seizethecuttlefish · 01/03/2021 12:39

Welcome to the March thread everyone.

The idea of the thread is to earn a bit of extra cash. There are a few ways to do this. I'm sure some of our regulars can add to this. But here's some ideas.

www.connect.appen.com this is a site where you can sign up for micro projects and some longer term projects.
www. crispthinking.com social media moderation
www.lionbridge.com projects
www.utest.com user testing
www.prolific.co surveys
www.intellizom.com short one off tasks
www.clickworker.com short one off tasks

I'm sure I've forgotten loads. If you want to look over previous months, there are loads of pervious threads in this section.

@seizethecuttlefish you mentioned doing potato with a touch screen laptop. Do you reckon I can do it on a samsung tablet (using chrome)?

YonderTweek · 23/03/2021 09:03

@rhij86

Anyone done the H*wae test on Appen? how many questions are there?
Sorry, don't know about the questions but I would like to do this project. I applied as soon as I saw it come up but I've not been invited for the test (yet). Fingers crossed...

In fact I have applied for a million different projects and they have just been "pending" for months. Sigh.

rhij86 · 23/03/2021 09:14

@YonderTweek I've had a minimum of 10 projects pending at all times since Sept 2019 🙈😅 something will stick.

Hopefully you'll get the test link soon!

singsingbluesilver · 23/03/2021 10:02

I am so grateful for this thread - I would never have thought of this as a way to make money. I was a bit slow off the mark in January, but doing a quick add up now I am up to about £300 in total. That is amazing given that I mainly make the money on Qmee, Prolific (when I ca get onto the studies, and I really enjoy them), and Appen. I wish Appen would come through with some more projects for me - I am only doing the FB ones at the moment.

£300 might not be much to some people, but it is the slow build of of cash that makes a difference. Thanks for all of the advice on here.

Tattiespuds · 23/03/2021 10:19

Hey all, late to the chat this month. I'm losing motivation with potato this month normally earn around 200-300 on there but this month so far i haven't even done £20.00. everytime I log in it's slow and quiet or i'm bored senseless.

Been on appen almost a year and still getting no where fast. just seem to applying for everything then getting nothing. I got on to the amur a few months ago i do the survey etc every month but still don't get picked to actually do it. don't know where i'm going wrong.

Azerothi · 23/03/2021 10:20

I've just done the Ha$ae test and it was OK but as with all projects, it's difficult to predict.

TheLolaMontez · 23/03/2021 10:35

I raised a ticket about the N!L3 issues, they said to use the mobile tool - shame that doesn't work either Grin the chat is full of the same sentiments, looks like everyone is having the same problem.

Zancah · 23/03/2021 10:49

@makinganavalon

Hi all, sorry if this has been mentioned before but for the last few days I've only seen one survey on prolific- a screen capture? Usually get a few different ones come up but it's only this one from the same company all the time.... Has anyone else had the same problem?

I usually get only about 1-2 (very low paid) tasks on there a day at the moment. But I'm not looking that often and tasks disappear when they're full - and they can fill up fast!
I'm aiming to have my laptop open for a lot more of the day now the kids are all back to school.

Zancah · 23/03/2021 10:52

@AnotherOne4 I retook my intellizoom practice on Saturday and have just been notified now that I passed it! Wine
I was beginning to wonder what was taking them so long to mark it ... but it says I should get more well paid tasks now. Not had anything yet - but I'm sat here, patiently waiting Grin

MarigoldMoonStone · 23/03/2021 10:58
  • got an email about K**x twice now but still not on projects list to apply.
  • applied for Ha*a after email invite but no test yet.
  • N**e not working on desktop for me and had email to do on mobile but doesn't come up in my search results, hoping it might soon :( :(
  • Po**k is my favourite at the moment but waiting for more batches to load
  • thinking I might get kicked off F*rt*r soon because I've not been doing much on there as I prefer the other transcribing one (think it doesn't help you don't see how much you're earning on this one till the end of the month)
  • doing bare minimum on C*p, really don't enjoy it but want to keep it as a safety net
  • oh got one to do on the appen app - Chy*ne, must remember to do that at nap time.
  • still waiting for 2 deliveries for A**r, one still being tracked in China 3 days ago and going to chase the other one now as told me to be patient on the 17th, no tracking provided! hope it doesn't ruin my chances for next round. Also returned a £100 coat from this round so am happy with that. Everything else cheap(ish) and from China so not worth trying to return.
  • also got on another one of task but waiting for it to start - Mhon*g

New starters on Appen, keep applying and don't give up hope. it can be really slow but then really busy. So worth sticking with it though

rhij86 · 23/03/2021 11:03

C**p started off really well for me at the start of the month - I was managing to time it really well with surges and shifts etc and earning around £30 a day for very little effort. The last week or so though, the only times I've had free to do it there's hardly any content so I'm earning about a quid a day!

I was contacted at the start of the month saying I'd been added to a group of people who would have access to more shifts, but since then have only seen one lot of pre-loaded shifts available (the week after they said I'd been added, on one day). Is this the case for the others who were added or have I been knocked off again?

