The guidelines are really tough. Once I got half way it seemed quicker

Catatemyhomework · 10/04/2021 12:00

Apparently the pass mark is 90% Hmm. I honestly can't actually see this happening for me but I guess I will never know if I don't try!

seizethecuttlefish · 10/04/2021 13:20

@Catatemyhomework it was the first ever test I did when I started 2 years ago. I didn't take it seriously and tried to wing it. Wish I'd put the effort in now. First attempt was 85%, second was lower!

Catatemyhomework · 10/04/2021 13:42

@seizethecuttlefish, 85% is brilliant if you just tried to wing it. I'm getting bogged down with all the detail around distance and prominence. Feel I will be winging it too even after reading the guidelines Hmm

PandemicPalava · 10/04/2021 16:57

Argh I've just done it and got booted out at question 20 (the longer you stay in the exam the better you are doing... is Theo right?) minimum 9 questions up to a maximum 40. Still hopeful. So much prep

StanleyR38 · 10/04/2021 17:28

@PandemicPalava I daren't start it! I've been doing the sample questions but noticed today i have only one batch to practise on - the other day there were 3.

Only have another 3 days to do the exam so better get my skates on!

Catatemyhomework · 10/04/2021 18:33

@PandemicPalava, I thought part 1 of the exam was 20 questions. It's in 3 parts I think. Oh well, I can't remember anything I've read either!

PandemicPalava · 10/04/2021 20:44

Oh! I wonder where the rest of it is then?! Do we get sent the next bit if we pass the first? I also only has one sample batch

Catatemyhomework · 10/04/2021 20:52

@PandemicPalava, I think part 2 is 50 questions according to some stuff I've read online. I think you get part 2 after part 1 although not sure if it's immediate or later on. Only going by stuff I've seen online though.

PandemicPalava · 10/04/2021 20:56

I've just looked in the exam support page and is one part, between 9 and 40 questions dependent upon how you do, it's marked as you go along. The fact that I only got to 20 doesn't bode well!

StanleyR38 · 10/04/2021 21:35

Did you watch the webinar? Its just anything from 9 to 40 questions depending on performance as far as i was aware. No parts, but within each question there are 3 actions required i think.

Catatemyhomework · 10/04/2021 22:41

@StanleyR38, ok right. I've not watched the webinar yet. Still ploughing through guidelines. Half way now! It must have changed as this is what I read on some forums from people who also did it. Good luck to you!

PandemicPalava · 10/04/2021 22:43

It was odd as each question had a few results but they only wanted you to rate one of them, leaving the others there as a comparison. Yes 9 to 40 questions. Lets hope they stopped me because I had already passed with flying colours!

lannister · 11/04/2021 07:46

Does anyone know how to change your paypal email addres on appen?

Catatemyhomework · 11/04/2021 10:36

I'm seriously contemplating not taking the LB exam after all. Half way through guide lines and it's not making much sense. Looked at some same questions and they're difficult. I just wonderif, even by some fluke I passed it, I'd then have to work on it and would be second guessing every submission. I'm just not sure it's for me after all. Has anyone else felt like this and carried on and it's been ok in the end?

PandemicPalava · 11/04/2021 12:34

I feel the same now I've taken it, too much work to get booted out half way through, feels like a waste of time. I'll let you know if by some miracle I pass.

Catatemyhomework · 11/04/2021 12:53

@PandemicPalava, that's a shame. I hope you have passed. I've been doing some sample questions today and I can't even get half of them right with the guidelines! Hmm. There's a part of me that thinks I should persevere as technically I have nothing to lose, i.e. will be no worse off if I fail. I do feel resentful though about the hours I am putting in and the penny not dropping makes me wonder if it's just something that will click for me. I could just be being defeatest, but I do kind of feel like you need a degree in it and that can't be right! Hmm

PandemicPalava · 11/04/2021 13:00

I started to get the sample questions about half way through, got the first 10 mostly wrong. The exam is a bit different in that you have both map layers and the other search results to compare to the one you're rating. I still have no idea what I did wrong on the exam and I don't think I'll get feedback so I'm a bit sad about it now after all those hours

PandemicPalava · 11/04/2021 13:01

I also feel like you need a degree in it and small nuances are so easy to miss

Catatemyhomework · 11/04/2021 13:12

It's disappointing when you put in so much time and effort and get nowhere with no feedback. I will be in the same boat if I do ahead. I can't imagine passing. It's definitely not for the feint hearted! I reckon also that it would be infinitely easier doing your own locality as opposed to US. The name and address nuances are a nightmare!

Gatekeeper · 11/04/2021 18:18

I got an invitation for the map thing but half pleased I didn't go for it!! Can you do more than one project on LB?

Catatemyhomework · 11/04/2021 18:42

@Gatekeeper, I have a feeling you can't do more than one project on LB. I was hoping to get invited for the SME project.

PandemicPalava · 11/04/2021 19:52

@Catatemyhomework yes! Also we would know more about the relevance and prominence, how likely it is that someone would look to go somewhere, how popular certain brands are, distances etc

PandemicPalava · 11/04/2021 19:53

@Gatekeeper I don't know, they have two
More on there that I have applied for so will see.

moooshroom · 12/04/2021 03:35

I have just started working for LB after reading the guidelines and examples. It took me ages to do the exam across a few sittings, as I looked everything up to ensure I didn't get it wrong!!! Good Luck to those currently studying for it.
