@leafygarden42, yes, but for 50 years...

leafygarden42 · 10/03/2021 12:43

oh dear - that is quite a while

VanGoghsDog · 10/03/2021 13:00

You have exactly the same chance every month. The length of time just means more chances, not a higher chance.

userxx · 10/03/2021 14:16

@Ethereall Well done!!! Hope your luck continues.

Pleasebe2022 · 12/03/2021 07:58

I have max holdings in my account. I'm looking for somewhere to save and ISAs are rubbish and I need to be able to get the money out at times. I have 2 young children. Can I open an account in their names and use it to save regularly and take money out when i need?

It is winning and it's not interest, that's how come it's tax free.

I have £25k in bonds, £80k in stocks and funds and £250k in pension in various funds, as well as about £40k in cash accounts. It's called diversification. Does that meet with your unbaffled approval @Lockandtees?

OUB1974 · 12/03/2021 09:24

I absolutely wouldn't be prepared to take a risk with our house money though, so as far as I can see, premium bonds are a really good choice right now. Hopefully it's only for another few months and we've already got £75! Hoping for a bit more next month as we've put in the max.

Pleasebe2022 · 12/03/2021 09:54

The first reply to my question wasnt helpful! I need the money out again in a few months.

Does anyone know about the kids premium bonds and how much access I will have?

I may be wrong but not sure you can take out of kids in a few months

Maybe contact them to ask

I don't know about kids and premium bonds. Some savings accounts for children have better interest than adult ones though - my dc get 1.44% which is not good but a lot better than mine!

Comps83 · 12/03/2021 10:15

@Pleasebe2022 you have access until they are 16. You can take it out because what if you wanted to put it in a better interest rate account etc?

@Lockandtees

It’s interest paid by the government on the bond. If you’re lucky your name is pulled out of a hat and you get a share of that interest *@VanGoghsDog*.

And thanks for letting us all know how much money you have. I’m really pleased for you. But all you’ve done is prove that your finances are diversified. I don’t get that impression from many of the other people posting on this thread.

Who pissed on your chips? So some of us have decided to get premium bonds. Why does that bother you?
BarbaraofSeville · 12/03/2021 14:31

Most of mine is the money that I could use to overpay my mortgage, but I've decided to gamble on PBs instead, because the interest on the mortgage is about £15 a month. I'm currently well ahead compared to the interest charged, but I want the flexibility to pay the mortgage down if interest rates start to rise and it looks less in my favour.

Some of it is the money I borrowed from a credit card at zero percent for 2 years with a 1% fee. I'm seeing how long I can roll that along, just because I can.

I have a very good pension plan, but will probably will start investing fairly soon, but I want a good chunk of ready cash because we're quite likely to need a new roof, windows and/or move house in the next few years, plus we're both coming up to 50 and we bloody need and deserve a very good holiday.

OublietteBravo · 12/03/2021 19:23

@Lockandtees - why would anyone routinely mention how diversified their investments are on a thread specifically about premium bonds? In fact why would they mention their other investments at all?

Exactly. And exactly the point I was making!

Chewbecca · 13/03/2021 17:28

Yep, I have many other investments but only talk about the return on my PBs on this thread.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/03/2021 22:09

First month with bonds ready for the draw, app downloaded and everything crossed Grin

Theforest · 27/03/2021 10:25

I might put some savings in premium bonds. Interest rates are so low.
What is the notice period like to withdraw the money?

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2021 14:04

No notice period. Takes a few days to get to account
