To ask your "glitch in the matrix" moment?

bloomingheck1 · 12/01/2022 13:08

Hello,

I had a glitch in the matrix last night whilst dying my hair, I took the nozzle off the bottle and put it on the sink and then I mixed the dye etc and when I went to get the nozzle it was gone, I moved everything off the sink, looked on the floor but it was gone so I managed without and then once the hair dye was on I found the nozzle on the sink on top of something I'd moved and I swear it wasn't there before! Not a major event but it was a bit weird.

Do you have any glitch in the matrix stories? (Basically unexplained events)

once the teachers had gone to bed in taxis with some twenty something backpackers.
I think this sentence needs some punctuation-it's giving some very odd ideas!

bigbeatmanifesto · 13/01/2022 09:51

I think I have a few, as a child I used to dream of myself as adult married with 3 children going through daily events I had 2 sons and a daughter in every dream and we lived in a house opposite a woods, it's all come true, I find myself in a state of deja vu ALOT.
My grandad passed away in 2011, when he was alive he would take an afternoon nap everyday from 1-2pm and even now it's like the house remembers because the sound of him getting out of bed and walking out the room still happens around 2pm it's so strange.
When I was about 14 me & 3 friends saw an aeroplane fly above us with one of the engines of fire and it was in decline it felt very like it was going down very fast and we were all shouting in shock, I ran home told my mum and she put teletext on checked the news & newspapers the next day it was never there, no news was ever reported. It definitely happened.
I met my DH before he was my DH on a beach in Wales a boy ran over to me took a chip out of my cone we spoke for 5 mins and then he ran off, 8 years later outside a chippy a man came over took a chip from my tray and later that night in the local pub we got talking and I told him about the boy an the beach he just looked at me and said cone of chips yellow costume? instantly I recognised him. So bloody weird.

Not so much an unexplained event as a coincidence that still blows my mind.

I have two DCs that were both born on New Years Day, three years apart...

@forlornlorna

Weird thing that our family often puzzled over.

It was coming up to our then dd 6th birthday. She had been insisting that she was having a kitten. We kept telling her she was not. Everyday she'd draw pics of this black and white cat, she'd chosen a name, made it a bed in her room. If we tried to explain that we really didn't have a kitten for her she would get very upset and insist we were being mean and he was coming.

Birthday morning came and she opens her presents. She got ready to go out with her dad to the toy store to choose a gift. Opens the front door and in darts a black and white cat. "Yay he's here"

We had to take him vets to see if he was chipped, asked all the neighbours if they knew where he was from, put posts on missing pets sites the lot!

He's still here 6 years later

That's wonderful. ❤️

I was on holiday in Israel years ago and went on a day trip to the Dead Sea as I’d always wanted to float in it. I was wearing a brimmed canvas sun hat as the weather was so hot, you couldn’t not wear something to cover your head. When I got out, the rim of the hat was soaked where I’d put my neck back to float. Back home, a week later, I was unpacking and thought it strange that the rim of the hat was still damp as I’d worn it every day in 40° temperatures so plenty of time for it to dry out.

Put the hat away and thought no more about it. 10 years later, I found the hat in a drawer and it was still wet. Got DH to feel it to prove I wasn’t going mad. Went through my stuff again last year (another 10 years later!) and pulled out the hat to show teen DCs and tell them the story. Yup, it was still damp in exactly the same place. I’m sure there’s a scientific explanation, but it’s still weird!

It think this might be explained by the high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea. Salt attracts atmospheric moisture:

When I was 13, I used to walk through a small village to secondary school. I'd lived in the area all my life and knew it well. I lived in the next village though...about two miles away. One afternoon I'd been at school late finishing something and was alone walking home.

I spotted a new shop, just off the main street, down a little residential road. It appeared to be a junk shop and I LOVED those, so I detoured and visited it.

It was a typical junk shop...loads of stock in and out...books, toys, furniture all piled high and everything looked like it had been there for a long time. Outside there were tables with more stuff and hanging in the window, a pair of white ice skates. I browsed for a while whilst a smiling old lady who was in charge, watched me. Then I went home, planning to return with money the next day after school.

Well, I went straight to the shop the next day because there was no school that day but it was a weekday...maybe it was a strike or something...either way I was there by 10.00am and it was gone! The whole "shop" wasn't there. Nothing but a house. It was the same building but the shop and things weren't there.

It's impossible to think that it was just a house with a lot of stuff and it was all packed away between the day I went there because it was just so much stuff...and a big place too...right to the ceiling in places. There was no sign of it ever having been a shop at all...but it definitely was.

