. No, it’s just a reminder!

mumedu · 01/07/2024 21:50

Sunnydiary · 01/07/2024 20:25

Picky bits should have been at the top of the list.

Otherwise, YANBU

What on earth is wrong with picky bits? I don't ever use this phrase but I like it.

AndThatsItReally · 01/07/2024 21:50

@Minimili that is just genius. (Yes I was literally laughing my head off!)

Deep dive.

Makes my skin crawl!

And the less intense shallow paddle

Amsx · 01/07/2024 21:50

People who 'nip' places.

Shoot them all at dawn.

Newsenmum · 01/07/2024 21:50

RockyRogue1001 · 01/07/2024 20:30

You beat me to hollibobs

But you forgot hubby

Surely you mean hubs?

what about bubs?

Seeleyboo · 01/07/2024 21:50

OptimismvsRealism · 01/07/2024 20:46
