To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

Deep dive.

Makes my skin crawl!

Are you an Ofsted inspector?

Newsenmum · 01/07/2024 21:50

Amsx · 01/07/2024 21:50

People who 'nip' places.

Shoot them all at dawn.

How embarrassing, I pop and nip and grab everything 🤭

excelledyourself · 01/07/2024 21:50

When someone shows their agreement with something that someone else has written, just by writing 'THIS' underneath it.

mrlistersgelfbride · 01/07/2024 21:50

"Living his/her best life".
Usually accompanied by a picture of a child misbehaving.

That weird Instagram thing:

No-one , absolutely no-one:
(Insert weird joke here)

Fizbosshoes · 01/07/2024 21:50

Charlize43 · 01/07/2024 21:49

'Nippleeepoos'

Hate that! My ex-boss used to use it: 'Then he grabbed my...'

😳

I've never heard this in my life (thankfully!!!)

Staringatthewalljustmeagain · 01/07/2024 21:51

Uricon2 · 01/07/2024 20:27

Gifted.

And phrases like "it needs done" instead of "it needs doing " or "it needs gone" instead of "it needs to go".

I hate these too, but someone always launches an attack as it’s ‘regional’ apparently. Well, those regions need to pack it in.

Scammersarescum · 01/07/2024 21:51

You are quite correct @OptimismvsRealism picky bits tea is a nonsense.

It should of course be referred to by its correct name, a "cold collation".

EveryOtherNameTaken · 01/07/2024 21:51

First thing I thought 😂

MiniPumpkin · 01/07/2024 21:51

I’ve been using vinted a lot and so surprised at the common mistake of people saying ‘brought’. I ‘brought’ two of these. I ‘brought’ a new pair of shoes.
ugh it’s ‘bought’ 😂

LDNtiliDie · 01/07/2024 21:51

mumedu · 01/07/2024 21:50

Are you an Ofsted inspector?

You beat me to it! I wish Ofsted did ‘shallow paddles’

plainjayne8282 · 01/07/2024 21:51

Chuck or bung.

Chuck it in the oven.

Bung £20k in an ISA....said with such casual disdain like everyone has a spare £20k to bung in an ISA

Newsenmum · 01/07/2024 21:52

When people write something they want advice or opinions on and end with the phrase “and go!” and if we’re all waiting to desperately answer their question.

Also “that’s it. That’s the post.”

HAUL 🤢

Also, I feel like you will all understand my internal anger about this one... a colleague uses 'myself' (incorrectly) in every telephone conversation she has. Last week, she said 'I'm taking annual leave next week, so myself won't be available'

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/07/2024 21:52

I can't help but envisage people actually 'popping' or 'grabbing' or 'jumping' in all the situations these terms are used... and it's ridiculous!

My immediate boss is often offering to 'jump on' a call or a zoom and I like her a lot, but I really really want to scream and possibly poke her in the eye (and I never ever wish to have a zoom or a call where an email or a whatsapp chat will do, and 99% of the time, it absolutely will!).

Also 'shop' as in 'shop the look' - no, fuck off, you mean 'buy a similar outfit/accessory/lipstick/whatever'.

Similar to 'that's a great bake' rather than 'you've made some excellent sausage rolls Susan, well done'.

TartenRedRug · 01/07/2024 21:52

Curated- about books or home decor

You are not the V&A!

Staringatthewalljustmeagain · 01/07/2024 21:52

“Is a whole vibe…”

midlifeattheoasis · 01/07/2024 21:52

I'm adding this as have just seen another thread and it reminded me how annoyed I get when people say they were "pissed" instead of "pissed off". We're not American!! It really bloody annoys me.

I agree with almost all of the above. Particularly hate, living my best life, making memories, picky tea.

I've never heard of Country Mumkin, but I shall add that to my list 😬

This.

(sorry)

EddieSweety · 01/07/2024 21:53

“So this happened today….”
”peeps”
”how did this happen?!” - usually in relation to a child’s birthday. That’s what happens with time, people age.
“So we did a thing”

Staringatthewalljustmeagain · 01/07/2024 21:53

“Rant over”

SilkFloss · 01/07/2024 21:53

Gotten.
Dreamy.
Wait-list.

People who 'grab' lunch

People who 'do' holiday locations

People who use 'terrified' when a proportionate reaction would be to be mildly worried. They're either ridiculously over-reacting or completely misrepresenting their feelings.

Oh god yes the people who "do" holiday destinations.

Yuck.
