Happy September 10-a-day'ers! Can you believe we're in September already? I don't know about you lot but I've started to think about whispers Christmas... so really going to be plugging away this month to earn a bit for that!

For anyone new to the threads, I've posted the usual list of links below - start here, and ask as many questions as you need. We'll help where we can!

I can't find a project chat anywhere. The app seems very basic.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 16:39

@Buster27 Where can I find the project chat?

TheHumanFund · 09/09/2021 20:19

@Redcrayons I got the windmill too! I wonder what it will actually look like if it arrives 😂
I also got 2 cheap shite pieces of clothing, 2 skips and a hot chocolate making machine which I had to click through various links to get so hoping it will be approved.

JLbaby · 09/09/2021 20:19

@rhij86 @DeegeeDee have you both run out of files? Mine says none are left! I assume they’ll upload more tomorrow?

rhij86 · 09/09/2021 20:23

@JLbaby I did 150 earlier and was going to log back in shortly and do more but had a feeling they might run out. No idea if there will be more, I hope so!

OP posts:
DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 22:04

Yep, run out too
@JLbaby, will check in again in the morning to see if any more comes up.

Catatemyhomework · 09/09/2021 22:22

Anyone done yet another quiz for At*s? I have just got 100% but I spend my life doing quizzes for At*s and it rarely translates into actual work! 🤔

Buster27 · 09/09/2021 22:51

@curdsandwhey On the website there's a bar along the very top that has a 'chat' button. Each product has its own one (some are better than others, but generally I've found them helpful).

Buster27 · 09/09/2021 22:52

Each project that should have said. Once you're in the chat platform you'll be able to select the project chat you want from a drop down menu (if you're on more than one project).

GachaBread · 09/09/2021 22:56

@curdsandwhey I feel so sorry that your first experience in the mystery shopping world was a disaster. Okay you tried, you got spotted and bah! It happens, happened to me last week in fact, I just left the store and went home. Download some apps, bemyeye and sheppar are great to start with. You can look at the tasks, questions before you even accept a job so you get an idea of length and timings and mentally get a feel if you would be confident doing such things that are required. Also google a location beforehand, bigger stores are easier to stay undetected, smaller not so. Do one job, and another and then maybe another and watch your confidence spiral to the point where you might want to tackle harder but better paying mystery shopping jobs. Little tips you could wear headphones and pretend your on a face time call while snapping away, or say something like you are getting inspiration for Christmas if headphones are not your thing, snapping something to show a family member that is isolating/in another country etc. You can always quit too if it all becomes too much for you while at a location, you will not get penalised for giving up on something that you have accepted. Download Roamler only when you have a little experience behind you as much harder jobs on their platform.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 23:11

@GachaBread The thing is I didn't even consider it to be mystery shopping. It was more like just fact checking to help get Google searches up to date for shop existence and basically if they were still open. I just feel like the way Appen advertised the project seemed very misleading. The implication when I applied was that it would just be taking a few photos of some stuff just to confirm it was open, it sounded very casual, you know? And it's not until you request the job that you suddenly find out the level of detail that's required - like I said earlier, if someone came to my workplace and took that many photos, I'd feel very uncomfortable and I'd find it a bit creepy, so it's not surprising that someone else felt the same. I've never had any luck with Appen, this was literally the first project they've ever given me. I agree with you that other apps are much more upfront about exactly what's required.

GachaBread · 10/09/2021 01:37

I see @curdsandwhey bit naughty of Appen not to fully make you aware what the project would involve beforehand but I saw from your previous posts that this has kind of put you of doing mystery shopping stuff which you were thinking of trying and you also asked how people do this sort of work without getting caught so that made me reach out to you. If you do ever decide to get involved with it all you can always PM me if you need any info , it's nice to see your name floating about too, I remember you from the the very early days on this thread.

ruralwanderer · 10/09/2021 07:41

Checking in - a bit late this month as it's been a busy time but I'm hoping to do quite well on Crisp this month (everything crossed!)

kneesknocking · 10/09/2021 08:35

Anybody recently done the Yu**n exam ? I've been invited and given an exam start date for the beginning of this week but haven't received the exam start email they told me to look out for. I can access the guidelines but have no info on how to start the exam. Has anyone had similar happen?

bookgirl1982 · 10/09/2021 09:38

@kneesknocking you get an email on the date they specify with the links for the exam

kneesknocking · 10/09/2021 09:51

@bookgirl1982 thanks, that's what I expected to happen. Will have to send another ticket!

coldham · 10/09/2021 12:58

How do you sign up for Crisp?

TheresALight · 10/09/2021 14:19

Hi everyone. Having a not so good Sh this month, two from america which will take ages!
Now one in UK which doesnt have a shop site so I have had to message them on fbook - they have requested payment via paypal and said they will send me a handwritten invoice. Does that sound acceptable?

YonderTweek · 10/09/2021 14:49

Hello peeps. Does anyone want to talk tax?

I have finally managed to get my self assessment underway, and I'm stuck on Class 2 NI contributions. I didn't earn quite enough to hit the £6,5k threshold which would trigger Class 2 NI payments (I think), but the system says I can pay it voluntarily. Do you guys do this? I'm not sure if I should pay it or not. It's not a massive amount but I'm not really earning much at the moment anyway and need money, so I wouldn't like to part with my pennies. However, I have no other income and the NI payments could go towards potential future benefits/pension. I don't get any benefits and I'm not that fussed about pension, however, we are considering our options in terms of having another child at some stage, and I read that Class 2 NI contributions would make one entitled to Maternity Allowance. So I'm kind of thinking it might be a good idea to pay it now? I'm not likely to get a real job soon so this is all I'm doing at the moment. Grin

Would anyone have any advice please? Also happy to chat everyone's self assessment experiences because I'm finding it quite confusing. Haha.

swiftt · 10/09/2021 16:12

Just done the P*pple quiz. I had 2 corrections but no idea if I’ve passed or failed or what to do next?

amillionmenonmars · 10/09/2021 16:47

What is going on with Appen's invoicing this month. It's the 10th Sept and not one of my FB surveys is showing up yet - and I have done them all. Anyone else having this problem?

curdsandwhey · 10/09/2021 17:03

@YonderTweek In my opinion it's a good idea to avoid having a gap in National Insurance as you never really know what sort of situations might come up in the future.

Rgy3250999 · 10/09/2021 17:59

@YonderTweek I would pay the extra for the maternity allowance and see if you could do the odd extra survey or whatever to keep paying it long-term. Even if you’re not thinking about a pension right now, things can change and you might be glad of that extra money at a later date. Being a poor pensioner isn’t much fun.

Catatemyhomework · 10/09/2021 18:08

@YonderTweek, do you claim child benefit? If so the NI element is covered until your youngest child reaches 12. Even if you don't claim it due to the high income charge, you can still get the NI component paid.

Catatemyhomework · 10/09/2021 18:11

@YonderTweek, sorry meant to add, I don't earn enough to pay NI at the moment but I'm not going to pay the extra until my youngest reaches 12. I don't have long to go now but it seems pointless to pay it on top of already having it paid. Although, of course I'm guessing it wouldn't cover maternity allowance just pension contributions as far as I am aware.
