I've only just stumbled upon this thread so help to you all. It's inspiring to read what some of you are earning. I decided to sign up to Prolific, as after spending time answering many questions, verifying my contact details and posting my driving licence I was given the message "we're sorry but we can't give you access to Prolific" with no explanation. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I suppose my main concern is that I've been scammed or have risked my ID security having just provided them a lot of information about myself, including my ID details. I'm just a bit confused due to the lack of explanation. Maybe I'm not cut out for all of this! Has anyone had a similar experience?

PandemicPalava · 16/04/2021 00:51

@TheRogueApostrophe I don't know why that would happen but I am 100% sure they are not a scam and your data is safe whatever the reason. They are very professional generally.

MrsWombat · 16/04/2021 07:51

@YonderTweek That's the one. It will be the blind leading the blind. Grin

Thanks for the reassurance. 👍 Maybe I just look too different from my driver's licence photo 🤣

Did anyone else get bombarded with emails asking for a Q1 review survey to be completed on Ap**n for each project you're working?

singsingbluesilver · 16/04/2021 10:51

Yes I have had the review surveys. I did one and it took ages. If I don't get paid then I m not doing them. I ignored the rest.

Minkus · 16/04/2021 11:24

Hello all. I've been following all this with interest and have a quick question.

How do you deal with the tax side of freelancing? I have a couple of part-time jobs which are PAYE, do you also need to do a tax return that declares all the other income once your earnings go over the threshold for tax? I don't want to fall foul of the rules.

I am considering applying to a transcription service provider and perhaps seeing if I can get my feet in the door at App* so I am wondering how this works.

Also, is there a sticky post or similar with bits and bobs in? I don't want to be asking you all really repetitive newbie questions which will be so bloody annoying I'm sure.

Any advice gratefully received.

Februarycat · 16/04/2021 11:54

@TheRogueApostrophe Prolific are genuine as been a member for a few years now and they always pay up. Just wondered if you signed up as a participant and not a researcher, as my friend signed up as a researcher in error. I don't remember having to send any ID to them but that could have changed now as been with them ages.

Oh good. Grin Maybe we'll just sense check how others have categorised things? I have no idea. Minus the pink and blue issue I thought the job might actually be quite fun. Fingers crossed it will actually happen!

whysotriggered · 16/04/2021 13:10

@Minkus once you earn over £1000 with freelancing you need to fill out a tax return

ArwenTheGreat · 16/04/2021 13:27

Thanks @whysotriggered, if only!

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 16/04/2021 15:31

Hi everyone, just a quick question. It was my first month on A**r. I have two items to return and was going to do it today - but then thought I would check with you on here whether they ever come back and ask for further photos etc?

whysotriggered · 16/04/2021 16:15

@Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly I have never been asked for extra photos or anything but I also don't return items! This last month was my 5th time.

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 16/04/2021 18:31

@whysotriggered, thanks! I have taken extra pics just in case but am definintely returning as it's a man's watch and a top that would only fit a flea. A very slim flea.

I had a really good reply from them today actually. They've re-reviewed my information and have now verified me. They were very reassuring about data storage too.

PandemicPalava · 16/04/2021 23:11

@TheRogueApostrophe oh that's great news. I love Prolific. It's a bit hit and miss but I've wasn't about £100 since mid Feb

PandemicPalava · 16/04/2021 23:11

*earnt

TheRogueApostrophe · 17/04/2021 08:30

Is it just a case of checking in regularly to see if there are any studies? I noticed on posted yesterday which said "5 spaces" but when I tried to get on it was full. How do you make sure you're one of the first to see them?

PandemicPalava · 17/04/2021 09:13

@TheRogueApostrophe I have it open on the laptop all the time and have installed the Prolific assistant which tells you when there is a study (it's an extension you can search for online). It's a bit delayed though. If you're working on the computer anyway just have it permanently open on a tab and look for the (1) to appear next to the word prolific. The 'full' thing happens to me a lot, the spaces get taken up quicker than the system can update

Februarycat · 17/04/2021 10:04

@TheRogueApostrophe Glad you got verified and can now do the surveys. The spaces do go quickly for the surveys and it's just a matter of keep checking at various times of the day.

TheRogueApostrophe · 17/04/2021 10:12

I just completed my first. I earned 35p 🤣

singsingbluesilver · 17/04/2021 10:12

You will never get rich on Prolific. I have it open all day, and I consider it a good day if I make £5. But, most of the surveys re really interesting to do, and they pay fairly for the time they take. They often pay out on the same day too.

Redcrayons · 17/04/2021 12:18

@TheRogueApostrophe you need to be online to grab the surveys as soon as they are posted.

I’ve averaged about £10 per month, for the last few months, but I’m not in front of my laptop all day.

It’s one of the best survey sites I’ve been on. You never get screened out, the rate is Ok and they pay straight away when you cash out.

3dogsnorth · 17/04/2021 17:48

I've been accepted to A**r but, don't know if I'm being silly, how do you actually make money on it ? I don't quite understand the concept? Can anyone experienced explain it in very simple terms before I go barging in making mistakes! Thanks
