Hope you've all had a good August. I made £563.92 which I'm happy with, especially considering I've had the kids home full time. Hoping to make a similar amount in September as although they're back at school next week, I am taking a week off at the end of the month to prepare for my hubby's 40th birthday (cake baking, finishing off some DIY projects, and a little weekend away 😊)

SSci was my best earner at £443.59, followed by Crisp at £111.84 and I did a few little Prolific surveys to make £8.49. I am going to make more of an effort to pick up Crisp shifts this month and managed a last minute one this morning which earned me just over £10 for the hour and a good start to the month Smile

Hi, is anyone doing P*m* task on Appn? Just wondering how long you spend on each page as it's paid per hour not per task?

TheresALight · 01/09/2022 09:40

Opps, my asterisks didn't work. It's the task that sounds like a candy cane flavour

ThinkingDifferent · 01/09/2022 11:36

My August wasn't great. In fact the last couple of months or so I've been slacking. Ready to make September different. It's just waiting forever for projects to come through on Appen. It was my biggest earner.

Buster27 · 01/09/2022 11:56

Thanks for the new thread @ruralwanderer - sounds like a successful month!

My August wasn't great, for various reasons I was only able to book Crisp shifts for one week (one week I just completely forgot about the shift drop which was annoying Blush), and then I wasn't proactive enough about picking up random shifts or finding other work to do.

I did make around £330 between Crisp, Appen, Prolific and Vinted which is good, but not close to my £600 target. We had budgeted for me earning less until Sept so now I really do have to knuckle down again, especially as we're hoping to get away for a little break next month.

Going to try my best for £800, but ideally would be closer to 1k. Have some Crisp shifts booked in for later this week, made a Vinted sale this morning and picked up a couple of Prolifics so off to a decent start.

ruralwanderer · 01/09/2022 12:05

Booking shifts is so difficult! Hope you manage to get some each week for this month 👌

OP posts:
MrsWombat · 01/09/2022 15:50

August was the best month for a while which was great considering I've was away a couple of times.

£205 on printables and print on demand stuff - lots of people buying summer t shirts and back to school stuff. (Last August my figure for this was £20!)
£131 uTest
£35 on Prolific

SilverWing · 01/09/2022 19:28

Here’s hoping we are all off to a great month 😊
Ive made around £800 this month.
Not having much luck with Utest, it takes soooo long and often I find nothing and it was a waste of my time. So only £20 there this month.

Can’t make up my mind about print on demand at all, or perhaps even printing myself. Seems to work well for some but I can’t figure out a niche.

Im not able to work out of home at the moment and ds has a school camp trip coming up I need to save for too, so really need to up my game somewhere!

SummerHolidaysAgain · 02/09/2022 08:23

I got an invite to the Chinese App*n. Has anyone else had this? Has anyone joined?

SlurpSlooChortle · 02/09/2022 08:32

@MrsWombat

I read your helpful advice about printable and had a dream last night that I started doing it and woke up feeling like I want to explore this! Smile

Thanks so much for the info that you shared on the previous thread. I found it really interesting and useful.

Was just thinking the same thing! I seem to recall some are not a fan of the China stuff but can't remember why now.

Buster27 · 02/09/2022 13:18

@SummerHolidaysAgain Quite a few people looked into Appen China at one point, most decided against it. IIRC you had to install some kind of software that could only be removed by resetting your laptop to factory settings. I'm not sure if that was just a requirement for certain project(s) or the whole platform though. The pay rate for the projects offered at the time were also crap.

I'm pretty sure a couple of people on the threads did do some work on there but didn't get paid - not sure if they did manage to get it at a later date or not.

SilverWing · 02/09/2022 13:56

I got the China email too, I’m going to give it as miss. I googled it and the reviews are not good

SummerHolidaysAgain · 02/09/2022 15:25

An ok thanks for the update. I’ll give it a miss.

New to all of this but hoping to earn some money while being at home with a chronically ill child.

However, I'm feeling deflated after trying to register with WWW - I've failed the audio quiz & have no idea what should have been done differently. I was going to register with Rev too but don't know if I should bother now.

I've been a SAHM for 12 years so am feeling a bit inadequate & skill-less. I'm going through the uTest process but tbh I'm already feeling like I won't have a clue.

Any advice for something to start with that can build my confidence & get my brain fire up again?

Hi Brian, don't be disheartened, those of us working in transcription have also failed them. Just keep going.

Would start with Prolific and Intellizoom as gentle intros although there may or may not be a waiting list.

But keep asking here, as you can see we are a helpful bunch and no snark.

Wishing you all the good karma points for your home situation x

BrainFoggerty · 02/09/2022 18:45

Thank you @DeegeeDee Also, that's a bit of a relief to hear, I thought my brain had shrivelled to pea sized.

There is a waitlist for Prolific but I'll sign up to various sites & hope some things come through. I know if I get to actually do some stuff I'll feel more confident, just been a long time.

SilverWing · 02/09/2022 19:32

It seems most people struggle with the WWW audio test, so don’t be disheartened. I passed it, but I have no idea how! I’m still in training but I don’t know how I’m doing it, I didn’t even get my English GCSE. 😳

Baby89 · 02/09/2022 19:46

Place making

ruralwanderer · 02/09/2022 20:04

@BrainFoggerty, sorry to hear about your child, must be very tough! The WWW test is notoriously difficult to pass (I like many others have failed it twice now and given up) and I would echo Prolific and Intellizoom as being the gentlest way to ease into this type of work. Good luck and welcome to the thread Flowers

BrainFoggerty · 02/09/2022 22:24

@SilverWing thank you, made me smile. I'm telling myself they're not actually recruiting so are just forcing fails

@ruralwanderer thanks for the welcome & reassurance. We're hoping for a better than 40% attendance school year so 🤞 Be good to have other distractions so I'll plug away at various things. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Milesty1 · 02/09/2022 22:35

So happy to find this thread! About to start Vinted selling and I’ve joined some survey sites. Really need to pay off debts before winter…. Does anyone know what SSci is please?

ruralwanderer · 03/09/2022 07:51

@Milesty1, SSci is Search Sciences. It's my main income and I really enjoy it. It's essentially writing internet content to specific briefs and deadlines. It's no longer on the recommended list though as several posters who signed up experienced issues getting paid for their work. I've had no such trouble and hope to continue doing it for as long as possible.

stillherenow · 03/09/2022 14:52

I've had a bit of a break over the summer and have earnt £35 on prolific and the bare minimum of about £30 on potatoes. Planning to ramp up again next week though. I've signed up for a ton of stuff on Appen, I keep getting emails about at**s, anyone doing this ?

YonderTweek · 03/09/2022 17:35

Hello! I'm going to see if I can make any money this month. I've had a shocking year in terms of earning because most of my Ap projects ended in Feb/March and I just haven't been able to get on to new ones. Sad I'm still doing A**r and bits and bobs here and there, but I've mostly focused on looking after DC and trying to sort out a crazy house move. Would love to get back into this though, so I'll have to go through the links list again.

Hope everyone has a great month!
