What's the broken thing in your house that everyone just puts up with?

I'll start. We have a three legged Henry Hoover, and any time anyone hoovers you hear lots of banging and "fuck offs" as it falls over every 3 seconds. It's been like it for five years and rather than replacing it we all have just grown to accept our disabled Henry.

What's that broken thing in your house that everyone just accepts and lives with, despite how annoying it may be? I feel every family must have one Grin

My executive function 😒

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 10/01/2022 21:49

And I don’t have curtains in my bedroom. I moved in 7 years ago. I don’t even notice anymore!

Birdles52 · 10/01/2022 21:50

Oh so much!

A cupboard door in the kitchen-the hinge is knackered.

Only half of our 4 Slice toaster stays down. We wedge the other half down with an old wallet, but then it doesn’t pop up & you burn your toast 🤦‍♀️

Leaky tap in the bathroom if you don’t tighten it enough.

Dodgy window in the bedroom.

Damaged plaster from when we had a leak in the roof. Fixed the leak, but the plaster still needs redoing.

Knackered shed door.

Knackered floor boards 🤦‍♀️

Oh & our shower died this evening while I was mid hair wash 😭

H1Drangea · 10/01/2022 21:51

Loo roll holder
The middle bit ( that the loo roll hangs on ) is spring loaded and seems to explode when I pull the loo paper
I hate the ruddy thing, and it will be going soon , if there’s no replacement , the loo roll will be quite fine on the floor by the loo

Monkeymilkshake · 10/01/2022 21:51

@LoveAndBeSilent hahaha same in our house! We have to slam the door or keep it shut with a (broken) chair when DCs are in bed!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 10/01/2022 21:52

In our ensuite, the shower pressure is shit. We had a plumber out to fix it and he said he'd come back and fix the shower in the other ensuite which was pissing water out of the knob rather than the shower head. He didn't return, but didn't charge us either.
The door to the 2nd ensuite doesn't catch when you close it, so it springs back open.
The external doors on the conservatory have a leaky seal so if it rains from the north I need to roll up the doormat and put down a bath towel.
All of the bulbs in the ceiling light in our bedroom have blown and I cba to replace them.
The runner for one of the drawers under the bed keeps coming off and the drawer gets stuck open. It's an absolute bastard to get back in.
One of the windows in the kitchen, the handle comes off if you touch it.
The gas fire was always shit (powerflue) but since one of the cats "investigated" it and broke a bit of the fire proofing from the back off it's probably completely fucked.
We have to turn the heating off to put the hot water on or there's an annoying buzzing noise that does.not.stop.
Toilet seat, yeah, that too.

Flowertailbird · 10/01/2022 21:53

We can't open the oven door without first opening the kitchen cupboard next to it. So bloody annoying.

Fredstheteds · 10/01/2022 21:55

The kitchen is original...the house is 32 years old.... cupboards are beige... and dreadful... refit one day...

Moonflower12 · 10/01/2022 21:56

Our shower. Our water isn't directly from the mains so it is a very low pressure. The shower just gently drips on you. We have bought a pump but need time to fit it.

Worse than that is our dodgy downstairs lights. They can last up to 4 hours without tripping or 10 minutes. It's a lottery. We have lots of lamps.

Benjispruce5 · 10/01/2022 21:57

Several internal doors don’t fit properly. We changed the handles but they’re too close to the door frame and can be impossible to turn. So, you can get locked in a room quite easily.

MiniPumpkin · 10/01/2022 21:58

Light Grey sofa, two children ages 3 and 6months. One million different stains that have been wiped, even Vaxed the whole thing and it looks like shit. Will wait till smallest dc is up a bit before replacing

KloppsTeeth · 10/01/2022 21:58

One of our windows is full of condensation between the panels. You can’t see out of it. I can’t afford a new window and because the other glass panels are going there is no point in just replacing the glass.

TatianaBis · 10/01/2022 22:01

The toaster has such a forceful pop up that the toast flies out, if you don’t catch it it ends up on the floor. It was bought to match the new kitchen and we intended to replace it, but now everyone has got used to catching their toast. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Juletide · 10/01/2022 22:02

Klopps It's really cheap and fast to replace the glass, wish I hadn't put it off for years. Some companies do just that.

Molehillfromamountain · 10/01/2022 22:02

The bath tap drips, the shower upstairs drips, the shower tray downstairs leaks, the front door handle is sticking.
DH can fix all these jobs himself so won't get anyone in... except he doesn't and we just live with it much to my irritation Confused

Ladyrattles · 10/01/2022 22:04

The Lakeland potato chipping machine. Handle fell apart and is stuck together with duct tape which only lasts a few times before we are cursing and sticking more on.

Any vacuum. Don't know what DH does but within days they don't work well. It's been Henry, Hetty, Vax, Miele, Dyson, Dyson, Shark.

Couple of mine are like this too.
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/01/2022 22:06

The loo roll holder in our en suite. It has never been secure - one side rotates, so the spindle pings out and the loo roll ends up on the floor. It was doing this when we moved in, but could be tightened up. It has got worse and worse, and now the other side is loose too, so you only have to look at the damn thing wrongly, and it pings off again.

Bastard thing.

Thetwomutts · 10/01/2022 22:07

One of my dogs- the st Bernard cross collie - definitely broken. We often have to explain to visitors that his brain is gone.

Incredibly loving dog considering he spent his first 2 years of life feral and coming to us was his first time in a house

But he is a nutter that tries to eat tractor wheels, blends in with cows so just lies there in the middle of them, destroys things when left alone, flinches at sudden movements and noises like you are going to beat him to death, and goes from soppy soppy huggy kisses giant lap dog to nervous barking wreck in the space of 5 seconds

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 10/01/2022 22:08

Garage door lock. You have to jiggle it exactly right. It usually takes me about ten attempts, then other times it does it first go.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 10/01/2022 22:09

We had a glitchy tv for about a year. I’ve literally no clue why we didn’t replace it earlier as it’s 10 years old. Finally on Boxing Day we got a new one but seriously, why didn’t we do that before? It’s the main TV in the house that’s used most days. No financial reason to wait Blush

SpangledShambles · 10/01/2022 22:11

One bedroom door missing - we have had a temporary door curtain in place for around two years. Washing machine works fine but panel you pull to put powder in has broken off so have to use random things to lever it open. Wardrobe door not attached so jammed shut and never use clothes in that wardrobe 🙄

Yebbie · 10/01/2022 22:11

A lot of toilet seat hate here! Mine haven't budged yet.. but they are all square. I realised after we had them put in every bathroom of the house that there is a reason toilets are usually round. Square ones are hideously uncomfy Grin

Me!!! Due to my Dyspraxia I'm permanently broken!

KurtWilde · 10/01/2022 22:12

Just remembered another.. the base on my telly is broken so I have to jam DVDs under each side to stop it tipping sideways.
