To throw water over a pigeon I've just spray painted?

Stay with me.

Just started to spray paint a fence panel, must have startled poor pidge behind fence as it flapped up maniacally. I had a bit of a scream...whilst holding spray trigger.

Pidge is now half 'oak brown', sitting in tree. Can't quite tell if he's ok, not giving much away with facial expression.

Have googled "accidentally painted a pigeon" with disappointingly unresourceful results.

So, should i just chuck water at it & hope it comes off?? Turps would seem a little extreme.

Actually cryin with laughter at this thread. It took me four attempts to relay it to DH between snorts and tears of laughter.

Ratbagcatbag · 05/05/2012 00:35

Crying. Even. Typical thing doesn't autocorrect the onetime I want it too

NicNocJnr · 05/05/2012 01:11

Lol, one of my favourite threads ever - crying!

In all seriousness if he can fly he'll be fine. As ronseal dries there aren't the worries about ingestion like there is with oil. Although the feathers will be stiff they aren't deformed and he'll compensate withno probs until his next shed which won't be too long. No cause for alarm. or no harm, no fowl (groan...how sad that's the best I acn do Sad ) Poor old Paul - and poor you having to apologise for vandalising an acer! Smile

GlowingDerriere · 05/05/2012 01:46

A shed?

He hasn't even got over the fence experience yet...

MyBaby1day · 05/05/2012 04:00

To the person who laughed, animal cruelty is NEVER accpetable! Angry. Just hope YOU don't come back as a pidgeon!. Hope he's o.k. O.P x

NicNocJnr · 05/05/2012 04:22

GlowingDerriere - Don't laugh, ronseal is a well known gateway drug. Paul will get to a point where one fence just isn't enough - sheds, goodness knows maybe even warehouses. Let's just share the hope that OP doesn't have any timber decking...

Ratbagcatbag · 05/05/2012 12:37

Laughed mybaby1day I was sobbing and couldn't breathe, obviously I wouldn't go around spray painting pidgeons, and the OP is worried, but it is funny!!!

fuzzpig · 05/05/2012 12:48

Convulsing with laughter at Have googled "accidentally painted a pigeon"

I was skimming stones on Brighton beach once when a seagull actually dive bombed into a stone mid flight. It continued flying (the seagull I mean) but not in a straight line Blush DH still taunts me about it 8 years on!

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 05/05/2012 12:53

Why are we calling him Paul, when clearly he should be named Ross after the spray tan episode of Friends?

shushpenfold · 05/05/2012 12:55

Could you not add some red to its tummy and pretend it's a really big robin.

McKayz · 05/05/2012 13:03

This has to be the funniest thread I've ever read. So so funny!!!

Poor Paul.

Babieseverywhere · 05/05/2012 13:36

Thank you, I really needed a laugh and this thread really hit the spot. :)

BerryMojito · 05/05/2012 14:58

Funniest thing I have ever read on MN! Have been told off by DD for laughing psychotically :o . I think it was the oversized 'Peter' that nearly killed me off...

threeineachlobe · 05/05/2012 15:52

Just off to finish that fence panel. Wish me luck. Wink

You'd best (I actually wrote nest then, Freudian slip much?) send out some kind of alarm call.

Cacaw! Cacaw! Spray painter in the area

BrainSurgeon · 09/05/2012 15:39

be careful out there OP in case Paul is looking to get his revenge

Justfeckingdoit · 09/05/2012 17:22

I have been grunning about this thread all day and I need to know...

Was Paul (rest in the same position for eternity) a...wood pigeon?

KatieScarlett2833 · 09/05/2012 17:24

He is now Grin

RobinSparkles · 09/05/2012 17:46

I can't believe I missed this thread! I've just been crying with laughter especially at "is that you, Paul" :o

Brilliant!

toofattorun · 09/05/2012 17:54

Haha! I prefer your first attempt hairylemon!

lolajane2009 · 09/05/2012 18:12

lol the giant robin comment has finished me off tbh

WildWomanOBorneo · 12/05/2012 09:49

Note the lack of empathy in the original post and in many of the responses. Would the story be the same had the bird been a robin or a blackbird? How did the writer feel as the bird would have desperately tried to preen itself, and presumably as a safety conscious mum, she was already aware of the paint composition. Last week as I drove under a motorway bridge in heavy traffic we were moved to see a group of young people anxiously looking up at a pigeon frantically caught on the spikes high under the bridge. The predicament was unfortunate for the pigeon and unpleasant to see it struggle to free itself and I doubt that given their obvious concerns, they would be broadcasting their story. Does the storyline of the bird that changed colour rather than the bird that was trapped make it any more acceptable for comments such as many as those here. The bird still suffered. I wonder for how long? Could it fly, or did it flap around the ground until a cat got it? What did she tell her children? I was surprised it was on mumsnet e mail, which is why I am leaving now. Learn from today's young people, they have insight and empathy to the well being of all living creatures (including mankind) and do not differentiate based on abundance of one or the other. Everyone matters.

threeineachlobe · 12/05/2012 12:56

Oh how sad WildWoman - hope you find people that meet your morality requirements elsewhere.

But on another note - yay we made Talk Round Up! Tho hairylemon I'd demand a recount on the posts included, don't think I've ever laughed/snorted so much at a typing fail before.

This thread gave me a much needed laugh. I hate the sodding pigeons in our garden and I'm not going to worry if there's one less pigeon in this world :o

bruxeur · 12/05/2012 14:58

WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE, PLEASE THINK OF THE PIGEONS.
