Im planign a trip up to nottingham in the new year, if that goes well, I will talk dp into letting me go up again in spring. There is no way I can bring all four, so he would have to look after a couple, or maybe all.

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 21/12/2006 17:12

bugger, bugger, bugger. car has failed its MOT. No more sale shopping for me

largevirginbirthandtonic · 21/12/2006 17:13

Hello ladies....How are the xmas preparations going? I have been manic for days and just had my sister and her bf to stay. I have had no time to catch up on the thread, i hope you are all ok.

Im getting very festive now, made cranberry jam and cranberry sauce today. The xmas food shop list is ridiculous! Im not going this year, dh and his dad are....yay!!!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 21/12/2006 17:21

Thanks lg&t.... [hic]

Kelly, just bring the DTs!

Right... off out shortly so I need to decide how to or whether to glam up!

largevirginbirthandtonic · 21/12/2006 17:28

I just skimmed the thread...lol at all your descriptions of yourselves!!! I would love a meet up, cant wait to meet you all.

I met a fellow mn on tuesday for the first time! It was soooo weird, she is on my antenatal thread and lives in france, but was over seeing family before xmas just round the corner from me! Such a small world we live in, the kids all played in the park, dh's milled around with them, while we chatted and chatted. It was just so strange to put a face to the name, also very weird to be talking about people using their log on names, people must have thought we were nuts

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 21/12/2006 18:27

mmmm mulled wine, love it cheers everyone

More descriptions needed people!

Kelly, bad news about the car but you'll be pleased to hear it is colder up here, -5 when I got in the car this morning (9.45) and hasn't been above freezing all week I don't think, brrrrr!

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 21/12/2006 18:27

You guys make me giggle, love the descriptions and padlocked the doors and windows at the mention of a Scottish meet up. Don't you guys know we talk funny, eat funny and sacrifice children up here !!!!

I would love it, just not quite ready, but soon.......

Tonight DP and I have opened the champagne. We are celebrating. Last year DD was in hospital. At this time she was in an isolation ward, receiving an emergency immunoglobulin infusion, was having heart scans to see if and what heart damage she had, an eye specialist was attending to her to see if her eyes were damaged, a burns specialist was seeing her to treat her wounds, a nutritionist was advising on how to tackle her skeletal appearance, she was on a drip and she had numerous needles in various parts of her body, hadn't spoken for a long while and Christmas was definitely cancelled. We knew she was not at death's door but we had no idea if the treatment would work and if she would have lasting problems.

Tonight she has no lasting problems and has danced to Frank Sinatra with me in the kitchen.

I have much to be thankful for.

DP is here and I don't know how often I can post. Merry Christmas lovely girls, you guys are fantastic! XXX

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 21/12/2006 18:30

wow, fg, I can'e believe it has been a year since she was ill. It's hard to imagine she was ever that poorly seeing her piccie.

I can offer four for the sacrifice I'd be more than ready to give them up if I travelled that far with any of them on my own!

-5?! Now that is why I am not going any further north than the top of the m25!!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 21/12/2006 18:32

Am feeling particularly jolly ce soir as DH brought champagne home with him, is now off til 8 Jan and we're away for xmas, hoorah! We're off to my brother's and his fiancee's new big house in posh wiltshire from sat til day after boxing day, so prob won't post after tomorrow for a few days. The good news is they are both total foodies so should be a good spread bad news is going away means being organised and packing everything, unwrapping it and bringing it all back again & we have to take the dog and if its still foggy the journey will be a nightmare...

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 21/12/2006 18:33

LOL fg I think mention of child sacrifices will only make us more keen to come

Sorry to hear about DD last year, didn't knwo you then but really pleased she has made such a good recovery

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 21/12/2006 19:26

lol!! As if I'd sacrifice your children. I'd make them clean and tidy while we chatted over hula hoops .

You enjoy your Christmas spread, sounds I'm seeing the journey as Chevvy Chase in National Lampoons . Have fun!!

