do you ever find left over notes in shopping torlleys or elsewhere? i

i am vaguely intrigued by these as identified in teh times
"Discarded notes are rubbish to most people, but not for worldwide subscribers to Found, which reprints them. The magazine?s publisher, Davy Rothbart, gets bundles sent to his office in Michigan. Laura Kwerel, a radio producer in Washington, was ?overwhelmed? after reading one issue. ?I realise now,? she says, ?that there is more humanity in a discarded grocery list than in a thousand-page novel.? Some people need to get out more. "

I dont know why we write 'nice ham' for men- when most have trouble making the distinction between the nice ham and the mingin' shoe leather stuff- and just chuck in whatever they pick up first..! mainly out of date in my experience.... maybe we should take pics of nice ham....

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 08/02/2006 15:58

Oi! I know nice ham when I get it - six slices off the bone organic hand carved honey roast, £ 4.92 to you.

bakedpotato · 08/02/2006 16:09

I found a list in the library this morning. It's a book list, not a food one, and it's obviously written by a MNer. Possibly a rather elderly one (spidery writing). Some things have R by them (for 'read'?)

Anita Shreve A Wedding in December (R)
Zadie Smith On Beauty
Jane Gardam The Hollow Hand, Queen of the Tambourine etc
Vikram Seth 2 Lives (R)
OLD FILTH
The Lighthouse PD James (R)
Robertson Davies What's Had in the Here???? (a bit intelligible actually -- only other place I've heard RD mentioned is MN book threads. Marina rates him I believe)
Maggie Gee Mysteries of Glass (crossed out vehemently, R)
Caryl Phillips Cement Garden Ian McEwan
Human Traces by Sebastian Faulks
Alison Lurie Truth and Consequences (also crossed out, R)
Ian Rankin The Flood
She May not Leave by Fay Weldon (crossed out, R)
Nicci French The Mmeory Game etc

Good list, I think
Must be a 'she'

bakedpotato · 08/02/2006 16:09

unintelligible i meant

ICindigo · 08/02/2006 17:36

ok sorry, Bear- i apologise profusely...
You are, of course a MNer and obviously an exeption to the rule..!

catj · 08/02/2006 18:32

Dh works for Asda and he's finally brought me 4 lists! (Although 2 maybe from the same person-handwriting looks the same)
First ones not particularly exciting apart from the spelling mistake
Milk
Wipes
Bread
Pull ups
Sugar
Coffee
Bisquets/choc
crisps
Juice
Salad
Fruit

motherfunkerhunkermunker · 08/02/2006 19:57

Bisquets?!

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 08/02/2006 22:03

My turn! found my first two today. I contemplated swiping one still in use but chickened out. right here we go.

List 1:

yoghurts

(I kid you not - that it it - it's on a tiny scrap of paper about an inch and a half by half an inch.)

List 2:

red biro - on the back of a letter about Wickes Home delivery

White flora
Descaler
Marmalade?
Olivio
MAYONNAISE (crossed out)
Dual wash tablets
TEA X 2 ("2" gone over twice)
Salt (crossed out - am not totally sure it says salt but think so)
RUBBER GLOVES
G (crossed out)

MrsBadger · 09/02/2006 10:19

right, off to see if our library has any OLD FILTH...
will let you know if I find any!

ICindigo · 09/02/2006 10:21

RIGHT all you list hunters!! i'm seriously thinking of seeting up a "lists anonymous" group for those SERIOUSLY list addicted... there was a fight in the torlley park of our local Tescos yesterday and I'm SURE it was 2 Mnetters wrestling over a shopping list found in a torlley they were both running for! Haha

bread/rolls
toilet rolls
chicken
quorn
peppers
sweet pots

veg
cheep (yes!) wine
yogurts
fr meals

ICindigo · 09/02/2006 10:55

fr meals...?
b bars...?
we are a nation of weirdos!!!
Like 'cheep' wine though... so much tastier than a nice chianti!!! hahah as if

MrsBadger · 09/02/2006 11:41

I like the sound of the cheese/ham - is it as nice as Nice Ham though?

SoupDragon · 10/02/2006 15:39

My mother now thinks I'm completely mad as went to Waitrose with her earlier in the week and snaffled these from 2 trolleys...

M+Ms
Milk
Rolls for Burgers
Beers

My kind of list! (square of white paper from a memo block, black biro, small handwriting if you're interested in that sort of detail.)

( Library )
( Bank )
( Cooks )

Veg. - not runners
Spuds
Puds? Ice cream

First 3 items are bracketed together (I assume they're not expecting to find them at Waitrose) Long thin envelope, blue biro, scrawly writing.

littlerach · 10/02/2006 16:32

Finally I can join in.

Do you know how many times I have peered at trolleys in tesco?

And now I have a list!!

A scrap of brown paper, possibly a bit of envelope.
written in blue ink, rather neat writing.

Chicknuggets x 4
sausage rolls - quiche x 2
squash x 2 (obv not a Mnetter!)
Pop x 4 (See above)
crisps x2
fingers - 2x jaffer
3 BDay cakes ( aclue I think)

Balloons x40
Pads x20

Playdo
Paints

Tractor x2

Top - Mac

And the first part of the list is repeated on the other side??
Followed by:
6 meals
apples
toilet rolls
washing up liquid and powder

Bath baby top and toe
nappies
bags wipes.

Golfset
balls
top

vest.

Your thoughts please...

ICindigo · 10/02/2006 17:55

That is a seriously weird list!! obviously a kids birthday party is in the offing... but why 20 pads...?
I was at tesco 2day and didnt see '6 meals' anywhere!!! I have scoured the land for these entire meals and am disappointed to find none!

fullmoonfiend · 11/02/2006 10:33

could be ickle note pads for party bags?

MrsBadger · 11/02/2006 18:10

Got one on the emergency milk dash to Waitrose last night - saw it lying on the pavement outside and had to pretend it was mine and I'd dropped it. Worth it though:

Salad
Potatoes
Veg
Cereal
Meat
Marg
Cheese
Shepherd mix (underlined heavily)
Milk
yogurt
Actimel
Bread

Shepherd mix??
is this something you feed shepherds, is it made of shepherds, or does it enable you to whip up an instant shepherd just by adding boiling water?

Perhaps it's something to serve with Cubes and Wedges

BettySpaghetti · 11/02/2006 19:48

Following on from my recent success in Waitrose last week I've now found one in Morrisons (although technically I should say "we" as DP is on board with this quest -we scoured the trolley parks together with a rather bemused DS in the trolley).

Its written on part of an envelope from the AA (motoring organisation rather than than Alcoholics Anonymous )in blue biro.

100g white/milk choc
butter
light brown soft sugar
golden syrup
self raising flour
cocca powder (presumably mean cocoa powder)
golden gran sugar
evap milk

Reads more like a recipe than a shopping list but what do you make with so many sugars and sweet things?

madmarchhare · 11/02/2006 19:51

Oh definately making something very sweet and sickly there. I left my recipe ingredients in my trolley for some lucky lucky lady to find today .

BettySpaghetti · 11/02/2006 19:54

Maybe we should try a Ready Steady Cook-type challenge and see what we come up with using those ingredients??

Then again, maybe not, as I have enough problems following a proper recipe

Naughtynoonoo · 11/02/2006 20:48

Hello
