I wear an Oodie pretty much all the time (cold house), which doubles as my dressing gown, but I keep a Mrs Hinch loungewear set (hooded top and lounge pants) to pop on if I need to look respectable and warm without getting dressed. Actually I've been known to have the loungewear on under the Oodie and just whip the Oodie off if I need to be on a videocall.

Despite being more expensive than other blanket hoodies, many Mumsnet users wouldn’t be without their faithful Oodie hooded blanket, claiming its quality and warmth more than justifies the extra money. That said, you can currently snap one up in their sale from as little as £39 – worth every penny!

Thanks to the soft flannel fleece and warm sherpa interior, our testers found the Oodie ultra cosy to wear. Natasha also found it easy to clean in the washing machine on a gentle cycle when needed. It's not safe for the tumble dryer, however, and as you’d expect, it can take a while to air dry due to its bulk.

While the Oodie gets top marks for softness and comfort, one of the drawbacks is that it can be a little too hefty to store away when not in use.

We love the wide range of designs, which includes everything from limited edition, licensed prints such as Harry Potter and Disney, to fun patterns like avocados, pandas and dachshunds.

With over 20,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, the affordable Sienna Hoodie Blanket is a great Oodie alternative.

Perfect for winter nights in, this oversized blanket hoodie comes in a generous one-size-fits-all design. Our tester Natasha found the Sienna super cosy to wear; with a warm sherpa fleece lining that made it extra comfortable and toasty.

She also loved the small details like the elastic cuffs and large double-opening front pocket for storage. Even better, it’s machine washable at 30 degrees, so it was quick and easy to clean once she could be convinced, somewhat reluctantly, to take it off.

Admittedly, with a few loose threads during testing, it doesn't match the quality you get with an Oodie, nor will you find bolder, patterned designs. That said, the Sienna offers excellent value, confidently earning our best overall title. It would make a great gift for winter too, especially bundled alongside a pair of the best women's slippers or a hot water bottle.

If you’re planning on hibernating at home bingeing your favourite boxset, this cosy blanket hoodie from trusted sleep brand Silentnight is worth adding to your wishlist.

Despite the budget-friendly price tag, this blanket hoodie features super soft fabric and sherpa fleece layers with a unique foil nestled in between, helping reflect and retain heat for longer durations – ideal if you’re trying to resist raising the thermostat.

It also features elasticated cuffs, wide front pocket and a generous hood, although while it's oversized, some reviewers found it shorter than expected. It's also only available in grey.

This super cosy Teddy Bear Blanket Hoodie from Dunelm ticks all the boxes – it's long, soft and affordable at just £16.

It's not quite as thick as the likes of the Oodie (which may be a bonus if you run hot!), and Mumsnetters have compared it to a women's dressing gown in hoodie form. That said, despite its lighter feel, we found the Teddy Blanket Hoodie was still a warm option and it helped our Mumsnet testers keep the heating off when working from home. It was also very easy to clean, and kept its original softness wash after wash.

Coming in just two colours, there's not as much design choice as other brands, but overall we loved the furry texture and cosy oversized fit. A great value alternative to Oodie if you want something a little lighter on the body and the wallet!

Whilst many oversized blanket hoodies are big enough to sneak the kids inside too (and trust us, they’re probably going to want to give that a go), you may prefer to treat them to their own.

this super plush, fleecy blanket hoodie from John Lewis makes a great alternative, so much so, it’ll be hard to get your little ones out.

Despite the oversized style, you can choose from several age ranges for the best fit. We love the elasticated cuffs and giant kangaroo pocket, helping keep your rug rats warm when they’re snuggling up with you on the sofa or reading a book in their bedroom.
