Oodie

cafedesreves · 08/03/2022 19:34

I cannot put this under style and beauty as an Oodie is neither stylish nor beautiful 😂 but I'm utterly horrified by our energy costs and am wondering whether to buy an Oodie. Obviously I don't have a spare £60 so was wondering if anyone has any good leads for knock offs? I want to feel wonderfully snug without the heating on ideally!

We can see this thread is a little old, but if you’ve landed here looking for current Oodie alternatives, including more budget-friendly recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best blanket hoodie page with lots of great options, as rated and loved by Mumsnet users. We hope it helps Flowers

I got ours from online home store for £13 and I promise you can't tell the difference. Warm, soft and wash very well. We were the envy of the campsites last year

Theunamedcat · 08/03/2022 21:10

You can get dress length ones but I prefer my £13 amazon knock off one and thick pjs

iRun2eatCake · 08/03/2022 21:11

I don't "get" it...

Why not just wear a jumper?

I'm just not warm enough!

That’s like saying why not have a piece of dry toast instead of a full Sunday roast (including crumble for dessert).

Oodies and jumpers aren’t in the same class

Thisislifefornow · 08/03/2022 21:17

Had mine from Amazon £25 , fantastic I now have 2 as I can't be without it. Heating rarely on these days because I'm always warm.

Datsandcogs · 08/03/2022 21:18

My DDs had genuine ones for Christmas. They are very different in personality and size but they both adore them and wear them most days.

I was sceptical until I saw their reactions and felt them. I bought this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09K5KZM27/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
It is not the same but still very good. Beautifully soft, quite a lot longer but with shorter arms and wider arm holes (no cuffs). It’s only a layer in thickness but works well over other clothes or sleepwear. The length is better, the arms are not as good, being a single layer is fine when worn over other things. Usually I don’t like copycat products but this one holds it’s own, especially being so much cheaper at £26!

HollowTalk · 08/03/2022 21:19

Is anyone else wondering how the hell they could take it off quickly if someone knocked at the door?!

cafedesreves · 08/03/2022 21:19

Now how can I make sure my toddler is warm? He couldn't deal with an oodie 😂

SouthParkCovid · 08/03/2022 21:20

Ive got a kuddly one. They're a bit cheaper and have better reviews than the oodie.

DD has a primark one and loves it!

Why would you need to take it off to answer the door .
CarsonsHat · 08/03/2022 21:23

I got a cheap imitation version for Christmas. I love it - its totally snug and gorgeous

GirlAtHome71 · 08/03/2022 21:24

I love my Kuddly! So warm and washes really well

Ted27 · 08/03/2022 21:24

If I took mine off to answer the door the unfortunate person would get an eyeful of my bra

You can get kid sized ones!
BertieBotts · 08/03/2022 21:40

I have an Ikea one that DH got me for Christmas. It's brilliant, just like a duvet. I eat in it too much though and need to wash it soon.

KilljoysDutch · 08/03/2022 21:43

I have a primark mens one and it's lovely, but I got a Comfy recently for a tenner and it's definitely better 2 layers instead of one and nicer looking but they're both amazing for keeping me warm. I live in them and have even been known to pop to the shop in them Grin

Ejk1990 · 08/03/2022 21:46

My bill is 45 pound a month for a 4 bed and that probably due to my oodie haha. I live in it!

PeakyBlender · 08/03/2022 21:48

I've got an Oodie and 2 knock offs from Amazon. I prefer the knockoffs, the Oodie is softer but the sleeves are too long and they're annoying.

DoucheCanoe · 08/03/2022 21:53

I bought 6 "Sienna" oodies as Christmas gifts (1 was for me Grin) and everyone absolutely loves them!

They were about £20 each from the online Home Store and my Mum has asked for another for Mother's Day.

They're so comfy and cosy, perfect for lounging around the house.

NeverChange · 08/03/2022 21:59

Try COZY25 for £25 off

nodogz · 08/03/2022 22:07

My oodie has damaged sleeves. All the fleece burnt and crusted (it was from my coffee pot) and now it has holes in it.

It didn't even touch the pot - I wouldn't tumble dry

Branster · 08/03/2022 22:14

I've been watching on the Style board for this this kind of information.
Proper jumpers / fleeces combos of thermals don't cut it anymore and am reluctant to rely on heating in my office and in the house in general (that would be phase 2 of convincing DH, I suspect DCs would gladly wear this).
Phew! Good thinking OP.
Great suggestions on here.
I am very, very tempted.
Do any of the originals or alternatives come with a full length long zip?
I'd definitely need to take it off for work video calls and I'd rather not mess up my hair in the process. I'd cut off the hood as not required and it would be another thing not good for my hair (yes, I know ...)

comfortablyfrumpy · 08/03/2022 22:18

Mine is from amazon. It's bloody marvellous. Huge and shapeless, wins no style prizes and I love it. I can't find a label on it so no idea of make.

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/03/2022 22:29

Get a proper oodie, it will pay for itself.
