You sound or are trying to sound as though you are slowly getting more in control?.. I'm not sure which, obviously you want to get a bit beyond this point..if you need any other help in RL for anyone to be there then i will be there..xxx

Have been thinking about you a lot, JT - in fact I was thinking about you at 5am this morning (couldn't sleep).

I think you're wise to get the test. It just means that you have a clear slate when you get the results back. It is scary, waiting for the results - I've had an HIV test and I was scared to death but once you have the all-clear it's one less thing to think about.

Just keep going - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (or so they say!) You're doing brilliantly.

Hi, JT - good to hear you sounding "ok" although I'm sorry sleep is still so bad. (Not surprised mind you - it's still not very long ago.)

I don't think I would trust a DIY kit off the internet - would worry that I'd done it wrong - I think if you're going to do it at all you need to grit your teeth, hold your head up, and sail through the NHS experience so you know it's done properly.

I have just asked dh (microbiologist) and he said your GP can take a blood sample and send it to the hospital for you (he can't do the test himself though). I would make another appointment with your GP, explain how upsetting you found your experience at the hospital and ask if he can do it instead.

Dh says while he doesn't know anything about the reliability of home testing he'd be extremely wary of using something like that.

HTH.
