I’ve just learned that Casablanca is not in South America at all and is, in fact in Morocco! Who knew 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Anyone else got any tidbits they learned far too late in life?

There's one place in the northern hemisphere where penguins live...

Well, there's quite a few zoos....

rslsys · 13/10/2017 19:26

Bagpipes can be tuned.

GodIsDead · 13/10/2017 20:01

DH thought that several meant seven. I told him to buy me several kiwis and he asked why I needed 7. I said I don’t need 7, I just need 3 or 4. He said then why did you say several? I said several means a few. He said no it means 7. Confused He was shocked when I googled the definition for him.

Gingernaut · 13/10/2017 20:54

Until a couple of years ago I didn’t know that birds had sex. As a child I was told that the female laid soft eggs and the male fertilised them. I just excepted this and never questioned it. Due to this I also believed you could get square eggs if you got the egg early enough and put it in a box. I recounted this story to my DH and our friends over dinner genuinely believing it to be true. They nearly wet themselves laughing. I swear they constantly threaten to tell people.

TheDodgyEnd · 13/10/2017 21:07

@CompletelyUnknown I love that. How many friends were there to witness this?

My husband and 2 of our friends. They regularly cluck at me when we are in company and laugh.

Prictoriafeckam · 13/10/2017 21:18

I still think Santorini is somewhere in Italy.

Lweji · 13/10/2017 21:20

There's one place in the northern hemisphere where penguins live...

Well, there's quite a few zoos....

And the Galapagos. But not near the North Pole.

I expect they'd be able to cross north at some point, but they'd be quickly eliminated by any polar bears. The North Pole is not very friendly to flightless birds. Their only hope of crossing over is if polar bears become extinct.

Lweji · 13/10/2017 21:21

I just excepted this

Hopefully, you already know that it should be accepted, and that was a typo. Wink

CakesRUs · 13/10/2017 21:25

My friend was visiting from Australia She saw a badger and was shocked, she thought they were mythological creatures like unicorns and fairies Grin

StealthPolarBear · 13/10/2017 21:25

Meringue :)

CompletelyUnknown · 13/10/2017 21:54

In my embarrassed need to confess my massive egg mistake I didn’t proof read. I’ve tried to block it from my memory. I’ll need to accept my error in judgement. Always proof read no exceptions.

quencher · 13/10/2017 22:01

And the Galapagos. But not near the North Pole. There is a technicality here because Galapagos is right bang on the equator. Most of the islands where the penguins are fall in the south. For the place as whole it both south and north.

DadDadDad · 13/10/2017 22:06

I knew some clever clogs would mention zoos, but Galapagos was the answer I was looking for. I'm sure when I checked this a couple of years ago, I convinced myself that there will be some Galapagos penguins just north of the Equator.

allegretto · 13/10/2017 22:14

Um, until two minutes ago and a look at Google maps, I thought the Galapagos islands were somewhere completely different!

TheDodgyEnd · 13/10/2017 22:18

And another one I’ve just remembered. (slightly worrying the amount I’m coming up with) I was at least 16 when I learned that Schweppes isn’t pronounced
‘scooch-weppers’

"If pontetrct was in wales in would be pontyfract hehe"

I think it would be pontyffract. One F would be a V sound.

nigelsbigface · 13/10/2017 22:47

Sade is a band??