Kelly, I'm feeling quite emotional about it all, but I can't be sad. I well up when I think of it but really, it was an experience I'm all the richer for. Its true it makes you stronger. Sorry about your wagon, I know whats on your Christmas list. What will your Christmas day be?

twinkletwinklelittletracy · 21/12/2006 19:45

Thought I was just about prepared and even felt a bit smug with my tescos delivery booked for tomorrow eve. Then went to Sainsburys to pick up the few bits I didn't want someone else choosing for me and came out having spent A LOT . In my defence, have gone from just us 5 for Xmas lunch to 2 more that day (MIL is coming to us now, and a friend of mine as well) and then BIL + new wife on Boxing day. So I suddenly realised I needed to 'do' Christmas properly

FG, so glad to hear that your DD made such a good recovery from what sounds like an awful illness - didn't know you back then, so don't know the full details.

And saying that, it feels strange that I didn't know you all a year ago - I'm so glad I found you all .

A meet-up next year sounds fab - will try to come along wherever you all end up.

piximon · 22/12/2006 09:07

I never need an excuse to escape! If I were to come I'd leave some at home, no way I could manage all four. Have done several day trips to devon with the other two on the train so I wouldn't rule it out. And I love Scotland...

FG completely forgot to say that I did get to see the pic of your DC the other night, and they are so beautiful, was on DH work pc and it wouldn't let me post on the site. Also I had no idea your DD had been so ill, but am so glad she is well now.

Yesterday was a nightmare. In the morning I had to go to the hospital to be monitored, not easy with two children in tow (three if you include my dad who was more hassle than the children-fiddling with the wires and trying to see how the monitors worked!) Then they missed their afternoon nap and were monsters for the rest of the day.

At least after today I should have some sort of daily help (DH or mum) for the next month.

DHs parents have just decided to come over Xmas day. No idea what time or how long for. Usually they make plans then don't turn up so not stressing just yet.

piximon · 22/12/2006 09:17

FG - after reading about the toilet duck incident I'd have thought cleaning would be the last thing you'd arrange for our children! Sacrifice would be a much cleaner option!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 22/12/2006 10:49

Morning ladies!

So.... come January I shall start researching the Scotland meetup and the Devon meetup!

Now to send my children in different directions. DS1 is off out with his mates. DD1 and DD2 are off to the cinema with their godparents (I chose teenagers when they were born and it just keeps paying dividends). Now... what can I do with the DTs that doesn't involve sacrifice? DT2 has just emptied the contents of all the drawers in his room down the stairs.....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

leomincepiesandbrandybutter · 22/12/2006 11:28

So I missed FGs babies !
The christmas card is great Doris, thanks, but unfortunately I couldn't get any sound out of it!

its really nice to read descriptions of you all! Pixi, I am very happy to read that if I was to make it to a meet up I wouldn't feel as if I was one of the children with everyone esle being so tall !

Me.

Real name is Laura
will be 35 in January
5'3 and a bit
normal weight 57Kg (8stone 9 I think)
current weight 64.4Kg
mid length mousy hair, with growing out highlights (you don't see the grey bits unless you look really carefully as mousy hair looks almost grey anyway!
small head (which makes my nose look big )
Green/grey eyes
hobbies, running, cycling, swimming, (have done triathlons and run marathon), snowboarding, mountainbiking (although all suspended for the time being), also read anything I can get my hands on (although James Joyce beat me!)
Love cooking, but cr@p at cakes.
Holidays - anything that gets me outdoors and active.
I am outwardly untidy, but obsessive about cleanliness and cupboards being tidy.
Due to lack of choice here (unless you have unlimited money) most of my clothes come from H&M or Esprit.

