My husband’s long and arduous weekend. Handholds needed for him

Just a quick post, while our dinner cooks. My husband has had such a long and trying weekend. Let me know if you have any messages of support that you would like me to pass along.

He’s been on a 48 hour stag do bender. It’s been particularly tough on him because he’s 42 years old and has high blood pressure. God bless him.

There have been pub crawls, smoked meat cookouts, distillery tours where they tasted 25 different spirits, poker games and much more. And my husband has pushed through like an absolute saint. He didn’t go to bed until after 4am on both nights and has even lost his poor little voice from all the karaoke. He did 2 Cher songs! Wow!

I’ve had an easy weekend of it, in the homestead. Looking after 3 kids and getting all the washing done after our family holiday. Had a full day of work on Friday. Caught up on some DIY in the evenings too. General relaxation.

Which is why, when my husband arrived home this afternoon at 4.45pm and said he would be going up to bed for nap, I was happy to do the kids dinner and bedtime on my own.

The poor soul. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.

Not just 1 but 2 Cher songs, I mean how does he do it, what an absolute trooper!

somethingischasingme · 16/04/2023 20:36

Mines the same poor lamb. Out overnight with his brother. Voice hoarse from singing. I chilled out with a visit to dps with dcs and painted the spare room. Poor exhausted wee thing is in the bath now. 😘

JudgeRudy · 16/04/2023 20:36

That's impressive OP. You must be so proud of him. Now that's what I call a real man... soldiered on in the face of adversity.

OP when you get a moment away from mopping his brow, please consider setting up a Crowdfunding appeal for a statue in his honour. I know I speak for many on MN when I say it would be a privilege to contribute in recognition of such heroic actions.

Fuckitydoodah · 16/04/2023 20:38

Jeez, a weekend like that would kill a lesser man. What a trooper. I hope he can dig deep and find the strength to make it through to Monday morning.

Of course, and if one of the other dc has a recorder that will really cheer him up.

Haha the calming sound of a child playing a recorder 🤣🤣

Grimeduster · 16/04/2023 20:42

Does he ever get time off? There are two of you in this marriage op and it's important that you both get equal relaxation time. If I was him I'd stay home with the kids next weekend, cook, clean, wash, hoover, mop, garden, DIY, ferry kids about and take care of the pets, and you can go out for 48 hours with your mates and see how you like it.

I think I speak for many of us when I say what a lucky lucky woman you are! What an inspiration your dh is! So brave, so selfless, so giving. Truly the world needs more people like him.

I think his nap time might have been a good time to happily get on with the DIY project. Hopefully it involves hammers and drills.

Bless his little cotton socks being so brave and soldiering on with all that drinking and karaoke.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 16/04/2023 20:45

I like to reward my DH with an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie marathon when he's had a trying weekend at the pub. He cried with happiness the last time. Just throwing that suggestion out there....

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 16/04/2023 20:46

Another who was curious about the 'long and arduous wee' 😃

Sierra26 · 16/04/2023 20:47

Does your daughter have a recorder she could play for him? He’d probably really appreciate the soothing melody, she might even know some Cher?

LemonPledge555 · 16/04/2023 20:47

Please send him my best wishes

Another brave soldier! Gosh, I imagine this is what VE Day must've felt like.

No words of sympathy for him.

Zonder · 16/04/2023 20:51

I'm so ashamed of my dh compared to yours. All he's done is work yesterday, help entertain guests last night, gardening all afternoon and cook the Sunday roast. It's so embarrassing.

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 16/04/2023 20:52

Meant to add - I really hope you're giving him a nice foot massage after you've put the kiddies to bed OP - it must've been hell on his tootsies all that walking from bar to bar..

MidlifeWhatNow · 16/04/2023 20:52

Maybe 'litrally' means something different though, maybe? <head tilt>

Soleiro · 16/04/2023 20:10

I've just been doing my bit clapping outside the house for him, op, lease he deserves.

Show some respect @Soleiro
Pots, pans and a very large serving spoon should be wheeled out for this occasion
I expect @CalpolDependant has already ordered the brass band, stilt walker wearing clogs and bells and fire eaters for the morning

My DH is off on a similar trying weekend next weekend whilst I too keep the home fires burning to keep our 4 kids, the two dogs and two cats alive.

I'll take heed of this thread and have the poor darlings slippers and DGOM ready along with a full cooked roast dinner when the tired out hungover put upon man rolls in next Sunday.

Or I can simply starfish the bed without him snoring and farting, watch what I like on TV,swig wine from the bottle without judgement (what's the point in a dirtying a glass up?) ,soak in the bath without him coming in to shit and when he comes home he can treat me to a lovely Chinese takeout for doing it alone next weekend.
