Universal credit managed migration thread

ChristmasCatBells · 28/06/2023 14:50

Anyone else waiting for a migration notice this year?
Looks like they are planning to move people on tax credits only onto universal credit this year but haven't released any detailed timetables about areas.
Thought it might be useful to share experiences and information on here for those affected.

TC's stop the moment you submit the UC claim. I think it's a 5 or so week for first UC payment.

Hi,

in a similar position here. I’m debating on whether to bother migrating at all. Do TCs just stop and you drop off the radar so to speak?

We received our migration letter in beginning of October and received three lots of tax credits (monthly) and then they stop. We left it as long as possible to apply so applied late December. On your migration letter there will be a deadline... for me it was 6th January. In the meantime we also received a couple of reminder letters leading up to Christmas.

Got my letter.

Thanks to all those giving such helpful advice.

Pretty stressed here, single parent, employed And self-employed. Get an essential chunk of TC but all calculators say I'll get almost nothing on UC. Savings under 16k. Do they take house capital into account?

Oo same as me re. employed and self employed!
I've got my appt a week tomorrow, so will let you know how i get on.

If by 'house capital' you mean the home you live in, no thats irrelevant.

A house you live in is disregarded.

hi @Jellykat yes I'd be very interested to hear how you get on. I'm self employed as a gardener so almost no income in Dec and Jan, and not a lot in Nov and Feb... took an employed job on to help smooth this out - but makes life complicated- tax credit, tax return and now this... will not mind if I still get some help 🤞🤞🤞

Jellykat · 10/01/2024 19:50

Ahaa @colouringindoors i'm in the same boat - seasonal work!
Luckily having been a lone parent for 35 years, my DC have fled the nest, so i've not got that to worry about anymore.. will defo let you know end of next week!

Blubberduck · 10/01/2024 22:56

Any foster carers on here?
Have a few questions around work commitments whilst fostering

megletthesecond · 12/01/2024 07:31

Does anyone know why I have received my normal tax credits payment when I submitted my universal credit application on Sunday? I won't spend it as I suspect it's an error.
I was under the impression there was no overlap once UC is applied for. I have my ID appointment today.

Singleandproud · 12/01/2024 07:51

I still got mine the week I applied as well as a large payment as they had been under paying me.

megletthesecond · 12/01/2024 08:44

Thanks single. I will leave it but cross my fingers it's confirmed legit at a later date.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 12/01/2024 10:13

I also got my usual Tax Credits payment today after applying for UC this week. We have to attend an appointment at the job centre to confirm ID next week, DH has had to book holiday from work, hopefully that doesn’t happen too often.

purpleme12 · 12/01/2024 10:32

Guessing the tax credit payment was already in the banking system when you applied for UC so too late to stop it going through

malok1 · 15/01/2024 11:19

I have been asked to come for "standard identity appointment in a jobcentre" even i tried to do it online through gateway id, it still told me that we will call you and this morning they sent a text saying i have standard identity appointment, is it just id check or work commitments appointment too ?

Why they still asked me to come when i signed in to gateway id when i submitted the claim, husband did the same but his was verified straight away through gateway id. Anyone with similar experience or in similar situation ?

Bromptotoo · 15/01/2024 12:57

I don't think one can easily say why some people get called to ID appointment and others do not. Given issues with fraud, eg during the pandemic, they probably have to have several 'matches' as well as physical documents like a driving licence or passport. Pretty routine and I don't think you need to worry.

Allyballybee445 · 15/01/2024 14:30

Claimed last night which was the last day for migration and received an appointment today for a commitment meeting on Thursday the 18th January and to bring a fit note with me as I informed them I have health conditions. What is the commitment meeting and also what will happen if I do not manage to get a fit note in time for the meeting.

Bromptotoo · 15/01/2024 15:40

@Allyballybee445 every claimant for UC has to have a commitment agreement. The DWP says this is about 'what you do in exchange for the benefit'. If you're unemployed then seeking/taking work will be part of it. If you're unwell then it might involve activity to get you back into work.

If you're seen as working enough it's probably no more than to keep in touch.

As to the fit note as long as you've done what you can in terms of calling (in at?) the surgery I'd expect them to give you a reasonable amount of wiggle room.

malok1 · 15/01/2024 15:49

@Allyballybee445 would you mind telling me what exactly it says about the appointment as mine says exactly as "STANDARD IDENTITY APPOINTMENT" doesn't say anything about commitment at all.

Allyballybee445 · 15/01/2024 15:54

@malok1
Prepare for and attend your First Commitments appointment in a jobcentre
At this appointment you will agree your claimant commitment with your work coach. This is your record of the responsibilities that you accept in return for receiving Universal Credit.

Complete any unfinished to-dos in your to-do list. This will save you time at your appointment.

If you do not attend this appointment you may not get Universal Credit

This is because you must agree and then accept your claimant commitment to get Universal Credit. If you do not accept your claimant commitment, your claim may be closed.

If you cannot attend this appointment, use your journal to tell us as soon as possible.

Allyballybee445 · 15/01/2024 16:04

@Bromptotoo I take it if you do not agree with the commitments set out by the work coach you get no money.
What would the activities for getting back into work involve ?

I'm following as I'm expecting to get my migration notice soon.

I don't have an answer therefore, but would have thought it would depend upon the nature of your health issue. e.g. You have a temporary condition expected to improve in a few months, or a long term health issue in which case you might be entitled to Low Capability for Working.

Do you currently get PIP or other benefit? I would imagine that would play a part in whats expected. I've just been awarded enhanced PIP myself, and it's a lifetime / indefinite award, so I wouldn't be expecting to be pushed forward for work myself. My PIP claim and evidence makes it very clear that I'm not able to work. I think it's going to depend on your personal circumstances. It's just bloody awful not knowing what the expectations are, isn't it?

Allyballybee445 · 15/01/2024 16:26

@RainbowZebraWarrior It is a long term health condition I have been unable to work for 8 years I get ADP as I am in Scotland but from what I have heard they do not take this or receiving PIP into consideration as lots of working disabled people get this so it does not necessary mean you can not work.
I wrongly presumed the years transitional protection meant nothing would change lesson learned.

megletthesecond · 15/01/2024 16:51

To be fair, I've ticked the work commitments box, without any intention of doing so, as it wouldn't let me proceed without ticking it.
But I also filled in my journal letting them know I can't work extra hours due to my teens MH and my own health issues. Not heard back about that yet. I daresay I'll find out before long.

Correct. being in receipt of a disability benefit won't exempt you completely from having work commitment appointments until you have been assessed for work and awarded LCWRA. Until then they may still ask you to attend some appointments ( maybe by phone). It can take some months to be assessed. Your work coach is unlikely to push you to do anything much if you are handing in sick notes.

Is your teen getting DLA ? If not then this is not going to exempt you although a sympathetic work coach can reduce commitments. If your own health limits how many hours you can work then you need to hand in sick notes although you'd only be assessed if earning less than 16 x nmw per week or if you are in receipt of a disability benefit in which case you can start the work capability process regardless of how many hours you work.