I also did Chy*ne for Appen at the beginning of the month, but still not on my invoice yet. Anyone else?

rhij86 · 23/03/2021 11:03

@MarigoldMoonStone same here regarding K**x - bloody annoying

kneesknocking · 23/03/2021 11:14

@MarigoldMoonStone Complete newbie to this, thought I was of reasonable intelligence but have signed up to Appen and feel out of my depth!
Think I need to start with some simple projects to gain a bit of confidence and get to understand how it all works. So I'm able to access "all projects" and "suggested projects" but no idea from the descriptions whether my fairly basic grasp of the internet and social media will be enough to understand what I'm needed to do. Any advice for an absolute beginner, with low confidence, would be very welcome Smile

rhij86 · 23/03/2021 11:21

@kneesknocking there are three survey projects - all beginning with an N. If you've got a facebook account I'd recommend starting with these, you can complete the surveys at various times (some once a week, some every other day for example) and they're really simple. I'm getting approx £15 a week from them which is not loads but better than nothing?!

YonderTweek · 23/03/2021 11:45

@rhij86 Ahh I didn't see you had already done it. Hope it went well! Yeah, some projects do like to keep us waiting. But I guess as long as they're under my active processes at least I haven't been rejected... Yet. Grin

MarigoldMoonStone · 23/03/2021 11:47

@kneesknocking I would honestly just apply for anything that sound vaguely like something you could do, because a lot of things you apply for but don’t get on. Also if you do something and if you don’t like it/can’t do it, anyone correct me if I’m wrong but, being kicked off a project or stopping doing a project doesn’t have any affect on future project applications - example I was kicked off an English version of a transcribing project for low accuracy but was then immediately accepted onto the Australian version. Don’t do be scared, just give them a try. Most of them have really decent guidelines and/or chat forums where you can ask other participants about how to do something. Even if some say minimum 20 hours a week required and you can’t commit to that, still do it because chances are they won’t have that much work for you to do, or don’t mind if you don’t do that much.
This is just based on my past experiences, other people might say different. I’ve had warnings about not doing enough etc but they still give you another chance.
I would also that they are all pretty straight forward..the transcribing ones are the trickiest I’ve come across so far but I’m still scrapping by

rhij86 · 23/03/2021 13:02

@YonderTweek it seemed ok but who knows shrugs - waiting to hear whether I did enough to pass or not

kneesknocking · 23/03/2021 13:18

@rhij86 @MarigoldMoonStone Thank you so much for the encouragement and information. I do have a Facebook account but never post anything on it, just use it for looking at people who do same hobbies and have similar pets as me Think Ive also got Instagram but no idea how that works
Was worried that if I was rubbish at a task then I wouldn't be allowed to try any other projects, but @MarigoldMoonStone you have put this worry to rest.
OK I've got nothing to lose so will login and start signing up for projects. Here goes🤞🏻

Starofmine1 · 23/03/2021 13:23

@Zancah and @AnotherOne4 I have a second chance at doing the Intellizoom test. Do you have any tips or advice on doing it a second time? Is it the same test as the first time? Maybe i just need to concentrate more as the first time I rushed it before picking my daughter up from school. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thank you

Zancah · 23/03/2021 13:57

Mine was the exact same test as the first, same questions and everything.
One about picking a mug to buy off a coffee website, finding the price of a Starbucks blend without using the search function. I can't remember the other bits.
It threw me a bit the first time because it was one of the first tasks I'd been asked to do (only done surveys up to that point) and I had no idea what to expect but the second time it just clicked a bit better. Take your time, make sure your phone is muted etc and really narrate everything you are clicking on and what you think of it, even if you're saying "wow this is frustrating" or whatever.

Good luck 🤞🏼 Wine

seizethecuttlefish · 23/03/2021 16:24

@rhij86 I think so. It's really speeded me up.

OP posts:
AnotherOne4 · 23/03/2021 17:56

@Zancah - well done of passing!
I've not had a peep out of them since I passed.

@Starofmine1 - my test was the same as the first one. Is there anything you feel you didn't complete well/or got wrong? Just make sure you keep talking, even if you keep repeating yourself. I think I kept saying 'oh ok, so over here is this' and stupid things like that Grin

Zancah · 23/03/2021 18:39

Thanks @AnotherOne4

I've just had one from intellizoom, but I generally only seem to get one a day. Today they wanted to know my opinion on the virgin media mobile shop page.

You do feel a bit of a berk sat there narrating out loud! The kids kept coming to the (glass) door to see who I was talking to and giving me suspicious side eye. I end up using a lot of filling in language like saying everything looks "user friendly" with lots of wows, okayyyy, ums… and errrs…Grin
It's surprising hard to think out loud without it coming out in gibberish.
I had a thought that it might actually end up helping me in the real world with keeping conversation flowing and not having too many awkward silences 😂

Anyway, probably not far off a tenner today- between all the platforms. Happy with that.

Zancah · 23/03/2021 18:48

Talking of intellizoom … has anyone been on it long enough to get paid? How is it done?
There's no running total so I've been saving my emails which state the fee and confirm that you've submitted, so I at least have a copy of what I'm owed ... in theory.
There's no option to view your history at all on the website which is so frustrating.

AnotherOne4 · 23/03/2021 19:35

@Zancah - I got paid from Intellizoom earlier today. All I get is the email from Paypal to say Intellizoom have paid me, and it states the study ID.
I think it's all pretty random when you get paid.
