rhij86 · 01/06/2021 11:51

Morning all,

Thought I'd start a new thread for June as I couldn't see one that had been done yet. Ignore if I've cross posted!

I'll post the links for all the sites shortly, but for now here's a link to the last thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/4252763-2nd-Part-of-Mays-Earn-10-a-day-thread

All welcome, new and old alike - let's start the summer off with a bang and get earning those pennies! Hope everyone has a good month.

@Heyha I still have another transcription test and a proofreading test to do, so I'll do those tomorrow as I found failing that audio test twice quite stressful! May I ask you if they offer a reasonable rate of pay or is it always on the lower end of what they put on their website?
@3dodsnorth yes, I wrote numbers in digits rather than words. I only got 40% the first time too - don't they know who I am! Grin Seriously, though, it's quite tricky when you've never done it before. They should really give more guidelines on things like numbers, those kind of rules aren't necessarily a matter of standard grammar but of a specific in-house style so it would be fairer i they made those clear.

Heyha · 23/06/2021 19:23

I'm still on the basic rate jobs which are at the lower end, but the quicker turnaround ones or more complex ones pay well and they sometimes open them up to every level of staff, I did one the other day that paid more than double the basic rate. Plus you get quicker, my hourly rate when I started was dire but it's much better now I've got better at picking files and so on.
Honestly don't overthink the style stuff at this stage other than absolutely sticking with what they give you as a guide, I think if you write as you would formally using normal conventions they explain the slight style tweaks later, there aren't many things I can think of that I have to check the full guide for.

Redcrayons · 24/06/2021 09:33

I got accepted on Rev. Having trouble with the ID verification though. Can’t take a photo on my laptop and the QR code won’t work on my phone. Anyone have this?

3dogsnorth · 24/06/2021 10:16

Well done @Redcrayons I'm waiting to hear if they want me 🤞

3dogsnorth · 24/06/2021 10:46

Any lovely people on uTest? I've been with them a while but it's been quiet this week, is it just me? I remember an email last week and I meant to flag it to digest but stupidly can't find it now.

Novelusername · 24/06/2021 11:33

HI @3dogsnorth I've just accepted the passport app one on Utest this morning, Idemia.

lilmishap · 24/06/2021 12:24

I just tried to do a transcription test for Appen china. Wow is all I will say

AnotherOne4 · 24/06/2021 15:21

@lilmishap you were brave lol

flloyd · 24/06/2021 16:32

@Novelusername

Oh dear, *@Heyha* I'm not doing very well with the Way With Words tests. I got 95% and 100% on the first two, but now I'm having to do the audio transcription and I only got 40% then 45% and I've got one chance left. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, any advice? I find their advice about commas a bit vague as it says to use them sparingly - but how sparingly, exactly? It would help if they showed us an example audio script and recording first so we had some idea what is too much or too little.
I am having the same thing; just got 45% on the audio trans test, having thought I had done well!! Too scared right now to have another go as I need to think carefully about their guidelines/style etc. Not a thing from Appen and not a penny from Prolific today either. Literally every study I leap on is already full. I have signed up for Intellizoom too and did my Rev tests early in the week but haven't heard from Rev and no studies available on Intellizoom. I have just about made the £10 a day till today so I really hope tomorrow is a bit better. Feeling a bit despondent in all honesty but I guess you just have to keep trying...
flloyd · 24/06/2021 16:47

@Heyha - I need money for hay, vets bills etc too! I have plans and would love to be able to get some better training and compete so that is why I am developing (a so far unsuccessful) side-hustle lol! :)

Aimee1987 · 24/06/2021 19:14

Hi all a bit of a newbie to this but had my hours cut and struggling to stay out of overdraft so here to pick up some tips.
Last month someone mentioned match betting so I had a bash at that and made £400 last month. I used odds monkey if any one is interested, the do a free trail so you can get the concept and see if your interested.

I havent read the whole thread but you guys talked about rev alot at the start. What is that?

Frenchdoors1 · 24/06/2021 19:36

Hello @Aimee1987 Well done with match betting.

Rev is transcriptions etc..just Google 'Rev'

If you go to the 1st page of this thread there are a few there for you to have a look at and see what you fancy having a bash at.

StormcloakNord · 24/06/2021 20:15

So I signed up to Appen..
Got accepted for 2 projects but they were absolutely rubbish!

Not sure if I'm just doing something wrong but they were both speaking ones where you had to send recordings of various phrases in but they didn't tell you what to say so I had to just make it up.

Felt a bit daft and still none the wiser how I get paid for it..

Aimee1987 · 24/06/2021 20:48

@frenchdoors1 thank you. I'll have a look at that tomorrow

Frenchdoors1 · 24/06/2021 20:54

Hi @StormcloakNord Well done on getting started but did it not say anywhere what you should have recorded?! ( Sorry for the obvious question)Seems a bit strange that, hmmm.

It will be automatically invoiced so you won't have to do anything.

StormcloakNord · 24/06/2021 21:01

@Frenchdoors1 Hello!! It gave me a 'prompt' and asked me to ask a 'conversational bot' something regarding either calling a friend or calling a group of people or setting a timer etc.

Just felt like I was saying the same things over and over again. Hopefully it was worth it and something comes through lol...

Frenchdoors1 · 24/06/2021 21:08

@StormcloakNord Oh yes, I know which one you mean. They are repeated quite a lot on that one.
If it was the one with the various backgrounds then they are repeated according to that.

Novelusername · 24/06/2021 22:35

@flloyd yes, it knocked my confidence a bit, I thought 'great, I can't even pass a test for a low paying job'. Although I did pass it in the end, I still have the offline assessment to do and couldn't face it today - it's taking me back to doing exams and making me feel really anxious! I'll get over it. My only advice for the online test is to re-read all the instructions, take your time and use common sense.

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 25/06/2021 01:14

I'm on my last shot with the audio test on WWW as well. I got 55% then 60%. I honestly have no idea what I am doing wrong!

arithanaggerton · 25/06/2021 03:37

Could somebody email the full name of this SD project please?

It sounds brilliant but I always get overwhelmed seeing the amounts of projects on Appen

arithanaggerton · 25/06/2021 03:37

*private message not email

MrsWombat · 25/06/2021 06:36

@arithanaggerton It starts with Suth.... It's a Malta project and they are always my favourite.

Novelusername · 25/06/2021 08:12

I've had a look for SD on the list of projects and it's not there. I think they must not be accepting new applications.

flloyd · 25/06/2021 09:48

So have tried a couple of the qualifying tests for Appen projects; no idea how I will have performed on those but I think the answer is to just keep doing stuff, keep failing, getting rejected and eventually something will work!! Can't believe I have survived employment for so long as it seems clear that I have very few actual employable skills...It is a rude awakening to me; I have postgrad quals both academic and professional yet clearly can't pass muster on basic stuff...Ho hum. I will get back to the WWW tests when I feel brave enough and now have 19 (yes 19) appen applications on the go. We need stuff for our small holding so it is important to keep going till I get a bit of additional pay. Keep going everyone new...

Frenchdoors1 · 25/06/2021 09:56

@flloyd I and others always have quite a few App applications but they usually just sit there and nothing comes of them.

So frustrating when I know I could definitely do them but...

Anyway keep at it even if there's gaps without anything something will come along.