Could it maybe have been a yard sale type thing? So for one day only?
@bigbeatmanifesto You married a serial chip stealer!
I did. The reason we got talking was I said to him do you just go over to random women and steal there food often do you? He just laughed and said with no I honestly don't!! He had been living in Spain just landed back in England and was dying for proper English chips and I just so happened to have some, doesn't really explain why he stole them as child though, very weird Grin

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 13/01/2022 10:20

The adhf object permanence means that quite often I can put something somewhere and have zero recollection if doing it, or of it being there because I can no longer see it. I also get object blind, so I can for eg- put the juice in the fridge. Shut the door. Open the door - no juice. Just completely blind to it. It's incredibly frustrating and has forced me to become rather rigid about certain things so I can be sure where they are. It can be stressful and frustrating and if I didn't know this about myself would be quite sure there were pixies or poltergeists or time slips moving my stuff and then randomly reappearing it for me!

Chocomelon · 13/01/2022 10:24

@LyndaSnellsSniff

One Christmas we were staying at a relatives house and I was given a high value gift card. A wonderful gift as money was tight. Unfortunately it went missing so I searched their house high and low looking for it, to no avail.

Back home, about 3 months later, it suddenly reappeared on a chest of drawers in my bedroom. Really weird but very welcome!

Another one…My walk home from work took me past a telephone box (this was a good while ago!). For several days running, the phone started ringing as I got to phone box. I thought about answering it but chickened out!

The phone could have rung repeatedly throughout the day and you'd only know when you were there.

Many years ago when the DC were babies, their tiny socks would go missing in the washing machine - usually one of a pair. We were moving house 7 years later and I was doing one last load of laundry. When I was taking the wet clothes out of the machine, there were the missing baby socks! At first I thought they had gotten stuck somewhere in the machine for 7 years, then I remembered we got rid of the old washer and bought a new one the year before.
Omg this is so spooky!!!

I was in A&E with my daughter one Sunday morning, who had badly hurt her foot. There was a girl from her class in the waiting area with her dad (who's a GP), who had also hurt her foot and needed treatment.
Around two years later, I was sent to A&E for a dental emergency. Lo and behold, there was the same dad in the waiting area again, with another daughter – who was there for a possible fracture. It was pretty weird. I mean I don't go to A&E on a regular basis, and the fact he's a GP, I don't suppose he uses the service lightly either.
Anyway, a few weeks later, I was talking to his wife at the school gate and told her one of my daughters had been diagnosed with a fairly rare auto-immune condition. It's rare enough that anyone I'd told had never heard of it, and several doctors we had seen had never even seen a case. Guess what? Her daughter had been diagnosed with exactly the same condition a couple of years previously.
All 'coincidence' I'm sure but pretty strange all the same!

When I lived in Edinburgh a group of friends and I went on a couple of ghost walking tours. One was to the vaults behind Whistleblinkys, pub. We ended up in the vault beside their storage area.
So the guide got on with his spiel about one of the ghostly characters who frequented the vault. Part of which was to turn off all lights. While the guide was talking I felt someone grip my arm tighter and tighter till I was nearly yelping in pain. The lights went back on and no-one was standing next to me, let alone who could griped my arm.
The second one was to a vault in the middle of Prince’s Mall. Nothing odd happened till we were leaving and I heard a man laughing very hard, very nasty laugh. I asked my friend could she hear it but she said what laughing. Everyone legged it outside. Friend looked shocked at me.

When I was about 6 I was in school, this was in the 80s before Margaret Thatcher had snatched the milk, and I was drinking my warm bottle of milk with the ubiquitous blue straw at my tale and my tooth fell out. I just put it in my pocket and was going to tell my mum when I got home, but it disappeared from my pocket at some point during the day. I didn't say anything to my mum but at bedtime I found the missing tooth under my pillow.

Am sure there a completely reasonable explanation - but it has flummoxed me to this day (37 years later!).

DedalusBloom · 13/01/2022 10:56

Years ago - maybe in the late 90s- I was in a Waitrose with my mum. I was home for the weekend and she was doing her weekly shop. We were in the fruit and veg aisle when we became aware of a couple ( man/woman) who seemed to be acting very low key oddly.

They would pick up, say, a stem of broccoli and show it to the other, who would then examine it minutely and exclaim over it as if they had never seen broccoli before. Then move on to something else and do the same thing. Occasionally they would place an item in their trolley, where their child was sat in the integral seat.

They were dressed slightly oddly too - they were wearing clothes far too "old" for them, although they appeared to be in their mid twenties. They looked exactly like people who had been given instructions on what to wear to blend in with a largely ageing, middle class suburban clientele and just got it a bit wrong.

