to ask if you sad when, after starting a topice, no one responds?

I used to think that I was a good writer. But, since joining MN, I have to face the sad realisation that this is untrue. If I comment on a thread, it dies, and if I start a thread, no one answers! I give up. I know I am a good reader, I will stick to that from now on....

Maybe the thread topic is more successful if it is aomething other people thought themselves? Like we have all thought about Chinese food. We have not all thought about a child's snot affecting his confidence.

70- I always think that is a waste of typing, those donuts- very passive aggressive, you are right

Another reply from a mostly lurker, sometimes commenter, non-thread-starter :)

I have to apologise for being one of those people who write "what someone up thread said, I agree" - my defence is that I post on my phone mostly and I can never remember who made which comments. By the time I've read to the end and posted I've forgotten who said what I agreed with but want to add my voice in support.

I get sad when I comment on something and nobody picks up on it - to agree or disagree. Then someone else makes the same comment and everyone says "ooooh, what she said. V clever" and I want to write "I said it first!"

Ahem.

We did actually have Chinese takeout last night. Chicken & seasonal veg, combination rice and sweet&sour pork for DC.

MiniTheMinx · 19/05/2013 19:58

Erm.....the national geo thread......you just need someone to start a bun fight and it could be a goer Wink

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 20:02

Should I have said something rude to first messager?

AgentZigzag · 19/05/2013 20:09

There's a link under the 'Mumsnet Talk' heading at the top of the page for 'unanswered messages' Mini.

I'm sure someone used to start threads in chat prodding posters into answering them.

Primadonnagirl · 19/05/2013 20:09

It makes you feel as if you've been shunned by the Mums at the school gate!

Hugglepuff · 19/05/2013 20:18

I know gauling isn't it ! Even in techno world people can figure out I was never the cool kid in the class ! Still it's always a good excuse for curling up with a tub of Ben and Jerrys and watching Grays Anatomy. :)

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 21:16

That's why I feel sad! In real life, I am un-charming, constantly putting my foot in my mouth, but I actually comforted myself with the thought that people would like me if they knew how wittily intruiging I am when writing, but now I know I'm not!

OP posts:
Wouldntyouliketoknow · 19/05/2013 21:24

I also find that people who reply after me in a thread will NEVER respond to what I have said. As in, I never get a "agree with wouldntyouliketoknow" or "same thing happened to me wouldnt!" Even from the OP.

It's as if I might as well not have said anything! (Watch as it happens here too haha)

Wouldntyouliketoknow, I have often felt this way. I have consoled myself by thinking that I obviously fly over their heads Smile I am either very odd, have a very strange way of thinking or I am.........just so unremarkable. It's probably the latter!

Blistory · 19/05/2013 21:30

I only read threads by Kim. I think her posts are the only ones with merit.

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 21:30

As wouldntyouliketoknow has said- a few months ago, there was a thread about funny things DC have said, and I wrote a really truly (unbiased) hilarous comment, but the ones people commented on most were the ones with curse words!

OP posts:
MiniTheMinx · 19/05/2013 21:34

I think you have to get in quick by saying something so contentious that everyone jumps on you. Then you wonder if you should have done that.

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 21:34

AS Blistory has said, KIM's posts are really well considered and well composed (especially the ones on things I wrote)

OP posts:
Wouldntyouliketoknow · 19/05/2013 21:36

I know, I often think as Kim says, that my posts must just be so boring or unremarkable.

Am pleased I have been acknowledged now though! How sad!

Wouldntyouliketoknow is a great name, it make me want to ask what? wouldn't you like to know......what? tis very charismatic.

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 21:45

Yes, it has a certain mystery

OP posts:
tallwivglasses · 19/05/2013 21:47

I started a thread in Style and Beauty called "To strip or not to strip?" about hair dye-stripping, which I thought was a mildly amusing and eye-catching title...not a sausage Blush

I also kill threads on a regular basis by asking the OP a question (showing an interest in their predicament) which they can't be arsed to answer. In fact I'm only posting this so that the previous poster doesn't feel shit about killing the thread...OP, I feel your pain.

ZenOfPetals · 19/05/2013 21:53

That was a great title. What do you think of "Snot so confident" as a title? I thought it was funny. Maybe I am a total geek. Maybe the number of replies determines success? Like if loads reply, one thinks "That must be good" and then reads.

Thanks for the advice. Now I just have to work on improving my sense of humour!

New development- controversy on the snots thread! This may be interesting as if the thread takes off now, we will know controversy is key!

OP posts:
scrummummy · 19/05/2013 22:20

Hello hope I don't kill the thread now after Zens last post.
I am usually a lurker, rare poster and once started a thread where I was annihilated. But I posted realtime on a Eurovision thread last night and feel better. Will look at unanswered and try no it to kill threads while I'm feeling semi confident.Smile
