Hi, I just found this group today. Now that I occasionally get some free time in the evening I was hoping to earn some money.
I have signed up to Appen and will do some more in a bit.
I have a few questions if anyone can help...
- What is your favorite money maker and why?
- What happens with paying tax? Do you do a self assessment or do you not need to pay tax?
- How many hours do you work a week on average and how much do you earn?
Sorry, may be a bit personal but I really want to make a go of this and this group seems really lovely.
Hello and welcome!
Good luck with Appen! I have been working for them since around August last year and I've really enjoyed it (once I got the hang of it). It's a bit hit and miss as you never know when/if you end up selected to projects or how long projects last for, but if you get one or two bigger, longer term projects it's great. The pay is usually decent too, which is my main motivator. When I have a good Ap project on I tend to drop all the little surveys and such and focus on getting the hours in.
I haven't done a self assessment quite yet but I have registered for one, so will need to do one for the previous financial year. I think if you make more than £1000 you have to register as self employed and do a self assessment. I'll report back when I've done mine.
If I have a project on I do a minimum of 20 hours a week, but I have done more if required. Obviously there are times when I have absolutely nothing going on so I'm mostly sitting here stressing about it, but it varies massively.
I hope that helps a bit! I feel like I'm still a bit of a newbie but just realised I have started doing this stuff a year ago now! These threads have been so useful and everyone here is so helpful and lovely, so if you have any questions just fire away!