Mum and I followed them around for a while trying to make sense of what we were seeing, thinking it might be some kind of performance- no one else shopping there seemed remotely interested in them or had noticed their weird behaviour. I think you'd have to have watched them for several minutes, as we had, to see what was happening because it was quite low key. They were talking between themselves, in that we could see their lips moving but try as we might by leaning over to reach for a pear at the same time as them, we couldn't hear a word they were saying. Thought they might be foreign, for example.

Eventually we shrugged and moved on. Which was when I took a proper look at the baby in the trolley. He was about two, big and solid for a child of that age and sitting there staring at me, motionless. As I moved, he turned his head to watch me but didn't move his body at all, his head just swivelled, slowly. His eyes were almost completely black. In that the iris seemed so big that there was virtually no white visible. I got such a sense of malevolence from that child. I walked away, caught up with my mum by the bakery and said " Did you see the..."
"Baby? Yes. Looks like a bloody alien!"

Every so often we reminisce about the "pod people" as we came to call them. It was deeply strange. They honestly did appear to be from a different dimension.
@sodawaterandlime what song was it? Need to know now! Had you never noticed the sneeze before?
It was an Adele song! My go-to when I was sad and wanted a good cry GrinSad it was one of my favourite songs but I hadn’t listened to that exact video of it on YouTube before, it came on automatically after I was listening to another song iyswim. There was just lyrics in the background so not sure why there would be a sneeze on it but because I hadn’t listened to it on that exact video before I don’t know if it was there already or not. It really freaked me out, it was a cough/sneeze/splutter and sounded very distinctive and if it wasn’t impossible I’d have sworn it was the exact same sound on the video. I can’t explain it!

I checked it again and the sound is still there. Although the video isn’t one of the ones that come up straight away when you search it, I had to screenshot it so I could find it again but the sound is definitely still there. It spooked me a lot because I just can’t make sense of it!

25summers · 13/01/2022 11:17

Absolutely loving these.
I have a few- when I was about 8 or 9 I was stood in my mums kitchen looking out the window where our driveway was, it was just starting to get dark and my uncles car pulled up with him and my auntie in. I went running through to my mum in the living room ‘aunties pregnant, she’s having a baby!’ My mum looked puzzled, I said they’re parked outside, so she came into the kitchen to look out the window. Nothing there, she started to fill the sink up to do the dishes, when my uncles car pulled in exactly how I’d seen it beforehand, they came inside, and announced auntie was having a baby, I looked at my mum (who was white as a ghost) and said told you so🤣
December 31st 2019- it was nearly midnight, kids were all asleep in bed and I just got this massive sense of dread, I looked at DP and burst out crying- which is weird in itself because I am not a cryer- and told him something awful is going to happen in 2020 although I don’t know what, but all I could sense was death. He calmed me down and said you’re probably just tired love, let’s go to bed. As SOON as covid was announced, I told him this is it, this it what I was dreading- I just knew, it was really weird.
April 2021- my baby was 8 weeks old. I’ve always seen/sensed my loved ones in spirit, have done since a child. And i noticed I hadn’t had any signs for a while, so I asked out loud if they could show me a sign. A few days later baby was due her 1st lot of vaccines, I’d always kept her red book in the same pocket of the same bag since I got it, I checked just before leaving and it wasn’t in there, pulled everything out every pocket of the bag, wasn’t there. So started checking other places in the house, this in turn had made me leave 5/10 minutes later than I should of-I still couldn’t find it so left without it- on the journey there there was a 3 car pile up with police, fire, and ambulance all having to attend the RTC, I instantly felt the book had been hidden so I didn’t end up in that ( what was even weirder was one of the cars involved was the exact same one as mine), sorry this is long, but it doesn’t end there. So I get the the appointment with about 1 minute to spare, was sure I was going to be drastically late had no idea how I’d actually made it in time given I left later than I would of searching for the book- and the slow traffic because of the RTC, took baby into the room got her out of her car seat to sit her on my knee for her jabs, my baby bag was on the floor next to the car seat, zip open, red book right there. I can’t even say it was all because I was sleep deprived because she’s a great sleeper!

When I was 9 and staying at a friends house I tried on a sanitary towel for the first time (had never seen them before and my mother never explained periods). I came on my period for the first time that night. Still freaks me out to think about it.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 13/01/2022 11:33

I've got quite a few, and try to be rational but the ones that get me are the totally mundane weird things that can't be explained by stress or already having things in your head IYSWIM.

Best example of this I have is as follows:

As an adult in my 40s, I used to help out at a friends framing workshop on a Saturday - all the guys who worked there wanted Saturday off for golf or whatever so I'd be there on my own. It was in a large modern industrial unit with two floors, in a slightly out of town location.

The owner also ran a badminton league and members could buy shuttlecocks there which were stored on the second floor where the framing mouldings and some machinery was.

