To ask for an explanation for wtf just happened? **MNHQ UPDATE: Mystery solved!**

I'm seriously creeped out and can't figure out a rational explanation so I'm hoping someone can!

Sitting in the kitchen, eating dinner when a black shape ran past my legs, close enough that I felt it pass. Figured it was my cat at first but when I stood up, she was sitting on the windowsill!

The dark shape ran into the living room where my partner is (he saw it too, because he shouted me!)

It apparently jumped on the sideboard and vanished in front of his eyes. There's nowhere it could go - the sideboard is solid oak on a solid stone wall.

The dog is now going mental at the sideboard like there's something there (if there is, we can't find it!)

I'm genuinely creeped out - anyone have a rational explanation? What the hell did we see?

A mouse?

NuffSaidSam · 13/02/2022 20:01

Ghost cat.

Houseofvelour · 13/02/2022 20:02

That's so creepy! How big was it?

SnaccidentsHappen · 13/02/2022 20:03

A bat

HerRoyalHappiness · 13/02/2022 20:03

Definitely ghost cat.

1000yellowdaisies · 13/02/2022 20:04

Shadow. Any sort of wildlife. Dog is probably barking because of both your reactions.
Im sure there will be people along to tell you its a ghost... its not.

Theunamedcat · 13/02/2022 20:04

Ghost cat it's been here too I like to think it's my old cat coming to visit basically three cats went into the kitchen ds dropped something and FOUR cats came out

2021s · 13/02/2022 20:04

Glitch in the matrix

WeirdlyKind · 13/02/2022 20:05

It felt bigger than a mouse. Like I felt the pressure on my leg as it went past.

Partner suggested a bat, but we've literally searched the entire living room and can't find anything. The dog is still growling at the sideboard but there's nothing put of place inside and no room behind for anything!

Mouse or rat, for sure.

HunkyPunk · 13/02/2022 20:07

A rat? They’re pretty fast. Could it have got in the sideboard somehow?

Thatsplentyjack · 13/02/2022 20:07

Ghost cat.

RocketPanda · 13/02/2022 20:08

Could be a rat, they can flatten their spines and squish into the smallest of gaps.

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/02/2022 20:08

Pull the sideboard out…. If you dare!

Uncomplicated · 13/02/2022 20:08

It’ll be a rat. They go quick. There will be a small gap somewhere you haven’t noticed

2021s · 13/02/2022 20:08

Have you looked behind the sideboard?

Hb12 · 13/02/2022 20:09

Rat

something2say · 13/02/2022 20:10

Sounds like a spirit of some sort. I'd be opening the window and doing some sort if 'Go, you are free' type ceremony. Seriously. I read about one just like that on here, on a creepy stories thread.... In situations like this, I'm a good witch who doesn't see such things, but I stand back and let them exit...

WeirdlyKind · 13/02/2022 20:10

Would a rat be able to jump onto a side board though? It's quite tall! I'd rather have a rat than a ghost I think.

Can't see anything behind the sideboard and it's too heavy to move!

OP posts:
PurpleFlower1983 · 13/02/2022 20:10

I agree a rat!

Inspectorslack · 13/02/2022 20:10

It’ll be a rat. They can get into tiny spaces.

FiftyStoriesHigh · 13/02/2022 20:11

Rat. They can be bigger than you think.

BeenHereForAges · 13/02/2022 20:11

I don't know but I think you should all get in the car right now and drive away fast.

MsMeNz · 13/02/2022 20:11

Mouse. They can get through the tiny tiny cracks (bones can part to squeeze through thungs) and fast as lightning at times. A rat are bigger and I don't think you would doubt what it was.

WomblingWilma · 13/02/2022 20:11

You didn’t happen to forage for mushrooms for dinner OP?

If it was a mouse or bat, the cat would surely have known about it

How big was this ‘shape’?
