Universal credit managed migration thread

1000 replies

ChristmasCatBells · 28/06/2023 14:50

Anyone else waiting for a migration notice this year?
Looks like they are planning to move people on tax credits only onto universal credit this year but haven't released any detailed timetables about areas.
Thought it might be useful to share experiences and information on here for those affected.

@IWannaShout yes think it’ll just close the claim.

someone up thread had the same query.

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 18:53

@Rummikub thank you. I might give them a call in the next couple of weeks just to confirm.

Bemyclementine · 27/07/2023 18:54

@IWannaShout the lady today said if I don't claim by the deadline my TC will just stop at the deadline.

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 18:54

@Bemyclementine thank you

Bemyclementine · 27/07/2023 18:55

@Rummikub

So as long as I apply by my deadline of 31st September then the transitional arrangements will be applied? that's what she told me today!

Rummikub · 27/07/2023 19:02

Thank you clementine!

im always such a nervous wreck when dealing with anything official for myself.

I’ll have to check what’s required so there’s no delay if I apply on the 30th!

im presuming they’ll send the last two weeks of TC as mine gets paid mid week I think.

catrescuelady · 27/07/2023 19:20

I own a run down second property worth 35k that I am trying to sell. Due to this I won't be eligible for UC. Wonder if the protection is still available for a year. I am a carer to my disabled child. Earning £110 a week.

Bemyclementine · 27/07/2023 19:36

@Rummikub me too, I panic whenever a brown envelope comes through the door.

Bemyclementine · 27/07/2023 19:37

Oh and I was told 5 weeks turnaround time today, aslong as youre promot with providing info. You get an online account "journal" and manage the claim from there.

Babyroobs · 27/07/2023 21:27

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 18:39

Does anyone know, if you don't apply for UC will tax credits just stop? I don't want to apply for UC and don't get much tax credits any way but just wondering what will happen if I don't claim uc before the deadline

Yes tax credits will stop straight away unless a last payment has just been issued. You can apply for a Uc advance to tide you over the five week wait for first payment if you need to.

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 21:32

Thanks @Babyroobs
I'm due a significant pay rise in the next few
Months so I won't be entitled to UC then so it's not worth applying for a month or so,
So I'll continue with TC until that ends in September and just not apply for UC

Rummikub · 27/07/2023 22:48

@Rummikub me too, I panic whenever a brown envelope comes through the door.

Ha me too!! I don’t like post anyway and the brown ones give me the fear!

Rummikub · 27/07/2023 22:50

The journal part worries me too. I’m awful at being organised.

Sherrycat · 27/07/2023 23:28

Does everybody migrating have to have a face to face interview? I have terrible social anxiety. 😫

Please don't worry about the journal. it is really easy to use and can save you time holding on the phone for hours if you have any problems as your case manager can respond to you on the journal. You just need to keep checking the to do list regularly.

Maybe only to show initial ID documents, but I have helped a lady to apply recently who had MH problems and they were really good with her and did all the Id checks over the phone so that she didn't have to go in to the jobcentre.

Rummikub · 27/07/2023 23:36

Thanks @Babyroobs

i think it’s the checking I’ll have a problem with. If there’s an email prompt then that might work.

Now I’ve changed my married name back to my maiden name on my TC do you think that’ll be fine now? I realised I had no photo ID on my married name. Besides I’m divorced now!

I don’t like speaking on the phone either lol.

Rummikub · 27/07/2023 23:41

How do they do ID checks over the phone?

i realise that’s I struggle a lot with change and the unknown. And this isn’t usual!

Same! I like to know exactly what to expect in situations or I feel nervous.

Rummikub · 28/07/2023 00:46

sherrycat glad I’m not alone.

I wonder if this is why I’ve stayed in the same job!

Bemyclementine · 28/07/2023 07:11

The lady did make it sound a much easier process. You get a text when you need to look at the journal.

I don't know about the face to face thing. I'm hoping not.

@Rummikub i knjw what you mean, I'm overwhelmed thus week by the amount of "life admin" I've had to do. None if it was as bad as I'd built it up to be but it was all big stuff (to me)

you're definitely not alone, my daughter isn’t particularly happy in her job, but because she’s been there for quite some time & is confident in what she does, she doesn’t want to go anywhere else.
I wfh & the thought of outside employment gives me shudders!

Hi - a little update on my progress so far (for anyone in a similar situation).
Had my f-2-f 'further evidence' appointment the other day. Had to provide 3 months worth of statements for all accounts I had any money in, including proof of my (over 16k) savings.

Got myself into a state thinking they were going to be basically judging my spending etc. But the very nice lady just had a quick look, and I was in and out in 15 mins. And yesterday received a message saying they only take into consideration the first 6k - 16k (money is deducted) but i'm allowed whatever extra for the first transitional year, so that's good.

As others have said, sveryone's actually been very pleasant to deal with so far.

Still got one more mtg next week as i'm self-employed, will update again if anyone's interested.

For me, the worst parts of this have been the CTC stopping immediately and the 5 week wait for UC. Otherwise not too bad tbh.

Thanks for posting, I’m a nervous wreck thinking about it all. Do you mind if I ask you what happened at the first meeting please?