So a chap comes in for some shuttlecocks, and I toddle up stairs to get them. As I get to the top, in the space between a rack if shelves and a bit of machinery, is a box of shuttlecocks - large box, about 24 inches square at the base and waist height on me. And it's slowly rocking fron side to side.....making no sound at all. I kind of stopped dead and ut slowly settled.

Logical brain assumed it was empty and had just slid of the shelf or something. So I approach it. It was full of tubes of shuttlecocks..... I could just about rock it but it made audible thumps and I couldn't easily lift it....I scanned the shelves for a gap but there was nowhere it could have come from.....

I grabbed what the customer wanted and flew down to him, explaining what had happened..... he confirmed he hadn't heard anything, and if course this is a vast, echoey metal and concrete building where you could hear anything quite loudly.

I still can't get my head around that one at all, because of all the things my brain could conjure up for whatever reason, a randomly rocking cardboard box seems the least likely......

ChastainsMisery · 13/01/2022 11:36

Most things covid related.

Every now and again if I think about it too much I have a "someone has got to be fucking with us" moment Confused

MistressoftheDarkSide · 13/01/2022 11:38

And as a side note, I'm going through some major stress at the moment, so some friends came round to distract / support me last night, and we ended up on the subject of weirdness as they are pretty sceptical but also have experienced weirdness, so it was pretty interesting - I recounted the above story to them.

I then opened up MN for bedtime reading and find this thread and a ghost thread, which have given me more excellent distraction, so thanks everyone.....it's been a tonic Grin

BFPDec21 · 13/01/2022 11:46

I had a premonition recently, I go through periods of having the odd one or two which are pretty boring like something DH will suggest for dinner or something DD will say before they say it.

DD had been interrupting me WFH on a work call and ran off to go downstairs when DH called her. In my head as she was leaving the room I saw her slip down the stairs at the bottom along with hearing the noise of her falling down. I got this really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

As she left the room I said "Be careful!" She then fell in the exact same way I'd imagined Sad

Maddiemademe · 13/01/2022 11:50

Oh, also I lost a baby at 16 weeks. Little girl but had never named her. I actually got pregnant the month and had my DD. I had never ever really spoken about it due to being traumatic but when I spoke to my DP about it properly for the first time and said I don’t know what to call her, my DD (then 4) came running in home from school and wanted to draw. I didn’t think much of it. Then she brought a picture with a rainbow and 2 girls holding hands underneath it. She told me that it was her and her sister Rosie and that Rosie told her to draw it and give it to me in the car on the way back from school. DP picked her up from school so she never heard the conversation. Makes me teary thinking about it.

Same DD asked what happened to the floating bright lights she used to see in the house. I was confused and after explaining it to me (and looking at me like I was an idiot) we looked at some pictures online and she pointed out orbs. She said she saw white, red and blue ones but hadn’t seen them in a few months. When I was in the kitchen that evening explaining it to DP, a feather literally appeared before our eyes in between and floated down to the floor. I like to think it is my grandad who died when my mother was 6 months pregnant with me as I find feathers everywhere. I have found 4 in my caravan (no feathered cushions here) in the last 2 weeks alone.

Jitters22 · 13/01/2022 12:06

Lay in bed last night reading this until the early hours.

Several of the posts struct a chord with me, especially about missing things inexplicably turning up apparently out of nowhere. I've had this myself and have absolutely no rational explanation for it. Will maybe post about that later, but my first thought was to post about something that happened when I was a child.

We lived in a crescent of houses with a green in the middle. Very safe for kids to play outside and there were a lot of young families living in the crescent, so a gang of us would always be out, especially in Summer.

One scorching hot Sunday afternoon when I was about 9, we were playing rounders out on the green. The boy who lived next door to me was getting annoyed with the other players on his team and kept saying 'For God's Sake, hit the Ball". or "Oh my God, how did you miss that?" if someone missed a catch or whatever.

One of the girls got fed up of being told off and she also came from a religious church-going family so she said to him "Stop taking the Lord's name in vain" and when he said it again she said "that's blasphemy" and so on. He kept on saying it (deliberately I think just to wind her up) and in the end she shouted at him "If you don't stop saying it, God will punish you!"

At that very moment, hand on heart, the sky went dark, there was a rumble of thunder and these huge 50p size raindrops started to hammer it down. The heavens literally just opened.

Complete coincidence of course and a storm was going to happen anyway due to the excessive heat, but it was the pinpoint perfect timing of it. We absolutely shat ourselves ... and ran faster than we've ever run in our lives, back to our respective houses.

Funny enough, the kid next door was rarely heard to say FGS or OMG again, after that!
