£50 for me and DH and we have just about full holdings between us, ear marked for a tax bill and house renovations.

I'm hoping for a big win before we need to cash them in Wink

Allicando · 04/09/2022 15:15

Another £50 for me for the fourth month running on 16k. So much better than my bloody ISA!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 04/09/2022 16:42

£25 on max holdings this month.

Chanel05 · 04/09/2022 17:41

@Eaumyword second baby due in December so it'll make it a little easier getting him a few nice bits 🙂.

Don't despair if you’ve not done well today. About 4 months ago my husband got a cheque for £25 weeks after the draw (normally any winnings are paid direct to our bank) because the bond-holder couldn’t be found. So it’s possible to get unexpected money further down the line. Admittedly this is the first and only time it has ever happened to us, but I suppose it does occur sometimes - and maybe for large amounts.

Is it more likely that the deposit into your husband’s bank account failed, therefore they had to send a cheque?

Silkierabbit · 04/09/2022 23:08

£50 on full holdings.

losingit31 · 05/09/2022 18:07

Me, DH and my parents all have full holdings.
Me - £25
DH - £25
Mum - £25
Dad - £0
So £75 on a total investment of £200,000 is pretty rubbish!

My total for the 9 draws this year is £150 and DH has had £300.

It's my first month with premium bonds and I have full holdings. Won £600 and DH won £125 (with full holdings) this month. A happy day for us yesterday!

Congratulations - that sounds like a very happy day.

So another half % on the base rate, are we going to see a rise in the prize rate now?

Ha ha what do you think?

TBH Some savings rates are far in excess of PB average payouts, albeit without the possibility of a large win.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2022 09:16

That would be nice

plus sept is 30 days

It's been a while since PB have increased the max holdings, do you think we will see an increase?

That's interesting - it does make it less attractive to people like me who might have a few thousand they could get to but a spare £40k plus - not a chance. I wonder what the impact is of raising it on smaller investors?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2022 14:39

I’ve said before I couldn’t imagine having £50k in savings /bp

I hold max savings due it being my holding pen for my tax bill. If this were not the case, and I did not need it in 8 months, no way on earth would I be holding PB's.

That’s exactly what mine are.

Pemba · 24/09/2022 10:39

Surely they wouldn't increase the maximum holdings as that would have the effect of putting off the smaller investors? People would probably think 'What's the point, somebody with many tens of thousands is just going to scoop up all the prizes each time, I might as well withdraw my money'.

You already see that a large proportion of the top prizes are taken up by people with the full £50,000. I don't think increasing full holdings would be in the spirit in which Premium Bonds were originally set up.

But as we've seen this week, the government are capable of doing many unexpected and stupid things, so who knows?

torthecatlady · 24/09/2022 10:51

They increased it from £40k to £50k a few years ago, it would be interesting to see the statistics from back then. If it did put off smaller investors, then I guess it'll be very unlikely that they would increase it again.

Pemba · 24/09/2022 11:08

I also wonder if they'll ever increase the top prizes?

A few decades ago £1million would have been utterly life transforming, now (although it would be lovely! ) not so much really. Many quite ordinary houses in London seem to cost a million or more.

So winning the top prize is not the same as it once was.

I'd be happy if there were more millionaires each month and maybe more in between prizes. I have never won anything other than £25 or multiples of, I think most people are the same.

OneFrenchEgg · 24/09/2022 12:18

Impact
10.1 The increase in the Premium Bond maximum investment limit is one part of wider measures announced for NS&I customers in the 2014 Budget. Minimal impact on the UK savings market is anticipated as a result of these changes. NS&I will continue to balance the interests of its savers by offering a fair rate; the taxpayer by delivering cost-effective finance; and the stability of the broader savings market by acting transparently and maintaining an appropriate competitive position. There is no impact on charities or voluntary bodies.
10.2 There is no impact on the public sector.
10.3 An Impact Assessment has not been prepared for this instrument.

From the 2014 Regulations

losingit31 · 24/09/2022 12:30

We have left our bonds where they are for now but the rest of our savings have just been moved into a 3.2% one year fixed bond. Unless we win £1000 between now and December, PBs have been a massive disappointment this year.

Where do you find 3.2% please?

Yep - so why don't you all invest somewhere else then?

Nice that you're all so rich though.

Well, this thread isn't really for questioning someone else's savings / investment choices - it's for sharing some of the pre- draw hopes and post-draw celebrations or commiserations. And posters on the thread will have a range of holdings.
