Major changes to Premium Bonds. Higher interest for prize fund 2.2% taxfree (was 1.4%). Odds shortened per bond per month 24,000:1 (was 24,500:1). More bigger prizes esp. £50 and £100. With £50k on average 3 or 4 x£50 prizes; 3 or 4x£100 prizes and 17 or 18x£25 prizes per year.

Typical it's gone up so much the month after I withdrew £30k!!

Same here! But reading that the £25 prizes have gone down... I'm still happy with my money being in my Zopa savings at 2.05%, and keeping an eye on rates as they keep rising.

I don’t think the £25 have gone down

Notably, there will be 18 £100,000 prizes from 10 in September, and 35 £50,000 prizes, up from 20.

There will also be 19 times' as many £50 and £100 prizes paid out from October, while there will be 1.3million fewer £25 prizes.

This is the second time NS&I have hiked the prize fund rate this year.

It previously increased the prize fund rate on Premium Bonds from 1 per cent to 1.4 per cent in June. The odds at that time changed from 34,500 to 1 to 24,500 to 1.

So more chance if winning £50 then £25

There's a lot fewer £25 prizes (about 1.3 million) but there's a lot more £50 and £100 prizes (about 1.4 million more).

In the past almost all the small prizes have been £25 or multiples of £25, rather than single prizes of £50 or £100. I've won a fair few £25 prizes, but have never had an individual £50 or £100 prize.

So to me it looks like there's a slightly larger chance of winning one or more small prizes, but a much larger chance that one or more of those prizes will be £50 or £100 instead of £25, so should be good for those of us who have PBs as an alternative to a conventional instant access savings account.

But we'll see next week.

Mixed views on this, what's people opinions

RockaLock · 28/09/2022 15:18

There are more prizes overall, so you have a better chance of your bond being drawn and winning a prize.

Plus, the value of the prizes has gone up a lot.

So it's all good as far as I can see.

Great news on the increase. I have had a drought lately so fingers crossed this month. Praying for something to celebrate

I'm very interested to see how October's draw plays out with the new prize distribution. Hopefully we will win more!

OneFrenchEgg · 28/09/2022 20:12

Oooh it's that exciting time of the month now when I count the last few days down and get excited over maybe winning £25 😂

FlippertyGibberts · 28/09/2022 20:23

My Prize checker app says results on Tuesday 4th October - so, all prizes including low value ones on Tuesday 4th October.

High value prizes on Monday 3rd October.

When will the millionaires be told, on Sunday 2nd October?

I can't remember how this usually works around weekends.

Igmum · 28/09/2022 20:33

I thought the big prizes got told on the last Thursday of the month. I just happen to be WFH tomorrow Grin

OneFrenchEgg · 28/09/2022 21:09

I just googled - Facebook page had lots of good questions! Don't worry, they try again later. And you have to show ID and prove who you are.

Gosh, the last working day of the month. I really don't understand why it's all so drawn out 😄.
