Things that are actually pretty weird when you think about them?

I've just been thinking about this as I've been lay in the bath.

I'm currently pregnant and baby goes mad when I'm in the bath and I was watching him kicking and squirming inside me and just thought... This is actually pretty odd when you think about it. I have a living thing that's moving around inside me!

A friend had to have a blood transfusion not so long ago and she can't think about that for long without feeling squeamish that someone else's blood was inside her!

What other things do you find strange when you really think about them?

Why is planet earth the only habitable planet in our universe? Ok, I get there is probably some life form on the other planets but to actually live like we do? Build houses and work and raise families etc, I find that fascinating, and what is beyond our universe? The vastness of space is actually quite terrifying.

Fancycrackers · 29/10/2020 00:18

@Papoy

When my grandmum was pregnant with my mum.... I was an egg (follicle) in my mums ovaries ... so I was once in my grandmum 😅

How weird is that ?

This made me think of Babushka dolls. It's so bloody amazing and mind blowing🤯
almondfingers22 · 29/10/2020 00:18

God, who made God.

TeamLucille · 29/10/2020 00:21

Milk and honey just come from survival surely. Someone saw another animal and decided to steal their food.

TeamLucille · 29/10/2020 00:22

God, who made God.

Men, some would say Grin

titnomatani · 29/10/2020 00:24

@Chameleon72

Honey, how the bees produce it, and we eat it. Yuk.

You don't want to know how dogs are made then! 😂

Namechange2220000 · 29/10/2020 00:28

That when I cut up some fruit, or crack an egg, that I'm the only person who's ever seen this bit of food 😂

Lizadork · 29/10/2020 00:28

What blows my mind is the fact I won't ever even know 0.1% of all the knowledge there is on this planet or have read 0.1% of book avaliable. Would take more than a life time to finish the book in our local library every, times that by a million libraries around the world and I have no chance of catching up no matter how studious I attempt to be.

I'll never live long enough to finish what is on Netflix right now either Confused

amimakingitup · 29/10/2020 00:28

Recognising voices. I get (just) that there's enough variation potential in faces for us all to have distinct ones, but voices? mad.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 29/10/2020 00:29

@The3rdWatermelon I am obsessed with family history and frequently when I am typing the name of a child who died I think how mind blowing it would be if the parents knew that 300 years in the future somebody would be taking a moment to think how sad it was that this child died.

amimakingitup · 29/10/2020 00:30

And advertising. We all know its made up bollocks, definitively, so how can it work?

BoyTree · 29/10/2020 00:32

If your clothes are too comfortable, they're probably not appropriate for public and you certainly shouldn't go to work in them. The more important the thing you are doing, the less comfortable your clothes should be in fact, because if you prioritise comfort over the way you look, others will view you as a lazy slob for some reason.

Twiggywinkle13 · 29/10/2020 00:32

The internet. It blows my mind. One day will it have so much information that it’s full?

Also other life forms. Only humans on earth would be arrogant enough to think we are the only life form in an entire infinite universe. On that same note - space 🤯

TeamLucille · 29/10/2020 00:34

huh?!?

I am sure you are joking but I don't get it.

Wow. This is crazy.
Candyfloss99 · 29/10/2020 00:37

How space goes on and on forever. If it stops and there's a wall then what is on the other side of the wall? Nothingness cannot exist.

Lizadork · 29/10/2020 00:38

Pretty weird that we likely all feel like "I am the centre of the universe" and what's happening around is a show just for "me". Hard to get that its not just some play/drama made up for me and when I am gone it all will be too. Maybe it is just me that feels that way. Hard to comprehend others are equally having this human experience, and though i feel all inportant likely I am a speck of nothing Confused

And the fact I will die - that is weird - at some point I will just stop. I feel like i have always been and even though I know I was born and I know I will die. Both are so terrifying that I cannot compute that I am not always what I am now forever.

Aging is messed up - grow up for a few years of prime to fall a part and unlearn everything.

EyelinerRocks · 29/10/2020 00:42

Love this thread !

Mine is phones / especially mobile phones .

How can I be in one time zone - Australia - yet call my parents in UK and be able to hear them thru a tiny handset thousands of miles away like yesterday!

The phone lines under the ocean on landlines I kind of get but MOBILES! A wee tiny metal box lets me communicate through time zones !!!
Aaaaahhh

almondfingers22 · 29/10/2020 00:51

Like someone said earlier. That so many people just think we’re here by chance. I mean, how can they NOT believe in a creator. The proof of God is everywhere. I just don’t understand how they can’t see it.

StoppinBy · 29/10/2020 00:53

Language. Who actually sat there and decided the names for everything. In reality if a different name had been chosen we could easily be eating poop on grass instead of eggs on toast for breakfast or apples could be called socks etc etc.

Weird.

Staffy1 · 29/10/2020 01:00

Ants and bees. They are always busy and doing tasks. How do they all know what to do? For that matter babies immediately knowing what to do when presented with a breast, 20 minutes after birth.

I sometimes think it all seems very unlikely that we were created by God, where did He come from, etc? But then think it seems even more unlikely that we all just came about by chance.
Bellabluea · 29/10/2020 01:13

That our brains maybe aren’t developed enough yet to understand the world. We’re 99% identical to chimpanzees and just consider the cognitive differences.
Imagine some species that was 1% more developed and what their mind would be potentially capable of.
🤯

This is a wonderful thread! Worthy of Classics. Thank you @PutItInYourpocket

Blurp Yes. My godson told me that he found it way weirder that rhinoceros had once lived here in Cambridgeshire than that dinosaurs had lived anywhere else ever.

The concept of Cambridgeshire is weird: politically, geographically, existentially.

Everything is weird. Looking at the night sky is looking into the distant past.

No one can agree on anything. Everyone there at the same time sees a rainbow but we all see a different rainbow.

Time is what stops everything happening at once.

Although they claim to be supremely rational, humans are complicated and irrational, prey to hormones and emotions. The excuses they make for themselves are wonderful. And sometimes horrible.

And yes, the space between atoms: how does that work?

testing987654321 · 29/10/2020 01:28

I need to read this thread in detail when I am properly awake. Although some of the weird thoughts might just freak me out.

It's probably already been mentioned, about sleeping, that not only is it weird but also how much we need it. We can live without food for weeks, but without sleep we only last a few days.
