Happy September 10-a-day'ers! Can you believe we're in September already? I don't know about you lot but I've started to think about whispers Christmas... so really going to be plugging away this month to earn a bit for that!

For anyone new to the threads, I've posted the usual list of links below - start here, and ask as many questions as you need. We'll help where we can!

Micro tasks / Moderation work – generally the biggest earners.

anxiouswaiting · 09/09/2021 10:17

@Adelais

I tried project St*t but it kept freezing for me too and then my laptop crashed so I gave up. *@anxiouswaiting I can’t access the guidelines for ca**h either. Not sure whether to send a ticket or just wait.
I sent a ticket and they replied saying the roster is full and I am not needed. The 2 hours later I got another e-mail saying they had reviewed my application and I should proceed with the process - still can;t access the guidelines though.

Not having much luck at the moment, think I may try WWW although I vaguely remember applying to them before and failing the test. I failed Rev too.

JLbaby · 09/09/2021 10:24

Is anyone doing Boi** on Appen? Got a question which the guidelines don’t seem to answer or are a bit vague on it anyway!

Can I PM you?

Yep, feel free to PM me but not sure I can help a it's foxed me at points. And just realised the time!
JLbaby · 09/09/2021 11:46

I’ve messaged you, thank you! What do you mean the time, are we supposed to do it at certain times!?

rhij86 · 09/09/2021 11:46

@DeegeeDee
@JLbaby

How are you finding Boi*e? I've been accepted and had my logins yesterday, hoping to make a start this evening.

JLbaby · 09/09/2021 11:48

Seems ok, I just had a few questions about the formatting of things and what you do once you get to 250!

DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 12:03

Sent you a much longer one back @JLbaby! There is an hour for each query. Top left is a countdown clock unless you park then come back to the query. Don't know how long they're parked for though.
@rhij86 would agree with JL, Straightforward queries and instructions to go into the incognito site is easy to follow. I have the guidelines in a second tab for those less straightforward.

rhij86 · 09/09/2021 12:10

@DeegeeDee @JLbaby thanks both. How long would you say it takes to do the 250/day?

OP posts:
JLbaby · 09/09/2021 12:16

I’d say you could get 250 done in an hour, once you know what you are doing. It’s my first one so it took me a while to get used to it and work out the guidelines etc so my first lot took longer but as you go through I’m sure you could speed up.

DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 12:18

You've both mentioned it. Where does it say 250?

rhij86 · 09/09/2021 12:29

@DeegeeDee it was either in the qualification email or guidelines, it mentions the expectation that you'll do 250 per day

OP posts:
DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 12:54

Ah, that is ringing a faint bell but can't see it anywhere now of course. Ok, will stick to 250.

rhij86 · 09/09/2021 13:05

@DeegeeDee I'm not sure it was a maximum amount, it made it sound more like that was the minimum they expected

OP posts:
rhij86 · 09/09/2021 13:07

@DeegeeDee found it in the task details:

Task Details
You will be listening to very short audios (3-6 seconds), make transcription edits whenever necessary them and categorize them based on the 4 provided categories in the Crowd Compute tool.

This is an urgent project, we expect each user to complete at least 250 transcription task per day.

Hi, I haven't been on these threads for months now. I applied for Appen in April 2020, it took them a year to approve me and I've only just been accepted onto my first paid job, a whole 1.5 years later, and now I feel uncomfortable about the work.

So, is anyone doing Appen Sperproj*t, and if so can anyone help me with it please? I started out earlier today but I had to quit and go home as it was clear that people weren't happy and I felt like I was getting in the way, so I quit the task. Please help!

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 13:17

I just don't understand Appen at all. It all seems so confusing and mysterious, and although I've technically been approved for two other projects, the tasks lists in the app are blank and anyway they seem like a similar thing to Sperprojt. At first I couldn't understand why all the tasks in Sperproj**t were still available as it's assumed they'd all be snapped up by other people in no time, but now that I've attempted it, I can totally see why people wouldn't want to do it.

Thanks, sets my mind at rest now.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 13:38

And it's financially disappointing for me as I was hoping to join some other apps like BeMyEye and Roamler, but realistically now I can see that I'd just end up annoying people and being told to go away.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 13:54

Seriously, how do people manage to use these mystery shopping apps without getting caught? What are you supposed to do if a shopkeeper asks you what the hell you're doing, or orders you not to take photos? I'm so upset about what happened this morning, just when I thought I'd finally get a few more bits of money coming in.

DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 14:33

Curds, Gauchabread (so?) was the queen of those types of projects and was really helpful to ask questions of. Pre pandemic it wouldnt be a problem as more crowded normally and you could say you're taking photos to show your partner an item etc but it's a bit more obvious now. I would say brazen it out (w/o knowing much about the project you're doing) and say you're doing a dissertation or project etc. Don't lose heart.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 14:48

Okay but for the Appen Sperproj*t I had to take photos of the outside of shops to show if they were open or not. Totally understandable that this project exists as there's been so many changes in businesses since the pandemic. Which wouldn't be a problem if they just wanted one or two photos, but they actually wanted about ten, with lots of close-ups and stuff, and info about if food places were doing deliveries or not. On my very first go, a woman came out of the shop and asked me what the hell I thought I was doing. So I quit the task, moved along to the next shop on the list and saw the setup and realised there was basically no way I could do it without annoying people. So I gave up and went home. And it looks like you have to do all the jobs in the whole polygon or the overall task is incomplete, so you can't just choose one or two shops. And now I totally understand why the jobs are still there and why they weren't snapped up by other people ages ago. The chances are that other people tried the same thing and quit. The amount of photography required was so intrusive, if someone came to my workplace and started taking lots of photos then I'd be annoyed too.

DeegeeDee · 09/09/2021 15:03

It does sound a lot Curds, sorry for what seems like a tricky project, think I remember it now and yes, did scroll by as it asked for a lot. Onwards to the next project when it comes though.

curdsandwhey · 09/09/2021 15:11

But it wasn't made obvious at the time of applying. It just said something vague like you'll be visiting different places and saying what's there.

Buster27 · 09/09/2021 16:26

@curdsandwhey sorry to hear about your bad experience Sad I haven't tried any of the mystery shopping so can't help there, but have you tried the project chat? There's often a few helpful people on there. Although it sounds like they're asking for a lot for this project so it might just be one of those projects that aren't worth it unfortunately.