Pregnancy makes me a really different person to how I think of myself usually -
e.g. I am usually really sociable but at the moment a bit of a hermit so not going to say more about my personality

So best things that happened in my life

  • being born in a 'free' country where I am safe from day to day effects of war and othere disasters
  • moving to Switzerland
  • meeting my dh
  • having my lovely darling ds

Worst things

  • getting married at 19 and breaking up at 28 (it still hurts if i think about it)
  • Not resolving my relationship problems with my dad before he died
  • finding myself in a career that is completely unsuitable for me.
Overrunderthemistletoe · 22/12/2006 13:22

Hello all, christmas and having dh around more has kept me pretty busy. So will probably not even try to read back through all the posts, but have read enough to know that you are all sharing descriptions, and talking about child sacrifice
Well some of you will have seen my photo, but here goes anyway.

5.4 and a half, size 12.
Short brown hair, usually with some red, copper or blond streaks in it. Ex goth, so tend to dress on the black side, but can sometimes go for a really colourful option.
No make up in the day, but pretty exotic make up when I go out.
Drink more than some but nearly as much as I used to do, was a total ladette. Now enjoy french red wine, sparkling white (quite happy with a good cava, but love champagne). I also like german wheat beers and real ales.
Food wise, love it love it, and love cooking it. Eat and make all sorts, but we eat loads of fruit and veg because I am a devotee of the 10/10 club.
Taking dts to soft play now, bye

piximon · 22/12/2006 13:31

Agh my dad came over this morning and DS begged to go with him to his chores (dropping off library books/grocery shopping) so my dad took him. He's never looked after him alone before and as he is registered disabled if DS runs off I'll never see him again.
Should be using the time to relax but can't. DD is having a nap and my best friend was supposed to be coming over today but has only just got up and is going to see Iron Maiden later so I've been blown out.

Mars- sounds like your DTs are feeling better. I'd could definately be roped into a Devon meet. I'll have to get down there eventually to show off the DTs to my grandparents. Only know the area they live but there's a big free play park and a place which does free softplay if you buy a cup of coffee. Worst problem is trying to find somewhere to stay without too many stairs.

Leo-also glad to hear I have a fellow shorty.

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 22/12/2006 17:25

You girls are frightening me!!! I'm just not ready for real life meet ups , you're rushing me, you're rushing me! Its only been .......nearly 2 years .

Loving the descriptions. Mars, you must try harder .

You will meet up without children won't you?

HarktheHarrogateMumisSinging · 22/12/2006 20:18

actually yes, meeting up without kids would be better, wouldnt it FG!

Dont worry, we will wear you down and force you to agree to it eventually!

And you know, its true HArrogate is lovely and it is very much in the middle of the country!!!

DH is cooking tea (fajitas) as I have had a bit of a go at him for not helping to write any Xmas cards or buy and wrap any Xmas presents!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 22/12/2006 20:41

I am NEVER going away for Christmas again!!!!!!!!! I have spent all day washing, ironing, packing and nagging DH, who like HD has written no cards, wrapped & bought no presents (other than mine ) and announced at lunchtime that he thought he might nip up to see his parents this afternoon anyway I put him straight on that and the car is loaded up, full of stuff to take 300 miles south, unwrap and bring back again NEVER AGAIN!!!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 22/12/2006 21:10

Won't be around til 27/28th I think so have a lovely Christmas everyone, eat, drink, be merry and let the DTs go nuts with the relatives for a bit

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 22/12/2006 21:35

Merry merry Christmas LapinRose!

Have a good one

leomincepiesandbrandybutter · 23/12/2006 09:21

HAve fun Lapinrose!

Dh has also done no buying of presents (including no present for me!) or wrapping them or card writing, so I've done what is important for me and his is up to him to do.

He has gone off with ds this morning to do final bits of shopping, the most important of which is to visit our b&q equivalent and buy a drill which is on special offer !

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 23/12/2006 16:01

Have fun dingdong! Leo, is your DH intending releasing pent up emotions by screwing and drilling his way through the festivities? [innocent emoticon]

Is it too early for that type of chat, I mean, I hardly know you girls .....
