@Unicorn2022 it's my first year holding premium bonds. Is the Christmas draw special? Are there more prizes?

UrsulaPandress · 25/10/2022 18:47

Nope

dogmum00 · 26/10/2022 08:16

Do you find out if you've won anything the same date each month? Also when you say you check the app, do you mean going in and checking prize history? I normally don't know until I get an email but not sure how late that email is coming out

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/10/2022 09:34

I usually put up a link for that months high winners and that goes to £1k

thwt is shown the first working day of the month

obv lots of prizes £500 £100 £50 £25 that aren’t on that link

the app will show second working day of month if win a small prize

and will get a laughing lady in the rain - holding a carrot or think a boy and boat if won and and the amount

Unfortunately not but I just meant they might as well try their luck for December's draw too, as a month's interest in a savings account is barely anything.

£50k holdings at 2.99% with My HSBC bonus saver = £124.58 guaranteed.
Given I have had less than that over 3 months, I think I may be changing my approach of late.

It maybe a different account but my hsbc online bonus saver only pays 2.99% on the first 10k. It’s less on anything above that.

Good spot!

Premium bonds it is then! lol

BarbaraofSeville · 26/10/2022 12:05

There's also the santander account that pays 2.75%. You should get more than PBs unless you get a larger prize as 2.75% on £10k for example is £275 per year or about the same as a £25 prize each month which you probably won't get on that amount.

However if you do have tens of £k in savings, you might start pay tax on your interest, so might want to look at ISAs or leave your money in PBs.

ServerSurfer · 26/10/2022 16:30

Zopa offers 2.15% on instant access savings, which is £90 pm on full holdings!

You could put it in a 95-day-access account and get £106 pm guaranteed ☺️

mistopheles · 26/10/2022 16:35

I've had about 8,000 for 30 years. Used to win £25 regularly but not so much now. Biggest win was £250 about 20 years ago. I'd forgotten about them till I read this post. Maybe it's my turn!

True but so far my 40k has returned approx 3% and next week i will be mortgage free, a new car and on holiday after i become MN first £1m PB winner.

Notmenottodaynotever · 26/10/2022 22:56

I've had mine for almost a year now - any ideas how I could work out how much my winnings would have been converted to an interest rate? (It was certainly a good idea when I took them out compared to the interest rates I could get!)

Crazymadchickenlady · 27/10/2022 00:12

Winnings divided how many bonds you have then times the answer to that by 100

Ekátn · 27/10/2022 05:15

In a year my return is 3.85%. Almost half of which came from a £500 win. It’s where I keep my tax bill money and far better than a return I would have had keeping elsewhere.

But it can easily go the other way. Last month was my worst month for a while. Hoping my luck picks up again before I pay my tax bill.

Would be amazing if the money waiting to be paid in tax won me a million pounds 😂

BarbaraofSeville · 27/10/2022 06:47

My return over the past few years has been 2% in 2019, 6% in 2020 due to a £1k prize and 0.6% in 2021, but I think that was similar to the best available instant access accounts.

So far in 2022 I've won £225 on an average balance of around £30k, so not terrible but falling behind what I'd get from my Santander account.

I'm hoping for one of those more frequent £50 or £100 prizes but I think I'm waiting for the November draw and the likely next interest rate rise and then will pay off the mortgage with most of the money as it's a low margin lifetime tracker that's cost pretty much nothing for over a decade but is now looking expensive and more importantly, more than putting the money in savings instead.

janett2 · 27/10/2022 10:36

When will agent million visit for this month ? Tomorrow or 31st November ?

No 31st of November. 😀

janett2 · 27/10/2022 10:57

Thanks :) Every month I expect Agent million but only the Amazon delivery guy visits our home 😂

Nadal · 28/10/2022 18:51

So is Agent Million due on Halloween along with the trick or treaters?? Damn. Wish I had a ring doorbell now as wasn't planning on answering the door 👻

Myleakycauldron · 28/10/2022 18:55

i'm WFH Monday so will be ready for an early visit from agent million. Hoping for a bumper month today to make up for a streak of poor wins! Otherwise I will be doing some research on other savings options.

alwayscheery · 28/10/2022 19:33

I'm Going to cash my £50k in
£600 one year
200 ish most other years
Sainsburys offering 2.75
And various offerings fixed for a year just over 4 /4.5 %
Is the 2nd of the month the best day to cash them in.
I might set up a standing order and start again.

Ames85 · 28/10/2022 21:57

@alwayscheery you can do the cash in instruction online today and tick the box for it to be done immediately after this draw

alwayscheery · 28/10/2022 22:12

@Ames85 thanks that's really helpful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2022 09:06

I know banks have better interest rates and obv I don’t have anywhere near £50k to get lots of interest

but I love the thrill of what if ……

gives me excitement two days a month

I don’t count million day as very unlikely to get that

but love the high winners

then low £25 etx
